Edward Cullen began life in the highlands of pre-medieval Scotland.  He should have died there, revered as the warrior-king he was.  He didn't.  In the aftermath of a battle against Celtic invaders his life is forever altered; he is murdered and transformed. He struggles to come to terms with his new life over the centuries despite finding meaning in his family, his studies, and his music.  Just as the tedium begins to destroy the tenuous foundations of the life he has built, the arrival of a familiar woman disrupts everything.
