Oh no!! They have to leave her? For possibly a YEAR? This is going to be so painful for both of them. Can't Edward stay behind and silently watch over her, sneaking in when he can? He's a vampire, he can elude these PIs.
If he does leave, please let it be on truthful terms--no deception like NM. Bella deserves the truth from Edward, to know that he will return the minute her part in the trial is finished.

I actually thought about letting Edward stay, or at least sneak back when writing this. I just couldn't do it. I hope you will forgive me once you see how it plays out.

Yeah, this chapter made me sad, too, and mad. Child pornographers and child molesters are so often authority figures and they start in subtle ways with kids, and they certainly don't stop at one, so I thought you did a good job of portraying those aspects of Peter's M.O., and also it is very realistic for Bella to think, well if this authority figure says it's OK, it must be.
I don't fully understand the case, though--is Bella pursuing a civil suit against Peter? Because a crime victim wouldn't have a lawyer, and law firms don't prosecute people, only prosecutors do that.
I really enjoy this fic, can't wait for more.
Author's Response: No, it's not a civil suit. I just let my law/courtroom ignorance flap in the wind, didn't I. I thought of it more as her giving deposition and being a witness for the prosecution. Does that angle work? Please correct me if I am wrong!

Author's Response: People do stupid things when they fancy themselves in love with a person. You must also remember that he built up this "relationship" with Bella on lies. He is an authority figure that has been placed in her life as someone she can trust. She was blinded, but not stupid. She was in love with Peter at the time, but it was love based on a lie.
Now that she is outside of that experience (hind-sight), she can see the falseness of that "love". Now she sees what she is developing with Edward, and their relationship is based on truths...even the hard ones.
Love, is indeed, a cruel mistress.

This is a really interesting story. Addictive even. I've been watching out for this, and planning to read just the latest chapter, but i always end up re-reading the entire fic. One small point though, I'd be interested to hear more of the Cullens POV about Edward's incubus side. Particularly Jasper. How does Edward cope with being in such close quarters with women, when Jasper still struggles?

Author's Response: I'm glad you appreciate that. Girl has a thing for slutty men! Seriously, though. Peter is a million times worse. Edward never makes any promises. It is what it is. Peter feigns love, which I think is the worst kind of sin.
