Summary: Edward is a 27-year-old alcoholic/addict struggling with his recovery. Bella is a 23-year-old who's moved back home after college. This fic chronicles how they meet, fall in love, and struggle with the complexities of their relationship. Not nearly as maudlin as it sounds (I hope).
Rated NC-17 for graphic (and sometimes non-romantic) sex, drug and alcohol use and abuse, profane language, and brief (very brief) suicidal ideation (although NO suicide attempts). No sexual assault, no cutting.

Title: Chapter 9: Chapter 9
I like Edward's amused banter. He is getting more comfortable with Bella. It seems as though he has sunk pretty low in his life before and he is comfortable with just about anything now. He can discuss things from his past that would make others cringe, because there are worse things to ponder. Bella is a bright spot and he likes her. He's not trying to make fun of her, just make her react. Can't wait for more!

Well, I'm really hoping that Charlie is wrong. But, I'm sure he's seen a few too many things in life. But Bella's declaration to Edward definitely seems to have filled a void in Edward and left contentment. Will it be enough?

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1
You gotta give it to Edward. Despite being low, demoralized, and despicable he has moments of clarity where he is cognizant of his life and just how much he has fallen. He comes to a moment where he just can't allow himself to get any lower and he acts on it. This takes tremendous courage. Even through all his faults, he wants to be whole. It's going to be a struggle, and it's not going to be perfect or pretty-but he takes the steps to try for a better exsistence. I can't wait for more. I think you have written this very realistically (the worsening spiral) and you write well!

Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2
So, we get that Bella has moved to be back near her father but is bored with life so she stays in Port Angeles a few days a week. She's had a chance encounter with Edward, but is establishing her life with friends and friends with benefits. Good set up! Author's Response: Snowgood - thanks for the response. I hope it's clear that she stays in Port Angeles for work reasons (primarily).

Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Well, our boy is playing very hard to get! Bella seems to be almost naive when compared to Edward's life experience. I wonder if this is something that he senses? Can't wait for more!

Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Ah, so now we see what has been going through Edward's head for the past weeks. Not too much aside from daily routine, getting through the days and nights. It's funny how he suddenly notices Bella-her reaction to it is sort of embarassing for him, but even more enjoyable. Now that his psyche is changing, he is going to need a new coping mechanism! Will it be new friends? Author's Response: You're right on with the changing coping mechanisms. Absolutely.

Title: Chapter 5: Chapter 5
I was so grinning along with their book conversation, that the Jasper interruption startled ME! I feel so bad for both Bella and Edward that the conversation then took an awkward turn. How will Edward deal with his obvious discomfort about his life? He didn't lie, but he was uncomfortable. And Bella, wanting so badly to smooth things over didn't really acknowledge, but avoided. And now Jasper felt compelled to come forward. Poor Bella! Poor Edward! Will he try again? Author's Response: Thank you for your response. I'm so glad the conversation "worked" for you. =)

Title: Chapter 6: Chapter 6
So, Edward's life seems to have turned into one of dismal monotony, regrets, and limited expectations of anything better turning up. It's a wonder that he is still able to stay sober! I hope that someone can help him feel a lust for life again!

Gosh, that was so awkward and cute. If Edward was able to control his involuntary spewing of personal information, he might not have said a word! As it is, it's almost like watching a couple who have gone from having sex back to working towards first base. He is truly trying relearn social interaction all over again in a pg setting! Can't wait for more!

You do such a great job portraying the awkward, nervous, excitement that is going on between these two. I feel like I'm going to have an anxiety attack just reading! Poor Bella, she's disappointed. I do hope that she realizes that thier friendship will only grow and mature-maybe to something more!

Title: Chapter 10: Chapter 10
So, I guess Edward will soon discover that he will have to move ahead with his own plans and make his sobriety fit into his life. He can't keep Jasper in his head as the rule-maker! I found it incredibly sweet that Edward wanted to see Bella happy, so he drove her home. And safe, so he'll drive her to Seattle. And he wants her to want him, so he flirts and teases shamelessly! I can't wait for more!

Title: Chapter 11: Chapter 11
Do you know how many crazy women are doing cartwheels in their living rooms now? That was one hell of a first kiss! You nailed all the awkward emotions leading up to it, the sexual tension, the inability to make smooth conversation, the hesitancy to touch each other! Just beautiful!

Title: Chapter 12: Chapter 12
This is an intense moment! I don't think Edward has ever had feelings for someone like this before and while he is totally awed by the sensation he is confused too! If Edward doesn't talk to Jasper to figure out how to proceed, then maybe Bella should! I just can't wait to see how they handle these feelings!

The war of the want versus the should and the uncertainty of not knowing each other well enough! I love this phase of this relationship, you make the emotions palpable!

I don't think I have ever wanted to have sex right this instant so bad when I'm not already in proximity to a man. Thanks. It's gonna be a long night!

Title: Chapter 15: Chapter 15
It's hard to tell whether Edward is falling in love or becoming obsessed. Though one could argue that they often go hand in hand. When you fall in love with someone you often are obsessively thinking about them and thinking about how they make you feel. When you're obsessed with something, it's not all necessarily good things that you think about. Can't wait to see if Edward comes up with a name for all the emotions he's feeling!

Oh, I don't know what to say! Edward has fallen hard, and Bella sees him having a "good" time and rejecting her. How can she continue to hold him in her heart? Why has he just let go? I'm heartbroken!

Title: Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Bella is taking some time to realize her feelings, but she definitely has them. She thinks about him in the future-on a trip, at her apartment, meeting Charlie, being a twosome. He makes her feel good, he makes her laugh, he tries anything for her, and he loves her. She thinks he's good for her, she needs to let him know that!

That was rough. Thank god he's getting help. Did he finally hit bottom? What happened to Bella? Is she at the bottom too?

Title: Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Edward has had a really hard road, but it looks as if he has finally found things that make life worth living and that make him feel worthy. I don't blame him for thinking of Bella or thinking that she wouldn't want to see him. I somehow think that he is going to need to make amends at some point and talking to Bella and apologizing is going to need to happen.

Well, I'm glad that Edward has a therapist to help him sort what is important to think about and what isn't. I think he thinks about Bella a little more than he lets on and I think if he thinks long and hard enough he would realize she didn't really want him to leave that day. I hope he texts her.

That was a much more natural conversation about what happened and where they are at now. Of course, it still ended very awkward, but I think they both need to think on each other.

Title: Chapter 25: Chapter 25
Two chapters! There is a lot of progress, they have intertwined their lives again and it's obvious that they really care about each other. The big obstacle seems to be uncertainty. I think they both need to realize that nothing is certain in this world and decide whether or not they want to take a chance. Bella said that she didn't believe her time with Jacob was a waste because they enjoyed life and love together while it lasted. So why not Edward and Bella?
