Reviews For Letters to a Swan

Ahhhh, and the plot thickens...I want to know it all NOW!!  Jasper is great in this...and all of them are in it together, huh?  Alice, Emmett, and Jasper are all trying to help Bella...and Edward.  Will we ever find out why?  I like the way that you reveal things through Bella's flashbacks and how raw things are coming out because she has held everything in for so long...another this I am waiting for the why on!  :)

Author's Response:

I know! I know!!!  haha, I am holding all that info hostage!

Maybe!!  Or maybe ALL of them are clueless!  In the next few chapters I'm writing right now a lot of stuff is spilling out!

Thanks!!!

Here comes the possesive side of Edward already!  Why do we love that?!

Also, Emmett is my favorite character because he is just so damned nice and funny and adorable.  I can picture him sitting on the floor feeding his "team" of kittens, giving them all advice on various sports.  Well done!

And what does this letter bring?

Author's Response:

I have no idea why we love the possesiveness!!!  Haha, I'm such a hypocrite, all I Am Woman! Hear Me Roar! and then I swoon when Edward goes all Mine!  haha

Thank you!  I really couldn't help myself.  Adorible Emmett was just too tempting!

I have always loved Poe (Alone and the Pit and the Pendulum are my favs) and think it is great when authors use literature in their own work...I hope it forces folks to read more...I know it does for me.

I am curious to see how Bella takes to having "friends" and the potential attention they will bring her.  I love that she uses the letter as an excuse to not face whatever she is avoiding in la push.  Something had to kick her in the ass!  But what will she have to face now that her walls aren't as solid?

I also love the possesiveness Bella has with the books at the library.  Great trait and feelings showed there.  :)

Author's Response:

Hey!!!  The Pit and the Pendulum!!!  I love that one.  It is sooooo freaky.  Can you even imagine being in that situation.

Hahaha, someone had to kick her into start!  I freak out the same way with books.  I'm kind of mean when it comes to them!!

Thanks!

Second read through and I wanted to try reviewing this time around...I powered through the first time. :)

The first read, I was confused by the principal's reaction to the letters (and I am lame and stubborn and didn't re-read right then!), but I am reading a bit slower this time around and I am not confused.  I am enjoying Carlisle and his patience with Bella, although I don't know if normal councelors are that tolerant, but it is Carlisle.  Curious about all the baggage that Bella is hiding from (mom, la push, no friends) and I really want to know who is sending the letters!  I have my suspisions...:)

I liked the story the first read through but I think I am really going to enjoy it a lot more this read (as I usually do with books I enjoy).  Thanks and keep up the good work :)

Author's Response:

That's so sweet of you to re-read it and review!!!

Truthfully, I understand your confusion.  I just talked it over with a few people and the principal seemed necessary (no matter how stupid it sounded) cause Bella's not stupid enough to follow the instructions of a complete unknown stranger.

Thank you!!!  Love your review!

I love the story too!!! Please, keep on writing it!!!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  I plan on it! lol

I LOVE THE STORY.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST OF IT.  AND I LIKE THAT YOU GAVE US SOME DETAILS OF WHAT BELLA WENT THROUGH.  ALSO LIKED THE FACT THAT YOU ANSWERED QUESTIONS WILL ADDING MORE QUESTIONS.  I HOPE YOU CONTUINE AND SOON.

Author's Response:

Haha, if all uppercase letters indicates shouting for emphasis and excitement then YAY, I'M SOOOOOO GLAD YOU LIKED IT AND ARE HAPPY WITH SOME ANSWERS....AND MORE QUESTIONS!!!!!! lol thank you very much!!!

I am LOVING this story.  you have great little details that really make you feel the moment.  the kittens were adorable, and i loved their names.  my favorite line so far was in the last chapter, but i forgot to review... about her feeling at home at the library, and how there should be a welcome mat and a key on the eave for her.  That detail really made me feel that sense of home...

great job, can't wait to see what's in the next letter!

