Mike is truly pond scum Author's Response: Thanks for commenting on this chapter. I knew Jess was going to be the one who spilled everything, from about chapter two. I just had to get us there. Now we are here and I am so pleased at how the chapter turned out. Mike is a jerk and a half, but there is more to be discerned about him as well. More on that in the next chapter.

Title: Chapter 18: Chapter 18- The Price of Being Edward
Great to hear why Edward did what he did.
I don't understand the conversastion he had with Emmett though. What happened between Em & R? How did they get through it since they are together in this story? Author's Response: I'm glad Edward's perspective helped you to understand why he did what he did.
The conversation makes sense, since Rose and Emmett are NOT together at this point in the story-though they might be in the future. If you read chapter 4-Bounty Hunter, you will see that Emmett dropped Rose and ran off to Barbados with another woman. They are not together now, though Emmett wishes that they were. He wasn't ready for a real relationship and did what he usually did, he broke her heart. I might explain more on this in a future chapter.

Edward lowered his eyes to his lap, obviously uncomfortable with my question. But there was nothing odd about it. It shouldn't cause tension, or reveal hidden secrets, or cause the amount of angst currently contorting his features.
I had simply asked him why he lived in the woods.
He grabbed a grape off the table, popped it in his mouth, and raised his head while he slowly chewed - scanning the trees ringing my office, as if he was searching for an answer to give me. I could see a faint blush to his cheek, and a hint of unshed tears in his crystalline green eyes. I could almost hear his heartbeat pick up speed as he finally turned to me. Closing his eyes for a moment he took a deep breath, willing himself to calm. Then his eyes snapped to my face and with renewed determination took another deep breath.
"Bella, I live there because I'm a vampire."

Summary:  
The summer before her junior year in college, Bella moves to be closer to her father. All the while adding some much needed space from her crazed frat-boy ex-boyfriend. Being there for her father comes with the fresh start she needs. (One without men to complicate it) Until, one evening after her shift the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on...comes to her aid. He causes Bella to almost forget the vow she's taken against the opposite sex. Almost. That is until the realization that he's a frat boy and she's never going there again. No matter how those intense green eyes make her feel.
What will happen when Bella transfers to the University of Washington and meets a handsome coed, Edward? Will she find peace from her past or be stuck playing the part?
