Mother of two beautiful girls ... the oldest of whom wanted to read the Twilight series. Upon learning it was a vampire love story I told her I'd have to read it first. (not knowing at the time that the author was a mormon) Needless to say I was hooked and am now a closet Twi-hard. I am a professional automation control sales engineer and on the side a writer though I do not write fan fiction. I enjoy reading some of it. I've been married for 13 years to a wonderful man and my best friend.

Fractured Hearts by cfmom Rated: NC-17 starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 2410]
Summary:

We've all turned the pages on the four blank months in New Moon. Edward left Bella in the woods and told her didn't want her anymore; his arrogance expected that she would just move on with her life. What he never expected was that she wouldn't be able to move on any more than he would. An angry Bella is something he couldn't fathom. What he didn't take into account is that Bella believes that true love is worth fighting for, and she's going to fight to keep Edward and her family. The Cullen abandonment hurt her deeply, but she's turned that pain into rage. What will happen when Bella decides to let them know she's not willing to let them walk away and leave her behind? How will they handle one mere human girl that's extremely pissed off, and willing to do whatever takes to bring them back? The saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" has never rang more true. Bella's angry and on the warpath. Not even a clan of vampires will be able to stop her.

Fractured Hearts

"My heart may have fractured when he left me, but I adamantly refuse to let it shatter. I'm stronger than that, and I'm ready to get nasty. This is going to be a side your family has never seen out of me. I hope you're prepared, because when I'm done taking your stupid, arrogant brother down a few notches, I'm coming after you. Yes, you heard me correctly. You may be small, fast, and graceful, but I'm filled with enough rage at this point to go vampire on your pixie, ballerina ass!"  ~Bella - Chapter 2: Voicemails

Lisa,

Wow! You've done it again. I loved the exposure of Alice's insecurities and that you've left her always having the best of intentions in tact while making her infallible. I love that the Cullens are all learning so much from Bella and that she seems to have a better sense of herself yet seems to understand that she too is learning who she is and how it relates to her circumstances.  As usual, when I read this story, I am always right there with them. You are going to be a great author someday and I will buy every book you release. Will you sign one for me???

Sincerely,

Jess

Author's Response:

Oh Jess, once again your review has truly touched my heart. Thank you so much, and of course I would sign any and every book for you that I eventually publish. It would be my complete honor. I'm thrillled with the things you picked out and really enjoyed in this chapter. I'm trying so hard to make sure that the family dynamic stays forefront to the story almost as much as the love story. It is also extremely important to me to make sure that both Edward and Bella learn and grow as individuals as well as a couple. I'm honored that you feel I'm accomplishing this goal. Thank you again for such a complimentary review, it truly brought a warmth to my chest. I'm humbled by your thoughts.

Lisa,

The loving sibling rivalry between Alice and Edward is a touch of genius and I truly enjoy that aspect of this story. Rather than just being there for each other, they challenge one another in a way that only the two of them appreciate and I love that.

Jasper too is so enjoyable to read from your perspective, you've made him a believable character with more depth than SM ever gave him.

As always, I am looking forward to your next post!

Jess

Author's Response:

Again, thank you for your kind words, Jess. They mean a lot. I have to admit that I always felt SM's portrayal of the family relationships was lacking. She provided the blueprint, but I felt it was important to flesh it out further. I wanted to show that even immortal families will bicker and pick at each other; perhaps even more than human families as they have so much more time to get on each other's nerves. Jasper was another character that is near and dear to my heart. I wanted more than the hint of a bond between him and Bella that SM portrayed in the books. And unlike most stories, I never got the impression it was a sexual bond in any way. Those stories bother me as I feel they are completely missing the essence of that relationship. A bond doesn't have to be sexual. Sorry for the babble, but I read your words and get drawn into why I love these characters so much. I appreciate your reviews so much.

Lisa,

This review is for this chapter and the one prior. There's a lot to cover so forgive me if I miss anything. First, let me say can I borrow your Edward for a foot rub? Day-um. Jasper was endearing to a fault and still I love the depth you've given to his character. Alice is clever as always and I find it fitting that you were able to use Angela as a catalyst for Bella to let go of some of her inhibitions and insecurities. I think it put her in a better place to relate to Edward. The trip to Seattle was light hearted and fun which was needed to lead to the next chapter. Ahhhh, the next chapter. What a sweet lemon. Bella showed that she truly respects and understands Edward and it was a relief to find that Edward is starting to see himself a bit more clearly with Bella's guidance. Her new found strength in character is endearing to say the least and as always I am really enjoying your version of her. I love that she has become comfortable in her own skin and even more so, I love that Edward is finally able to see just how strong and sensual she is. This chapter was delightful to read and you wrote it perfectly! Kudos to you darling. I wait with baited breath for the next chapter. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

Jess

Author's Response:

Jess, thank you so much for the in depth double review. As always, yours words warm my heart as you touch on things that I felt were important but perhaps subtle. You always pick up on them and I so appreciate that about you. You can borrow my Edward for a foot rub, but I won't share my husband who actually inspired that foot rub. ;) I'm thrilled that you can see the growth and development that both Bella and Edward have gone through in their relationship to get to this place. It's truly becoming a partnership with a give and take that I think was lacking before. Watching Bella come into her own has been exciting for me as well. Again, thank you for the lovely review and for your dedication to this story. I never fail to appreciate it. Now I must get to work as a couple of people having stopped talking in my head all week. ;)

Lisa,

I think the naughty smutty goodness in you has been released and it seems there may be no turning back. Fret not, this is definitely a good thing. Okay, so Edward had his unsolicited conversation with Jasper which was unexpected but a great direction for the story none the less. I know I've already told you that I adore the way you've explored Jasper's character and the previous chapter has only served to further validate that belief. So kudos on that.

