Summary:  You know those fics where Edward doesn't come back and Bella forgets about him and five seconds later she's in bed with Jacob and none of it makes any damn sense?
Yeah, this isn't one of them.
This story picks up from the moment in New Moon when Jacob has driven Bella home after the cliff diving incident, right before he catches the scent of Alice. Only in this telling, Alice wasn't looking, so there's no sudden appearance at Bella's house, no Rosalie calling Edward and sending him on a suicidal mission to Volterra, and no reason for Bella to do anything but believe that Edward didn't love her anymore. This is simply a story of what might have happened if everyone stayed mostly in character and Edward's return was delayed. Yes, delayed. Because we all know that he was "this close" to coming back on his own anyhow.
So what would have happened if Bella had tried to move on with her life? Would she have found happiness with Jacob? And would Edward be too late?

Title: Chapter 1: Dilemma: Bella's POV
Thank you SO much for writing this whole story - Breathe Again. I needed this - more than you will ever know. I read the Twilight saga - over and over. Loved the movies. I fell in love with them. Like so many other people. But as time went on I found I had this gaping hole in my heart. I had fallen in love with Jacob Black and I couldn't understand why he couldn't have won. Sounds stupid, I know. In my mind, I changed the story - added my own "alternate ending" that I wished Stephenie Meyer had written. One day I even started to put it down in words. I'm no "writer", I'm not terrible and I have even written a couple of articles. But that got me thinking - "fan fiction" hadn't I read that somewhere. Were there other people out there thinking the same thing?? Thank God there are - you are. The hole in my heart feels better. Yeah, I know, stupid - it's just a story. But thank you - you made my dreams come true with this. Seeing Jacob and Bella fall in love - reading about their desires, it's worked wonders for me. I can't wait to see the rest - no matter what happens.

Ok, funny. Tell me that the photo shoot that Taylor Lautner did playing football in the surf in a white t-shirt and jeans rolled up didnt INSPIRE the whole football game scenario - LOVE IT !! Author's Response: Hell yeah that photo shoot inspired me! I saw the pictures from it and started writing that beach scene the very next day. That sure got me out of a funk with my story, let me tell you. I'm just glad you appreciate it too! ;)

And Doggy style - of course! I was waiting for that one and you didnt disappoint.
Leah gets her man - oh thank God. I really do love a happy ending and I was hoping beyond hope that he would show up. Also gave Bella a little bit of her own medicine! Perfect. Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter. I was suffering from serious writer's block and all of a sudden I came up with using BD as a dream...and the rest of the chapter just came together. I had a good time with putting Bella in that uncomfortable situation with Jack & Leah. I'm glad you liked it to. Anyway, thanks again for all of your reviews.

FABULOUS! OMG, I will never look at Taylor Lautner again without thinking about what he might look like as a sexy cowboy. Love it. Great story - love the Halloween party, love Leah and her new man (she so deserves it!), love Sam in the wolf costume (only Emily could have made him do that!), and even love Quil and Embry showing up again - it really shows what a family they are !!! Very very good. Thanks. Author's Response: Honestly, I don't even have a thing for cowboys. But, I asked my husband to help me come up w/ a costume for Jake, and that's what he came up with. I'll never think of cowboys the same again. I'm glad you enjoyed the party scene. Thanks for taking the time to review.

Great chapter! I knew one of them would show up in FL, but I wasn't expecting Jacob. He would have the means to get there as quickly as Edward (car or plane), so you sent him on his motorcycle! Cool. Title: Chapter 29: 29. This Isn't Goodbye
Great writing! I love it. Billy dying was a an amazing story line. you took the story where I have not seen other fan fic take it and really delved into a huge part of who Jacob is. I LOVED it even though I was crying through it. Really terrific writing that brought me so far into the story that i felt like I was crying with jacob and holding Jacob and trying to comfort jacob. terrific job. This story will be in my favorites list. Author's Response: Wow. Thank YOU for that wonderful review! I had the idea of Billy dying planned since I started writing the fic but I always knew it would be super hard to actually write the chapters. And unfortunately, a very good friend died when I was writing the outline of the chap. It's sad to say but it helped so much in writing Jacob's feelings. Jake has always been very close to his dad and I couldn't think of any other way for him to respond to his death. I'm so sorry you ended up crying even if I thiçnk I find it gratifying. It shows me that I did a good job and given that this fic is a huge part of my life (school is trying to replace it at the moment but I'm fighting hard even though it's a difficult job!) and I always like when readers like what I write.