Author's Response:

Thank you again1!!  Kittens are so cure!  I feel the same way about the library being my own so it was easy to write that line;p  Can't wait to hear more from you!

Reviewer: marvelousmarbles (Signed) · Date: June 03, 2009 07:02 AM · On: Sky-blue Envelope

verrry intriguiiiiing.  interesting Bella.  Love Dr. Cullen!  Weird that the principal would know about the note... wonder what's up with that?

Author's Response:

Thank you!!!  (lol, I loved saying intriguiiiing out loud the way you wrote it!)  I guess you'll have to keep reading to figure that out!!

Reviewer: m81170 (Signed) · Date: May 28, 2009 06:50 AM · On: Let It Pour

I've started writing and re-writing this review for 15 minutes and nothing is coming out right so I'm just going to write this review and you can take it as you will.

I know I really have no right to say this but I am really proud of you for this chapter. As I was reading it, I had this smug, stupid, all-knowing smirk on my face because I KNEW you could do it. I mean this was (so far) the epitome of the fic and just to see how far you have come since the beginning of the fic (which was a little on the rough side) is just... unexplainable.

I mean, I felt that in my bones! Starting with Edward. He is one of my favorite Edward's I have ever read. Which is actually kind of funny, because besides canon Edward, I really like Badboy Edward and loves to sex Bella up Edward. This Edward is so innocent and sweet and slightly awkward and it just endears him to me all the more. And yet he's compassionate and intense and moving. He's a quality guy and I love how he handles Bella. You were able to really portray all those aspects in his character just by writing is reaction to his own house as embarrassment and showing how different he is from everyone else by not being a peacock. And you can tell he wished Bella was comfortable as well, which was just... sweet.

While Bella was experiencing all her mood swings, the fact that he stood by and took it all in stride was just incredible. I couldn't imagine being a teenage boy and watching the girl I had brought to my home have some type of episode and sing the Sound of Music while covering her ears, I mean, how do you even react to that?

My favorite part of Edward's character in the chapter was the book. Everything about the book was fantastic- from the dandelion to his amazing confession after. The dude is brave as hell to admit what he did to her with how she gives him such mixed signals. And I love how he didn't back down from her when she got defensive about the story.

And Edward in the woods was just... *sigh* supportive and passionate and incredible. I love how Bella read the emotion from Edward's face and how he seemed so pained about the situation. I wasn't Bella when she was confessing, I was Edward watching her fall apart.

Now Bella- poor Bella. She was a mess in this chapter (in a good way). I'm glad you included the flashback with the thunderstorm. I can't really describe it but it just added something... spooky, to the whole situation. She was absolutely bonkers for envisioning her mother and it almost seemed like a hallucination. Again, Edward was my favorite part of all that- his reaction to her- but he only works as a counterpart to what Bella is feeling.

LovedLovedLOVED Bella's reaction to the book. I loved their whole little exchange when she was trying to get the book. That sexual tension was just HOT! It’s interesting because whenever someone puts in song lyrics or excerpts from books I don’t read them, maybe I skim a little but I felt compelled to really read Annabelle Lee. And it worked so well with the situation and the story. That was just- incredible.

The infamous chase scene- I was not expecting Bella to actually find a meadow with lilac trees. That was amazing! The symbolism of that spot- it just added such depth to the scene (a lot of stuff did that for this chapter- Sound of Music, the book, and the trees). When Edward was calling for Bella- this weird sensation just flushed through me, I’m not even sure what it was but it was incredible.

Again, I loved E/B’s whole exchange- how he kept pushing and she kept pushing back. They both knew she was playing and I love how they are on the same wavelength. However, I feel that Edward has not shared enough of his past with Bella for him to expect that Bella would just open up to him. He’s been there for her, heck he’s loved her, but what has he really done or exposed of himself that would make her trust him with that? I still liked that he did it though- he went as far as yelling at her and I imagine it probably felt nice to get his frustrations out a bit.

