Title: Chapter 1: Vigil
Very apt! Like a vigil and or wake. No one in emmett's mind is really expecting success here! I like his assessment of everyone's state, as well as his perception of Edward. Such a different character than the witty, though serious one, we get to know. I do love the rationale that Emmett has put to Bella's appeal, wonder what Edward would say to that!

No one was more surprised than me when Emmett spoke up, but I'm really glad he did. I think perhaps that my Emmett thinks a little differently from canon Emmett; I'm fine with that. I have a soft spot for the big guy because he really does care about his brother. Also, nothing annoys me more in fanfiction than when he's portrayed as a lumbering doofus who just runs around breaking things. To me, he's not like that at all.
