Hello:

I'm married to the man I love more than life itself, mother to our 3 daughters ages 6-13. I'm a hopeless romantic, love deep characters and the unexpected. My favorite book series & movie franchise is the twilight saga and I'm not embarrassed about that either! So what if I'm 35? It's wonferful no matter what your age! I am a survivor & find both reading and writing fanfiction stories about being a survivor therapeutic, a way to feel less alone and help others understand the pain, the journey, the weakness and the strength involved.  I despise stories that gloss over or ignore completely how deep and far reaching the effects of abuse/assault/rape & how it effects every part of your life and effects those around you. I love stories that DO depict this well

Thoughts on twilight itself:

I love the theme of refusing to let what you are or your circumstances dictate who you are or how you have to live. I love the how the author honesty depicts everyone's faults. It's easy as readers & even more so as both a survivor & a mother of daughters to pick apart a characters flaws, poor choices, actions and personality traits & as a mother my instinct is to point out things these characters that have done that in real life are red flags but then I remind myself that it's not only fiction but fantasy. Edward does act stalkerish and controlling but it is different then real life. If you were immortal and nearly invincible and the one you love was human, with all the dangers for injury & death, I can be positive I would be hesitant to leave my love unprotected. Jacob on the other hand always bothered me with his possessiveness, manipulation and that kiss!! He didn't even realize she was fighting him and took it as passion, I read that and thought "well isn't he the little rapist in training!" Now I have sat down with my daughters and discussed these personality traits, actions and choices in depth... The good and the bad, and pointed out these red flags to them but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have been included in the stories. Everyone has bad traits & makes bad choices, most of the choices and traits in this story needed to be there as part of the storyline but more importantly as part of what makes the character tick, who they are both good and bad and what defining experiences caused them to be part of who they are.
