Victoria is dead, Bella and Edward are engaged, Jake is imprinted and happy. Everything is perfect, right?

Of course not.

 Alice has a vision that will change everything, and all that the Cullens have ever believed to be true about their lives and their world will come crashing down. And this time, they may not be strong enough to fix this.

A one-shot prequel (of sorts) to What Dreams May Come.

This story owes everything to “No regrets” by Withthevampsofcourse. There have been many versions of the first night on Isle Esme, but hers is the one that intrigued me most. It is dark, exciting and…. believable. Please read it if you haven’t. The point is that during their passionate lovemaking Edward loses it and bites Bella on the inner tight. It is a small bite, and almost immediately he sucks the venom and seals the wound. Bella is so far gone in pleasure that he thinks she never even realized what he had done. I think that the bite, more than just bruises, explain why the morning after Edward is horrified and says “no more”. Unfortunately, the author never wrote a follow up, to my frustration, because I hoped to learn why Edward eventually relented and was able to make love to Bella without hurting her. Surely some black lace and a “please” would not have sufficed, in this case. Since no other explanation is forthcoming, I try to give my own. It is rather OOC, while afterwards the story could continue exactly in the way Stephenie Meyer wrote it.

My perception of what might have been going through Edwards head as Bella awoke as a vampire.

This story begins after the conclusion of Eclipse.  Newly engaged, Bella and Edward explore the physical and romantic boundaries of their relationship.  Together they will embark on a new level of intimacy neither of them has experienced before. 

This story can stand alone, but I would like it to become part of a series open to other authors. The title of the series would be “Growth” and should address moments of Edward’s growth, from teenager angst to adulthood. This first story is called “A man at last” and is written in Carlisle's POV. It describes the last moment of growth, at the end of Breaking Dawn, recalling briefly what the other steps were.

Bella comes into her room, fresh from the shower, wrapped in only a towel, to find Edward lounging on her bed instead of out hunting like he's supposed to be.  Slightly OOC Edward, but not too much.

I know that many people felt let down by the fight scene and ending to breaking dawn.  I was one of these readers.  I decide to write my own version.  I think it is a good balance between the happy ending that so many wanted, but the action that was needed.  When I posted this intitally I was only considering a one-shot fight scene.  Once I became aware of the opportunity, I decided to see where else the story might take me...

“This is disturbing indeed,” Marcus stated to no one in particular.  “We have little time to prepare our defenses…  We need to flee.  The only reason you won the last battle is because they did not realize your power.  They will not make the same mistake.  We must find refuge until we can develop a better plan.”
