Summary:  You know those fics where Edward doesn't come back and Bella forgets about him and five seconds later she's in bed with Jacob and none of it makes any damn sense?
Yeah, this isn't one of them.
This story picks up from the moment in New Moon when Jacob has driven Bella home after the cliff diving incident, right before he catches the scent of Alice. Only in this telling, Alice wasn't looking, so there's no sudden appearance at Bella's house, no Rosalie calling Edward and sending him on a suicidal mission to Volterra, and no reason for Bella to do anything but believe that Edward didn't love her anymore. This is simply a story of what might have happened if everyone stayed mostly in character and Edward's return was delayed. Yes, delayed. Because we all know that he was "this close" to coming back on his own anyhow.
So what would have happened if Bella had tried to move on with her life? Would she have found happiness with Jacob? And would Edward be too late?

Great story. I just started reading it today and I loved it immediatly. I love the way you alternate between Bella's past and Edwards present. Its a refreshing way of doing alternating POVs rather than just going back and forth between characters and simply retelling the same events from diffeternt POVs. Title: Chapter 22: Chapter 22-Anniversary Performances
This is by far the BEST fanfic to use music I have ever read! You are an amazing writer. I love the way you put this story together and the songs to really bring a lot of emotion into it all. Isnt there an award for this sort of fiction? Where would I vote for that?

Alice’s werewolf blindness never allowed her to see Bella’s cliff diving at La Push, so she and the rest of the Cullens continued to stay away from Forks.
Bella struggles with her changing feelings for Jacob, her pain from Edward’s rejection, and her lingering feelings of love for the vampire who broke her heart and disappeared. Will Jacob and Bella find their way to each other and get their chance at happiness? And when a miserable and heartbroken Edward returns to beg Bella for forgiveness, what will she do?

Title: Chapter 19: Chapter 19 Self Preservation
Wow, is Jacob going to continue to be more of an ass? I'm still hoping things will turn around and Jacob will apologize for his assery and he and Bella can at least be friends again. I really like Jacob, and I hate to see him be so mean and inconsiderate. I like Edward too, though. I just keep holdong on to the promise you made that everyone will be happy in the end. Author's Response: Oh Jacob...he's not handling things very well. This has been building within him for some time now. He knew that if Edward ever came back that he wouldn't stand a chance. I will keep my promise of a happy ending. I do love the character of Jacob and wouldn't do anything malicious to him.

Well done! I like the way you reintroduced Edward here. Its different than all the other fics I've read. Keep up the great work.
Summary: One and a half years. That’s how long it's been since Edward Cullen had banished himself and his family from Isabella Swan’s life, from Forks, from the one place they truly felt at home.

I applaud you in realizing and pulling yourself out of a destructive situation. That takes a lot of strength and courage. The courage to look at your situation, see it for what it is, and work to change it. The strength to stand up and then remain standing even after others continue trying to kick you down. I respect that a lot.
Especially as you are just coming into your 20s and are likely in the process of deciding what direction you want to go in for the rest of your life and trying to prepare for your future. I myself have just recently turned 23. I would say the early 20s are foundation years for the future and you seem to be building a strong foundation.

His question brought Bella back down from cloud nine. She glowered at him. “Bite me.”
A slow, wicked grin etched itself on Edward’s face. “I don’t think you’d want me to,” he whispered darkly, laughing silently at the irony of her insult.

“I know I smelled an open wound, Bella,” Alice said sternly. Behind her, Carlisle and Edward exchanged a look.
Bella scoffed slightly. “Believe me, I felt it,” she told her as she tried to stand.

Edward grinned lopsidedly. “Indeed, we do,” he replied.

“You’re funny,” Edward said dryly. “I bet you wouldn’t be saying the same thing if you were the one who turned up missing.”
“Are you trying to scare me, Mr. Cullen?” Bella asked as she snapped a picture.

"Bella, listen to me,” he tried coaxing her gently.
“No!” Bella shouted, pulling her arms out of his grip. “I never want to see you again. Stay away from me,” she said through clenched teeth, and no matter what she did, she couldn’t stop the tears from falling.