I did enjoy the confession part but not as much as the build-up to it. Sometimes it did seem a little unnatural and stilted- like that is how Bella would write it instead of how she would speak it out loud or if she was reading from a very dramatic monologue.

“Maybe it was because I wanted him to know her as a beautiful woman who, though she hurt me beyond explanation, also made me into the buried soul I now was.” It was a little weird for me when you started going into this part because I was so into the rest of the story. It kind of seemed like the past of happy times was a step backward or a step below- does that make sense?

Still, as far as confessions go in fanfiction this is still one of my favorites. I can’t imagine it was easy to write and you handled everything just fine.

“The tree caught me and shed pink tears…” I mean really, stuff like this was just peppered through out the whole chapters. No one writes like this anymore! Incredible!

THE KISS!!! Oh deary, how glad I am that you cockblocked us for so long! It was definitely worth it to wait until this moment for them to finally make out! I don’t know how else to describe my reaction except AHHHHHH!!!! I love how Edward worshipped her, how you said he looked at her as if she were heaven. DAMN GIRL! I know this is all human but that is some canon shit right there! Perfect!

“Bella, Bella, Bella,” he serenaded my skin.”

That was one of the single best kiss scenes ever- just incredible (I’m really running out of adjectives…)

*Sighs in contentment*

Ok, so a few other random notes. I did a happy dance when Bella said she had never really kissed a boy before. I had been worried about what the extent of her relationship with Jacob was and I’m glad to know she didn’t give it up to the bastard.

Before reading this chapter I had changed my mind that it wasn’t Edward because it seemed almost too obvious, but then when you took us inside the how and had Bella look at his pictures I changed my mind again. I’m guessing he’s adopted (where’s his baby pictures?) and in the first letter I remember it saying something along the lines of, “I’ve been there before.” Which makes me think that Edward has been there before.

Lastly, I adore you and your story. This was fantastic. I just spent an hour reviewing it and re-reading it and so I’m really not just saying it was good- it was incredible.

Great job my bitch, and please update soon!

-m

Author's Response:

Let me just start out with, um, 1.Damn, I love you! 2.Bitch for life!

Heck, girl, be proud of me!  Every bitch needs some props from her...pimp....(really, pimp is the only word in my sad vocab that I can come up with!) I love it because that's really one of the main reasons for writing.  To improve!

I love badboy Edward myself but it didn't feel right.  It felt like it would be too stereotypical in this fic. (a troubled boy with a troubled girl thing) I just couldn't help it and also, it contrasts nicely with Jacob (who will be explained a little more later) who was basically the "oh, I'm a class A bad ass" type.  Bella doesn't need more of that.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that Bella's well....um.....kinda nuts.  But you have to hit rock bottom to start climbing back up.  If I had seen her doing that, I would have been all, "Okay, so you wanna watch Sound of Music. No big deal. I'll get the DVD." lol Again, can't say anything but he kinda gets it. (even though I had fun writing about his scared shitless expression)

THe book.  Just kind of a symbol for how he'll stand up for her.  And the whole Edgar Allen Poe? It's like a marking point.  They started there and now they're at their first real speed bump.

I love how you saw it from Edward's perspective because silently, I had him in the back of every thought through out that chapter.  Can you imagine watching someone you love fall apart and knowing that the best thing for you to do is let them drain themself of the poision...let them do this on their own.

Yeah, I was worried about the flashback but thought it was kind of necessary because 1.the spooky thing as you said...it just kind of sets the mood "off" like a good "off" lol 2.to me it was kind of like the image of Bella in a room slowly filling up with water. Before all of this she was buried and "safe" in her numb shell.  Then Edward and the letters show up and that room slowly begins to fill.  The "crazy scene" is kind of like the water brimming at the top and she's starting to panic, she knows that something's gotta crack soon. THe pressure is mounting then of course, the book happens and the water just engulfs her and she breaks (resulting in the confession).

