Summary:

Edward leaves Bella, much like the beginning of 'New Moon', however, this time, they are all human and there is quite the twist.  Why did Edward leave Bella?  And what secret is Bella keeping when he leaves?

Can they make a nightmare turn into a dream?

THANKS TO EMERALD_ROSALIE FOR THE ABOVE BANNER AND ATHENALOVE FOR THE BELOW.

I have been out for a few days so I am behind.

I have to say I expected much, much worse so this was't so bad.  The fact the moniter showed an improvement as Edward spoke to Bella and touched her made my heart do a bit of a flip ... in a good way.

Sandra

Author's Response: I am glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for reviewing!

Leave it Emmett to "get on with the gettin'".

Once again things went pretty well considering the circumstances and all.   Why Emmett even brought a bit of comic relief and we've all had a chance to catch our breath.

One more and I'll be caught up.

Box of kleenex by my side.  PPIP (power panties in place).  If I do not leave the next review in a timely fashion send in reinforcements.  1-2-3, deep breath, going in .........

Sandra

Author's Response: Poor thing. It is like waiting for a truck to hit you! Glad you enjoyed Emmett! He is so fun to write. Thanks for reviewing!

Okay I'm out.

Oh Bella.  Baby it is going to be okay.  Edward is with you and he isn't going anywhere.  Alice is here too.  Carlisle is near and Charlie is on his way with Esme and Emmett. Just hang on baby.

Alice, doing what she does best.  How very soothing that in the face of adversity she in unfaltering and able to talk to Bella in such a familiar way.  To place myself in Bella's hospital gown, so to speak, I think that is exactly what I would want of my best friend.

And as sad as it is, and it is sad, the good news is that Bella is there.  She may be under the surface but she is there.  And in that I feel hope that she will break through.  Now if Edward can just keep talking to her bringing her forward because we really don't want to lose her, not now, not after she has come so far.

I am a bit concerned for Charlie now.  How this must be ripping his heart out, how it will rip it out further when he has a chance to see his baby girl.

And Esme.  Bella needs a mother's gentle touch and assurances now.

And now that my heart rate is back to normal and the feeling of fail has passed I hunker in and prepare for the next installment .....

Sandra

Author's Response: What an amazing review! There is actually a lot of hope in this chapter as well. Both that she is still there and that, at her core, she still loves Edward. Charlie is up next and it is so not pretty. Thank you for reviewing!

Obviously I have never been a father.  But I have always been a daddy's girl. I know that my father would fight to the death for my sister and I.  That is all I have to base Charlie's pain on from a fathers POV.

As a mother I can say anyone ever mess with my sons I would chew them up and spit them out.  Somewhere within there I would attempt to listen to reason.

Poor Charlie.  I try to think of what, if anything, could have better prepared him for what he was walking into.  Thankfully Carlisle was once again the voice of reason and able to calm Charlie enough to keep him from upsetting Bella further.

And Edward.  My god, he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.  Too much for one so young.  But it has to be somewhat comforting for him to know that Bella reacts favorably while he is there holding her hand.  Despite the heartwrenching doom and gloom one cannot help but feel the love and hope that pours from his soul to hers.

And now it is time to remove the power panties and wash em up good so they'll be ready for the next chapter.

Sandra

Author's Response:

There is so much damage.  So much tragedy.  Charlie having to see his little girl in this condition with NO idea of what he was walking into.  Edward being confronted with his fears and having to bear the guilt of what he did to Bella and what her father will think of him.  Carlisle for allowing this to happen at all.  It's so much.

The next chapter is very very difficult.  Please just keep the faith when you read it.  It will be okay.

Thank you for your wonderful reviews!

Well if you insist on hiding it better be behind those closed doors where you can help Carlisle save Bella's life.

I'm here to say it is a little early in the day for the vodka but I had 3 cups of coffee prior to reading this chapter.  Most days that is nothing.  Right about now I am pinging off the walls waiting for a crash cart to come and restore my heart to a somewhat natural rhythm.

Whew!  Can you say intense.  It seemed it took forever for the hospital staff to respond to the call.  But Edward.  To have Bella wheeled away behind the unknown of door number three had to scare the shit out of him.  To take her where he can't follow how will she be alright without him holding her hand soothing her with words and kisses.

Chanting. Chanting.  You do know, of course, I do trust you? Chanting. Chanting....

Sandra

Author's Response:

Since the story is told from the character's emotional perspective, I think the response time to Bella was probably immediate (Big Daddy C would have it NO other way), but, from the terrified eyes of two teenagers a five seconds would have felt like an etertnity.

Well, I'm glad you didn't have to hit the bottle in the morning - never a good sign, but wow, after three cups of coffee, I can see why you needed a crash cart after reading this!

Keep your chanting going.  It will be okay.

Ooooooh boy.

I got through EPOV with tears.  But the tears held hope and love.  I was overwhelmed with his words to his duaghter.

Enter CPOV and damn it if I didn't lose it.  I lost it real big and I am having trouble reining it in.  My dad and I have always had a very close bond as I do with each of my sons.  I can not begin to imagine the pain a parent would feel in this situatution.

