I'm the first person to say that the graphic novel and the movie of 30 Days had their share of problems.  THis though, has no problems.  It's by far the best example of 30 Days of Night writing that I've ever seen.

There is never a dull moment.  It's good to see a writer than can give Bella the respect she deserves.  What you do with her is amazing.  She's not just one thing, she's many things, she's greiving, she's broken, she's strong, she's brittle, the list just goes on.

I loved the turning of John, that's one of the best moments from 30 Days.  You adapted it wonderfully here.  When Bella went for the ax, my admiration of her increased tenfold without having to suspend disbelief one bit.  That was one of my favorite head chopping scenes.

It's so easy to feel what Bella is feeling on her rollercoaster ride of emotions.  Because people in real life seldom feel a single emotion for long.

The Edward voice is back, that was one of the coolest things I remember from the books.  Even cooler though was the arrival of Beau, him and his drill was the best thing in the movie.  A giant stone drill, that works out wonderfull with these type of vampires.

Another great thing that you did was include the bald guy.  He's every bit as freaky was he was in the movie.  That guy rocked without doubt.  I can't wait to see Marlow in this.

Again, perfect job of blending two things that are kind of hard to blend.  Bella was great, but so was Eben and Stella.  Great characterization and reactions from all of them.  I can only wonder what Stella will think of Bella's story.

Yay! Bring on the guts and gore! About how many more chapters will it be till the 30 days of night are over?

Author's Response:

I have much of the story written already, so I believe there are about ten more chapters in Barrow before I branch off into another subplot.  Keep reading and thanks for reviewing!

You do such an excellent job with this.  I love how you just paint an atmosphere of despair and doom.  Unlike the guys in the graphic novel, they can't even count on the UV lights and their guns.  Presumably, a few vampires will be killed.

I have to say that in the movie I loved that truck flipping scene.  In the story, it really comes across as great.

More than ever though, I like the different types of fear that Bella is feeling.  First, there's that "make things clear" fear.  Then there's paralyzing, "I can't do a thing" fear.  It makes all for a very scary but very emotional atmosphere.

I like how Bella is trying, even during these times, not to remember Edward.

PS: Will you do a vampire POV at some point?

I'm truly with the ability you have to merge these two very different universes together.  I mean, Twilight and 30 Days are just so different in terms of style, theme, substance and especially the vampires.  But I see you've gone in here and taken two very different things and made them work together.

This is why I read crossovers.  In one story, I might enjoy the character development while in another story I might enjoy the mindless action.  With a good crossover, I can get the best of both words.  This story is the best of both worlds.  You take the character importance of Twilight, the heartfelt hurt of it and you've sucessfully combined it with the adrenaline fueled fear and terror of 30 days.

It can't have been easy but you've done it.  I like your choice about the vampires, to make them a mix of the two.  I've read some of your comments.  I'm glad that sunlight is a non-issue.  You should have Bella's knowledge of vampires clash with the townspeople's view of vampires.  Stakes, UV light and all that.

Your description of the stranger was great, it was like he was some personification of decay and rot.  He was the perfect harbinger of death.  In my mind I compare him to a figure in an opera, a demon announcing the coming apocalypse.  Because even though he's human, he's positively inhuman at the same time.  The detail with the spit was also great.

I like how you brought in Bella's intolerance for blood to play.  That, among many other things makes her plight unique and cool to read about.  She's badly broken, got a hole in her heart and you capture it perfectly.

I have a question, do the vampires in this story have powers and such?  I applaud that you're not going to make them invulnerable.  Where would the fun be in that?

Oooooooo. Action. Live and all. Now they're all gonna start needing the info we got. Is that one asshole still gonna kill his family just so they dont get killed?

Reviewer: Daisysus (Signed) · Date: June 26, 2009 12:49 PM · On: The First Night

Wow, I love this story.  I swear, every time I see that it's been updated, I get all excited.

I thought of watching the movie, but then I decided not to.  This way, I can still be surprised.

Just one question, though.  Are the Cullens gonna be in this story, or is it just Bella??

Author's Response:

The Cullens will be in this story eventually.  When the events in Barrow have all played out, I plan to have a significant number of chapters dealing with just Bella and the Cullens and how they manage to deal with the issues that have come up between them as a result of Edward's leaving and the things that happened in Barrow.  Thanks so much for reviewing!

We're getting there. Nice chapter.