Thank you.  I wanted to get one more just "ARRGG, fuckin kiss him already" moment in there before the actual kiss.;p  I usually don't read them either but I just felt that they fit with the whole death of a loved one theme.  And there's the fact that she actually says the second stanza this time (just a little glimmer of hope that she can move on)

I almost didn't do the chase but it was too symbolic to pass up. Bella running.  Edward chasing. And then I knew that the meadow would probably sneak its way into the fic somehow so why not do something unusual.  Introduce it as a place of hurt and pain and tears.  People always have Bella and Edward stumble upon it or have Edward show it to her in a happy moment.  This just seemed kind of symbolic and kick ass lol. His voice calling for her kind of spooked me.  I kept imagining this echoing voice and no body in sight to put it to...almost as if the wind was talking.  And it was also such a conflictin emotion for her.  On one hand she's frustrated as hell. It's the side just saying, "Give in, Edward. Prove me right, already." and then there's the side that she wants to push down though she can't, the side that realizes that he's running after her.  He's fighting for her.

I LOVE that you brought that up.  I mean, really.  No one else has and you just gave me a basis for a really long conversation in one of the chapters lol.  I actually didn't think of it that way.  It's actually a really profound thought.  What better way to show someone that they can trust you then by trusting them first.  Well, Bella's got a lot to reveal.

You know, I completely agree with you on the confession.  I was really in between a rock and a hard place with it.  I could 1.have her tell it like a normal person would.  Though it would be more realistic, I also wanted to have the reader see her as the girl in Phoenix, to see it as if it was just as real as the present meadow scene.  Or I could 2.throw realism out the window and pretend that Bella is the next Shakespeare lol just so that the reader could personally feel her pain.  For later "confessions" (even if they are small or whatever) I'm going to try a mix of the two.

Yeah, the only reason I actually needed the "happy days" scenerio was to show Bella's conflicting emotions.  One minute all she can remember is that one day in which she simply hated.  Hated her mother. Hated herself.  Then the next minute something reminds her of happier days and love.  How the love is the cause of the hate (yeah, I know that sounds crazy lol) The reason she's so full of hate is because she misses the love.  There had to be something for her to lose in the first place.  Also, I needed something to explain the dandelions.  I see how you would be confused though....can I just blame it on Bella's crazy and bipolar brain?! lol

Thank you for mentioning that line.  I was actually really stuck up over that linelol I just liked it (I love how you and I are on the same wavelength with all this)

Haha, (doing a little jig of happiness and laughing insanely even though it's only coming out as haha on paper) Thank Mother of Mary, that you liked it!  I had to throw in the original favorite....give him some props!  You're running out of adjectives and I'm running out of exclamations (Oh, My God, Yeah, Squeak, Thank GOd, Holy Mother of Toast...yeah, I've at least said them all and a few more in my head throughout this whole review)

I did not want to go all orthodox fanfic on you and have Jacob steal Bella's virginity like the evil villian in some early 20th century silent film lol. Besides, could I really waste her first kiss on that?!? Then I'd actually have to spend a little of the kiss comparing it to Jacob's!  His name belongs nowhere near the last bit of this chapter.

aaaaahhhh....oh, shit!  you already know the rest of my normal line. "you might be right but then again...yada yada yada"
lol but that doesn't mean that I don't want to hear your opinion.  I just felt like responding different this time ;p

Really, I adore you more.  You challange me.  You really make me think and I want to kiss you for that (or better yet, send Edward to do the job for me)!! This review, this collosal, winner of best EVER review is why I Kerrybell, am you, my darling's BITCH!!  B. I. T. C. H.

That was lovely.  Are you planning on continuing?  If not, this is a beautiful stopping point, even if the ellipses at the end could possibly kill me with suspense.

I love how you write, and this really does read like 13 Blue Envelopes, even though it's its own separate story.

So, my thought on who's writing the Dear Bella letters is that it's either Carlisle or Esme (unless she's dead?  I don't think she's dead, but I'm not good at reading between the lines)  I am fairly sure it's a Cullen though.

