Wow - already I'm so hooked on this story! How is it possible for me to be so emotionally attached to Marie already? Also, I really appreciate the background history of Marie's abusive relationship with her husband. You told it in such a way that it's built up slowly instead of an abrupt and sudden change. James did it once and saw that he could do it again. That is the turning point. And then it escalated. It all seemed so realistic.
