Bella is in a car crash that kills her mother and Phil, leaving her with many physical and emotional injuries. Bella is completely devastated by the accident and is no longer the woman she used to be. She returns to Washington to be closer to her father and best friends, trying to find a way to put her life back together.  

Edward has had a "thing" for Bella for ten years, but he never acted on it, and no one ever knew about his feelings for her. He's done a decent job of building a good life, but Bella's return makes him question and re-think everything he thought he knew.

Once these two meet again, he's going to do all he can to finally get his girl, but life and circumstances will make it difficult for him - and Bella will be the biggest challenge of all.

One is not free to make mistakes in a small town like Forks.  The tiniest misstep, the smallest indiscretion is fair game for the gossip mill for years.  And the mistake I had made was certainly not a small one.  I would never be able to escape the shadow of what I had done; and worst of all, absolutely everyone knew about it.

There will be no teen pregnancy or illegal drug use in this story.  Anything else that could realistically happen in a high school setting is a possibility.

Jacob was smitten, thrilled that I cared so much for him, while my husband stood there, betrayal and disappointment written across his face. He turned away from me, and the realization hit me: in all my efforts to right Rosalie’s wrongs, I lost sight of what was actually important. And on top of that, he’d given me ample enough warning. As part of Rob’s training for his new role, he had to learn to fence.  When he and his instructor took a break, I picked up a large sword and without thinking, rolled it around my palm like Obi Wan wielding a light saber. 

Jade, Rob’s instructor, walked over to me.  “That sword is for Katana, a Chinese martial art.  Who taught you how to handle it?” She asked.

“No one,” I replied, as I spun the sword again.

She laughed, assuming I was being facetious.  She picked up another heavy sword and parried.

As I sensed that she was about to lunge, I tossed my sword over her head, dropped onto one hand and vaulted to the side opposite her sword hand; I instantly righted myself, and caught the sword midair.  Before she knew what had happened, my blade was pointed at the back of her neck.

She dropped her sword, turned and bowed, then looked at Rob.  “You didn’t tell me your wife had studied Katana,” she said.

“No, I didn’t,” he replied.  “Bella, may I speak with you?”

When we were out of earshot, he stopped and faced me.  “What was that?” He asked, incredulously.

“I don’t know,” I said, still dazed.

“What do you mean, ‘you don’t know?’  You just forgot to mention that you are an expert at sword fighting?”

“Rob, I have never picked up a sword before in my life!”

“Why are you lying to me about this?” He yelled.

I started to cry.  How could he accuse me of lying?  “I’m not lying!  Why would I?” I yelled at him.

“I don’t know why, but I know what I saw,” he hissed as he stormed away.

Everyone at school knows the infamous, rebellious Bella Swan, even straight-laced Edward. But who is she really, apart from the rumors? Edward finds himself stumbling down a dark path trying to understand her.  But in the end, will it be worth it?
