Updated November, 2009

This story is now COMPLETE!

Dark Side of the Moon is my version of New Moon from Edward’s point of view.  Witness how Edward agonized over leaving Bella, hunted for Victoria, faced the Volturi, and came to realize that with Bella was where he was meant to be.

This tormented story has been a part of my life for about a year and a half – and what a ride it’s been!  Meant to be canon and in character, I hope you enjoy angsty Edward and his suffering during New Moon.  As unhappy as Bella was during this time, Edward suffered so much more (I think).  So be sure and crack open a fresh box of tissues before reading!

Thank you to everyone for all the reviews, especially to those of you who reviewed each and every chapter!  Your support and loyalty have been the driving force to me getting this project finished – and I hope it’s lived up to all of your expectations.

Love you all,

blondieakarobin

PS.  As one last thank you, I’ve posted a formatted, printable copy of Dark Side of the Moon at http://bit.ly/2vLHMi, as will also post as an electronic version suitable for viewing on a kindle or MobiReader.  I’m also posting a ‘Director’s Cut’ that includes citations of all of Bella’s quotes from Twilight, research notes, and even funny comments from my betas in this version in the same directory.

Use of the dialog from the series is just for clarity - Stephenie Meyer owns all things twilight!  I'm making absolutely nothing from this work.

My god!  I'm amazed!  You are so good at portraying Edward and making us feel so much for him...especially in his version of a book that I have no desire to like him in.  You have changed my mind!  I love this fic!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  I guess I was in the minority when I read NM - all through the story, all I could think about was how much Edward had to be suffering, having pulled himself away from the one thing that gave him life in order that she could live (in his mind, at least).

Thanks for reading, and for the lovely review!  Edward thanks you too... 8-)

This is such a beautiful Emmett.  I love stories that give him a personality past the limits of SM's stereotypes.  It would NEVER have occured to me to make Emmett insecure about Edward, but now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense.  He came first, and Rose was made for him...wonderful inclusion there.

I love the way you link the milestones of Emmett's life with vivid descriptions of nature...how they appeal to all of the senses and how you were able to so perfectly include that freedom of the open countryside into every aspect of the story: the taste of apples with his first kiss, the wind in the Smoky Mountains with his first love, the monsoon with his first kill.  I always link Emmett with a strong connection to the outdoors.  Very well done.

This was the first fic I ever read.  I remember it as longer, which is a good thing.  It is so well thought out that I really think it should be.  If you ever get the time, I would be one of you biggest fans on a project like that.

AaaaH!  Two final papers left to finish and all I want to do is read your fic!

This is incredibly done.  You made it fit so wonderfully into Twilight, and it seems like you've got even the little details down perfectly!

So far, I'm loving the fact that Alice mistook Edward's murdering spree for Jasper's, and I also love the reactions that you have created for my favorite civil war vet!

Author's Response:

Ahhhh, Jasper.  He's such a complex character, I know why Alice loves him.  It's such a compliment to know I've perhaps kept you from your homework.  I know what it's like to want to read rather than work.  This site is my biggest vice!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story, and I really appreciate the encouraging words.  Hopefully 18 will be done soon!

Thank you!

I love how Bella's character radiates the need for protection to everyone.  It ties it in to Twilight and Midnight Sun wonderfully.

It never occured to me that Edward left before he even got a chance to explain Bella's silence to the rest of them.  You have a great insight for these characters.  I wish I could find some of that!

Author's Response:

Heh...oh that Bella.  How she will turn the Cullens upsidedown!

Oh you have great insight =)  I thoroughly enjoyed your Alice story out of Purgatory.  Beautifully written.

"There was nothing more dangerous than an existential vampire." Loved that line!

I've been trying to do some writing all day and my mind keeps coming back to the craving to read your story...I'm very slow as you can tell, but I'm loving it.

I really like how you made Alice the one behind the scenes that works to convince them all.  It makes her bond with Edward, and even Bella later on, that much stronger.

Also, I'm fascinated with the idea that Alice doesn't want to leave because of some "unfinished business."  Really, all of those tiny details that tie everything in so perfectly are addicting.

Sorry, but you may be inundated with reviews by me soon!

Author's Response:

Erm, first off.  No apologizing for an inundation of reviews.  I will NEVER complain. ;)

Hee!  Existential vampire....I so love Jasper.

Thank you so much.  It's very flattering to hear that my story has attracted your attention!  It doesn't matter your speed of reading.  The fact that you take the time to leave the reviews is very appreciated!

I'm glad you are enjoying the canon tie-ins.  I've really worked and leaned on my betas to make sure this is all feasible and aligned with Twilight.  It -does- deviate from the leaked copy of Midnight Sun since most of it was written before that.  I stopped the alignment with MS after the first chapter.

Thank you again!

I think my eyes were about as disbelieving as I imagined Jasper's when Alice agreed to the janitor's closet.  Nice.  I laughed out loud, and that kind of reaction isn't easy!

Great detail about the Cullen's not having visible breath.  It had never entered my mind, but now that I think about it, it's perfectly logical.  You are great at this!

He ha...Captain Mindreader and Futurella!  Sounds like someone's got a title for a future crackfic.

I love the snow war!  SM doesn't describe much of the Cullen family life.  You make it easier to imagine how they can be so united.

Also, I have always been under the impression that Alice's visions just kind of appeared every now and then, and that the only thing she could really control was who they were about.  I like the idea that she can control them completely.  It opens up a lot!

Author's Response:

I am not this fail with review replies, I swear.  I don't know what is going on.

Heh....crackfic.  I'll bring that up to Mel and maybe she'll tackle it.

I think that I see her visions in two ways: those that she searches for, and those that just happen.  I like to think too, that she can't always see what she is looking for, and can't always control what comes in.  I didn't want to make her a MarySue, and I think that precogs have the potential to be the biggest MarySues of them all.

Thank you again for all these reviews!

Reviewer: spaniard Signed

I really love how you explain Alice's instant love of Bella with a vision and a void.  It has always been a weak part of the book for me--the quick way that everyone seemed to fall in love with Bella without question (except Rosalie of course).

This is such a wonderful point of view,  There are such tiny details that I could never possibly think of in here.  I love it.

Author's Response:

You know...i'm pretty sure I responded to this before...but the lack of italics underneith lead me to believe no... BOOOO ME!

Yeah, Alice does love Bella instantly, but that instantaneous-ness is confusing, and over whelming, and all sorts of angsty goodness.  I'm glad you enjoy it and that all of the little things make sense to you as a reader.  That's the part i'm always worried about.

Thank you again for being such a great and supportive reader!

My favorite:  Alice’s part.  I thought it was incredibly appropriate that her attitude would be so carefree and focused on tiny details like clothes, fully trusting that everything else would be fine.  I love her admonishment of Edward’s lack of thought in detail and her observation of how he’s changed.
