I'd definitely vote for the first ending - this one was too painful to read, and I'm one for the certain HEA type endings rather than one that is more dubious.
That being said, I just wanted to leave a final comment for your story as a whole - WOW! I haven't been this hooked on a fanfic in a long while, and I thank you for sharing it with us! Now, off to check out the sequel...lol.

I know this story has been posted for a long time now, so you've probably already been asked this question; however, I'm going to ask it anyway. Why doesn't Jasper just tell Alice to ask Bella a question that Bella could answer but Jasper could not? Since Jasper kept himself at a distance from Bella, there had to be lots of times when Alice and Bella were together and he was not (and you know Rosalie wouldn't be able to help him cheat since she did her best to stay well away from "the human" prior to the birthday party). So, she could simply ask a question that Jasper couldn't possibly know, and when he provided the correct response, he'd have the proof.

Thank you so much for having Esme point out to Rosalie the reality of her situation!!! I can't count the number of times I've chewed Miss Bitterness out for blaming Carlisle for changing her and resenting Bella because she is human. I've wanted to knock her upside the head and say, "Your human life was over! Period!!! No matter what choice Carlisle had made that night - or even if he had offered you the choice - you were never going to find love, get married, and have babies as a human! Your chance at motherhood was taken away, not by Carlisle, but by Royce & company. Blame them - they certainly deserve it - but not Carlisle who had tried to save your life and then chose to turn you to prevent your death... even though, as you stated, you never like him, his wife, or 'brother-in-law.' And, if that is not enough, then just think about what would have happened to Emmett had Carlisle never changed you. There would have been no 'angel' there to save him that day from the bear attack. Would you rather Emmett had died? No? Good, then Get. Over. It. Already!!!"
I know what it is like to want a baby desperately (I had some rather hefty fertility issues myself), and I know what it is like to suffer sexual abuse. But those things do not give someone the right to treat others badly when they are not to blame for any of it.

You handled this part of the story beautifully! The confrontation between the Cullens and the wolves had just the right mix of emotions to make it realistic. Both sides exhibited anger, agression, and hostility; yet, due to the "cool heads" of their leaders - with a bit of help from Jasper, of course - they managed to hash it all out without any actual violence (exluding the nip out of Jacob's ankle ...I am guessing that was Seth, btw. I love little Seth, but Leah really deserved for Jacob to get a good swipe in before Sam called him off, imo).
