OK, so Alice knows. Now it appears that Bella is about to reunite with Edward. That's great and all, but why oh why didn't Bella attempt to find him after she became a vampire? I would really like to see a plausible reason for that. I get that she thought he didn't want her anymore, but couldn't she have hunted him down and said "now that I'm a vampire too, do you still feel that way?" I mean really. Couldn't she?
Author's Response: Interesting.... I suppose she could have... BUT...
She's a teenager, and was dumped... by a GOD, and we all know how inferior she already felt so = she believed him wholeheartedly that day in the woods.
My only reason for setting the plot 40 years in the future was to give Bella sufficient time to adjust to vampirism and not be a total spaz when she does run into Edward and the Cullens again. I wanted her on completely even footing. However, the only sure thing in my mind when forming this plot was the fact that no time would change what Bella truly felt in her heart, that Edward had moved on. It would have been demoralizing and pathetic to go back and be like, "how bout now?" Sure she ached for him and Alice and the others she considered her family, but she wasn't about to give Edward the satisfaction of knowing how bad she was hurting, nor did she want to do that to herself... not to mention her absurd loyalty to their "deal."
It all just seemed congruent with SM's characters. But there are so many plot options out there, so many ways to play with these people... The whole reason I am writing this is because I read a post-NM story where Edward was there AS she was transofrming and was pissed. I thought, "no way, I wanna see Eddie caught off gaurd, stumbling and staggard and pissed off and in awe..." and so shallyou if you keep reading... ;)