How was that for my first review on Twilighted?

Author's Response:

Of course!!! lol  I wouldn't want the possiblility of killing you...so I think I'll continue for that reason alonelol.

THank you sooo much.  I loved that book.  It made me want to travel Europe so freakin bad.

Don't worry, Esme's not dead.  Even though you could easily think that because I havn't exactly technically implied that she's alive either.  You might be right!!

Loved your first review and glad that it was for me!!

Reviewer: swan_song (Signed) · Date: May 27, 2009 05:17 PM · On: Let It Pour

Finally caught up! Just in time to read your response to my original quick review and admonition!

First off: breathe! It's ok. I can tell by your writing that you're not ignorant or mean spirited! I mainly pointed it out because I was pretty sure you *didn't* mean it that way. I'm not a Muslim, but I do live in an extremely multi-cultural city (Toronto), and maybe that makes me more sensitive. However, I'm not offended, especially after reading your heart felt response. Notice how I didn't call you a racist? That's because I was pretty sure you weren't, and that is a strong judgement to throw on someone! So don't beat yourself up anymore ok? Like you said, no one else noticed.

Anyhoo! The story! It's pretty great. It's more angsty than I usually go for, but you wrap it up in a lot of sweetness. It's also sort of written like a mystery, almost noir! I find that intriguing! I hope there is some back story about why Edward is drawn to Bella. His patience is amazing, but there must be a reason he is being her knight in shining armour! The scene in the lilac meadow was just so viceral, I could easily picture it and it made me just sigh with the passion of that kiss. It doesn't hurt that the lilacs are currently blooming and the fragrant air really does lend itself to kissing, or reading about kissing, hehe! I tell you what, it's stories like yours that really help me right now. Long distance relationship. Nuff said!

Keep writing hun. You've just received my longest review ever! And a rating of 10 to boot!

Author's Response:

*breathing...breathing* lol Okay, I'm good now.  It was just that at the time I saw it I was so completely shocked that I just wrote and wrote and wrote until I couldn't write anymore.  Oh, no, you were very, very kind to me.  I just wanted to make sure you weren't thinking that lol.  Let's just call it at the fact that I FREAKIN' WIG OUT sometimes tehe

Thank you so much.  lol  Don't worry though, the angst isn't going to get TOO bad.  Bella isn't going to start like cutting herself or anything.  It really won't get much worse than it already is.  I try to alternate with chapters between fluff and angst...fluff and angst.  Yep, Edward is kind patience lol but there is a reason ;p

I love me some lilacs!  They really did set the mood for me.  YES, I helped someone's relationship lol Send them some lilacs or something (okay, so maybe I don't always give the BEST adivice)

LOVE, love, love this review....helped me to breathe again...obviously ;)

I like it, I'm intrigued.  If I found a letter like that and the principal knew about it I'd go mental!  I kinda know where Bella's coming from except I do have friends, I just don't really like going out with them, and I focus so much on the future that I miss the present.  I can relate.  Maybe this can help me out lol.

<3

Author's Response:

Yeah, um, I'd fucking loose my mind if MY principal knew about it....haha you'd understand if you knew my principal! lol  Really, though, the letter writer wasn't exactly thinking along that line!

I can relate too (well, obviously kerry...you wrote it!)  I don't "go out" with friends much either.  It's also kind of stressful to me because you always have to put up a mask!

THank you sooo much!

Thank you so much for your reviews and for sticking with it.  I completely understand that you think its happening fast but let me say that.  1.they are NOT going to jump into bed anytime soon..I swear that   2.It's not a "short" story but really, I couldn't find a way to make it into like 40 chapters so I agree that it's moving a little fast but it was kind of needed  3.It's really a much deeper connection than you think.  I for one (though I understand if you don't) believe that people can be connected that fast if it's meant to be.  Edward's got some problems too that you'll find out later that will lend to my reasoning

THank you again.  I love that you like my style (and ps-DAMN IT we all wish he would kiss us!!! :)
