Beautiful prose, and an excellent job at making the story more angsty, thus infineitely more believable. Shame that Edward had to die in the end, though.
Author's Response: Thank you! It means so much to have my style complimented. I have so much empathy for authors now; this is really hard to do. And I agree, it really sucked that Edward had to die. I wish Bella hadn't been so impulsive and short-sighted.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review!

Oh no. Thats so sad. It actually made me cry :(
Author's Response: Hi there, thank you for reading, and for taking the time to review.
You think *you* were crying? I was BAWLING whilst writing the ending. "Hands And Arrows" by Sometree, "Love Is A Losing Game" by Amy Wineshouse, "Sun and Water" by Absent Elk were just a few of the songs on my writing playlist... I will post it soon.
Thanks again, I know it's a sad ending, and really hard to read, but I appreciate you keeping an open mind.

Powerful. Incredible.
Not every story has a HEA, nor should they. The Bella portrayed here is pure canon - selfish, manipulative, horny and not above using someone (i.e., flirting with Jake on the beach at La Push to glean info on the Cullens from him, leaving him to believe she's interested in him, not Edward) to achieve her means.
What struck me particularly was the Volteri's equating their vampireness with religion: The chalice with Bella's human blood was an example that stuck in my mind after reading this, as the Volteri considered themselves almost God-like, transcendant above humans.
As for the reviewer who gave us a geography lesson, it's called creative license; SM used iit in spades, and noone seems to question her. There are plenty of geographical errors in her work, not to mention syntax, grammar, etc.
Besides, if Reagan rewrote it, then she might as well write Twilight, shouldn't she?
Author's Response: Wow, thanks for the kind review!
I think you and I agree; although in some ways Bella was really mature for a teenager (responsibly cleaning the house, cooking meals, doing laundry, finishing her homework, holding down a job), she was immature in that she was obsessed with becoming a vampire, freaked out constantly about getting older, didn't want to wear an engagement ring. She couldn't see beyond what she wanted; Edward to make her a vampire.
The Volturi always had a religious connotation; they were the Law unto themselves, and did consider themselves as better than humans. Don't we think of ourselves as better than the animals we raise for food?

Well written, but I could have done without it. Too sad and nasty. Ugh.
(I like my fan fiction to be angsty but to have an happy ending. Otherwise I resort to the classics)
By the way, there are no airports near Volterra. It is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Tuscany. You have to fly to Florence and then you have some 2 hours of car - bus ride. No highway, even. So you might want to amend it.
Author's Response: Hi there, thank you for reading, and for taking the time to review.
In writing the outline for this story, I imagined how Bella would feel if Edward refused to change her; would she resort to drastic measures? What options would she have? If she went to the Volturi, wouldn't Edward pay the price? How horrible would it be if she was made into a vampire, but Edward was destroyed, and she had to live for eternity without him, knowing that she was the cause of his destruction? It seemed so sad, so 'star-crossed lovers' to me, and I had to explore the idea.
I did a good bit of research on flights, etc. In fact, the flight numbers I used are actual United flights from Seattle to Frankfurt. As far as the location of Voterra in relation to the airport, you may have missed this line:

I believe that this was sufficient to relate the distance of the drive, since it didn't seem necesary to the story for me to get into the minutiae; it's so minor a detail.
Thanks again for reading, and for your review!