This chapter was an amazing lemonade, but beyond that I loved the symbolism of walls being brought down between our favorite supernatural couple. Bella's faith in Edward and through her strength of character, Edward finally believing it is possible that he is more than the monster he has always seen in himself. It is refreshing to read a story in the New Moon realm of things in which an author has deviated from the normal Edward angst and allowed him to grow as a person. I really love what you've done here and the direction you are taking isn't at all lost on me.

Okay, I guess that is all for this review.

Much Love,

Jess

Author's Response:

Jess, I'm absolutely humbled by your review. The fact that you can see the layers within this chapter is such a wonderful treat for me. It was very important for me to feel like I portrayed Edward's growth into accepting that perhaps his fate is intertwined with Bella - not as an immortal and a human, but as a man and a woman. I'm grateful for your keen eye that has reassured me that I accomplished this goal. It's hard to remove the angst completely from Edward, as SM wrote him so beautifully as an a consistently angsty person; even in light of his happiness at being with Bella. Peeling away the layers slowly was also difficult as I'm as anxious as everyone else seems to be to see him at least try to be the man he can be. I think Jasper's talk (which wasn't just gentle kid glove treatment) combined with Bella's faith really helped Edward embrace the possiblities in a way that nothing else would have. Again, thank you so much for reading, and for leaving such supportive and detailed reviews. It's the best kind of treat for me to find, and certainly much easier on my hips. ;)

Hi Lisa,

I found the light feel of this chapter to be perfect. I love Alice's meddling ways and Emmett's childish antics. It's wonderful to see Bella feeling as though she belongs, but my favorite touch was Charlie. Seeing him on the path to acceptance and the struggle of letting his little girl go. It was both heart warming and heart breaking.

BTW - I let out a fan girl squeal when I saw the update. I've been working 60 hour weeks as of late and haven't been able to read as much as I've been opting to spend any free time working on my own original fic, but I had to make an exception for Fractured Hearts.

Much Love,

Jess

Author's Response:

You are my 1500th review. Hooray. I love the number 15 in any form. :) Oh Jess, thank you so much for making an exception for my story. I am so honored that you would take time out of your insane work schedule and own writing time to read my work. I'm thrilled you loved the light and fun feel of this chapter - and prepare yourself - because my plan is to write the next two chapters this weekend. They are picking up right where this left off as the Cullens don't do anything on a small scale and Christmas is no exception. I had outlined the Christmas chapter to be ONE chapter, but Emmett and his green crayon shot that all to hell again. Not to mention he's been singing that ridiculous (but funny) song in my head almost non-stop for about three weeks, and since Rosalie is a bit upset with me about Bella's panties - she has done nothing to stop him. Go figure. I so appreciate you. You have always supported my story and given me such lovely reviews, and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. :)

So glad you are back and to hear that things are once again stabalizing in RL. The chapter was well worth the wait. You took me off guard with the attack on Bella, I so didn't expect that! Jacob's fury is almost endearing.....almost. I love the depth you gave Sam Uley, also unexpected but it fits so well and makes me respect him. Charlie broke my heart, I love the way you write him. He is the epitome of 'Dad' - and dear sweet Edward, ready to change his love. You're really bringing these characters full circle. The dimension you've given all of them is unlike anything I've read in the fan fiction genre. You're incredible!

Author's Response:

Hey Jess. Thank you for the warm welcome. It's good to be back and yes, real life is starting to find some balance again. Bella's attack caught me off guard as well. Laurent didn't reveal to me just how sinister he was or how evil his plans for Bella were until I was actually typing it out. Jacob's fury is almost endearing in a few scattered moments, but for the most part he's just like every other annoying 16 year old that's fallen in love and can't have the girl he wants. Except in his case he can fursplode into a deadly creature when he doesn't get his way. ;) I've gotten quite a few comments on Sam and how he's portrayed in this chapter. I've been pleasantly surprised as I didn't realize I was writing him any differently than people were used to - other than the fact he doesn't tolerate Jacob's temper tantrums nearly as much as in the books. Oh Charlie. He broke my heart too. That entire scene between Charlie and Edward was very difficult for me to to write as the emotional overload between them both just wrecked me. For Charlie to recognize how much Edward loved Bella, and then to trust her care to him as he went to the res - not to mention calling him son - just turned me into a weepy puddle. I'm deeply humbled by your compliments on my writing, and I've always enjoyed your reviews. Thank you for sticking with me during my absence and continuing to enjoy this story. It means a great deal to me.

"His agony defines him. His memories destroy him.

But his hope is what sustains him, feeds him, encourages him. It's his purpose. And he doesn't deny it.

Offered the chance to leave all pain and misery behind, Edward knew that it was better to suffer his loss than to forget it. For in having it, Bella remains his and only his.

To forget would be the ultimate betrayal, abandoning her once again to a world of lonliness and despair. He had already done that once upon a time, and he did so spectacularly.

He'll find her. He has to.

HE HAS TO."