He cupped her face with both hands while looking into her eyes. “If you don’t find me, who’s killed before, whose diet consists of blood, repulsive, how can I look at you in that way?” he asked her softly.

"What kind of man are you?!” Bella pushed and slapped his chest as she raged. She was becoming unhinged.

“Bella, don’t come,” her mother said weakly. “Whatever he says, don’t come—”
“No! That’s not what you’re supposed to say!” a voice exclaimed in the background.
A tear escaped Bella’s eye as she listened to her mother’s cries as he hit her.

Edward nodded. “You’re safe now, Bella,” he told her tenderly as he softly massaged her cheek.

WOW! PAUL IS IMPOSSIBLE! I get that he is jealous of a kind of relationship he cant have. I get that he feels he has been dealt a shitty hand. But COME ON!!! He is so buried in his own personal bs that he has doen't even even understand or even seem to care about the magnitude of his extremely reckless decisions. He learns his actions could have killed not only him, but the entire tribe, and he focuses on jake's concern for bella! wtf! He is a serious danger to everyone. I held out hope that he would at least come to understand the egregious mistake he made after it was more fully explained but NOOOOO. It would b nice to see him get his shit together but I wouldn't blame jake for killing him. I doubt that this is the end of Paul though. It would behove them to get the hell out of dodge first and save the reunions and drama for later. Embry's on my shit list too. What he did was just as bad as Paul if not worse. He knew damn well how serious shit was but he told Paul anyway. They both need to pull their heads out of their asses and grow the hell up. They are letting their emotions run them at the expense of the lives of their entire tribe.

wow I am really looking forward to the next chapter. I cant wait to read Jake, Seth, and Embry's reaction to the Voltori. I hope the Volturi doesn't catch up to them. 30 kilometers just doesn't seem far enough away. Paul's angry phone calls to Jake from his Punto were absolutely HILARIOUS! It took me forever to read through it because I couldn't stop laughing.

Title: Chapter 5: Chapter 5 The Hair of the Dog That Bites
There reactions didnt surprise me much, however there was something that bella did that didnt make much sence to me. If by this point she has figured out her feelings for jake and knows she wants more than friendship, why does she go into this whole speech about what a great FRIEND he is. She really empasized the fat that he is a friend and it seemed sort of counter-productive to her desire to be with jake romantically. I understand that she is, at 1st, hesitant and unsure bout telling him, but why does she work against herself by insiting on the friend status, when she could have just said he is a great person? If she was feeling really brave, she could have added that any girl would be lucky to have him. Author's Response: Oh, girl, you are sooo smart. That's of COURSE what she should have done! But when does our Bella ever come out and say what she should? She can't even tell her dad she loves him! I've never met a more internalizing character in my life. This is one of the things that drives me up the wall about her.
My thoughts when I wrote this were that Bella habitually pushes the friend button with Jake. It's always been her comfort zone. She's thrilled and terrified when she realizes what Jake is to her but she's completely mortified by her drunken attack of him AND she doesn't know what's going on between Jake and Amy. After profusely apologizing and castigating herself, she's trying to step back, regroup and do a little damage control.
(Also, if everything were resolved in 12 hours, it would be a pretty short story. I want to have lots of fun with them for a long time. Hope you don't mind the wait. They'll get it straightened out eventually, I promise! ;)

Another great chapter! I cant say I enjoyed Carmen's POV. Despite understanding the reasoning for all the broken English and choppy sentences, it was hard for me to read. I really enjoyed Embry's POV though. I wouldn't mind reading other pack member's POV's on occasion too. Author's Response: Damn, honey, I'm with you! Carmen's POV was tough to take! However, I find the madder someone is, the more they revert back to their native language and lose the skill they normally have in another language. I think you just can't cuss somebody out as well in any language but your own! I'm glad you liked hearing from Embry. I imagine we'll be hearing from him and some other pack mates as well soon. :)