I do love how Edward calls his daughter "little love".  It made me smile through my tears.

Sandra

Author's Response:

This was such an important chapter.  I'm so glad you felt I did it justice.

It's a hard chapter, but there is so much hope here.

Wow that had some painful moments.  How very awful for Rosalie and Jasper to have to endure this scene.  But I really liked how she did not hesitate to call Esme and Charlie in an effort to get them back to the hospital.

In the meantime Edward continues to rip my heart out.  I am just glad they have one another there.

Going back to the beginning of the chapter ...  How difficult it must have been to enter Bella's apartment.  And yet despite the sparse desolation of their discovery there stood the crib with the sheet and blanket and lamb.  A symbol of innocence and love amid the squalor of the outside world, yeah that brought on my tears.  How very fortunate Charlie was that Esme was with him as I do not know that he would have made it without the strength of a woman, not only to clean up but to get him focused on what needed to be done.

But I do thank you for that little bit of humor you threw in.  You know, using a flyswatter on Mothra.  Now that was some funny shit.

Loved It All ~ Sandra

Author's Response: I try to fit a little humour in when I can! Definitely some rough moments in that chapter. So much pain. There is some hope in the next though. Thanks for reviewing!

Alot to think about indeed!

I do believe the main house is most important for Bella at this time.  She has been on her own for far too long and needs to know that she is not alone.   At the same time I hope that Edward can stay in the house too.  I hate the thought of him staying alone in the guest house.  Maybe Charlie could stay in the guest house while Bella gets better.  He would still be able to work and be near as Bella heals.

Despite the looming questions that need answers we are left with a sense of relief...a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sandra

Author's Response:

There is definitely hope at this point, no matter what she chooses.  Nothing will be easy, but some choices are better than others.

Thanks so much for reviewing.

The dream state Bella is in at the beginning of the chapter got my attention at the get go.  And it wasn't because of the ideal world she had placed herself in.  No it was the name ... Elizabeth.   She would have named her daughter Elizabeth.  Did you hear me squee?!!!

I expected to feel somewhat distraught as Bella started to come back but I did not.  I imagine the machines that were monitoring her vitals were going a bit wild.  I am curious if it was the sound of Edward's voice of the fact that her tummy was now flat that set off the panic.  But ... but ... she did calm down when she heard Carlisle's voice.  Was that because in hearing his voice she realized that Edward was indeed there with her and she began to make sense of what he was saying?

Perhaps I am reading what I want into it? lol.

Sandra

Author's Response:

LOL!  You squeed?  YAY!

Her vitals started to become wonky because she was starting to become lucid, to hear Edward and realize that she didn't have her baby anymore.  Sort of everything coming into her mind and barraging her at once.

You certainly read it just as I meant it!

Thanks for reviewing!

Little by little we see the little repairs.  Elizabeth is doing well, Bella is coming back, Edward and Jasper sat down, literally, and talked.  Edward is agreeable to shower and that has to say something too.  Perhaps his own depression and self loathing are lifting.  Having a baby will make you grow up but I like to think the link to Bella has something to do with it as well.

Once again I do love your Jasper.  I can't help compare him to the vampire Jasper and how he affects those around him.  I like to think your Jasper is similar to the "original" before his change.

Well I am all caught up now so will take a seat in the waiting room with the rest of the Cullen clan as we await word on Bella and get updates on Elizabeth.  But before I go, how did Alice's visit go with her niece.  I can tell they are going to have a great bond.

Sandra

PS ~ Looking forward to your new story.  Sounds like fun.

Author's Response:

Yes, healing is happening in small stages.  But, in the end, they will all come together.

Vamp Jasper didn't have much of a voice in the story, in my opinion, so I gave him one.  I *do* think there is a point of comparison.  Jasper was an empath in SM's version and was extremely sensitive to human emotion.  This Jasper is much the same.  He's extremely perceptive and has a better idea of the emotional climate of the others than they do.  He just expesses it in a more... expulsive fashion.

More with Bella next chapter!

And so glad you're willing to give ...Becomes the Swan a chance!

As I read this chapter I fluctuate between joy and fear.  Joy because, well because she is awake.  Fear is for the unknown.

I am glad Carlisle is with her.  He loves her as if she is his own.  And despite the fact that he, too, left her he is here now and able to comfort her as no strange doctor could.  I like that he let her know that the whole family is there but she can see them when she is ready.  I wondered how she would react to Charlie being there and Carlisle's voice of reason let her know that Charlie loves her and is there for her. I may have even chuckled with her thoughts of Charlie and Edward together within the walls of the same hospital.

When Carlisle tells her Angela found her and is here with her now it was like a sense of relief.  Angela is Switzerland.  Bella needs someone that knows the whole story and is there for her.  Perhaps it will be easier for her to speak with the others after she has spoken with Angela.

Elizabeth.  I hope she gets to see the baby soon.  To know that she is perfect and that she will be okay.  It will make it easier to face what is ahead.

As always, loved the chapter.

Sandra

Author's Response:

Thank you endlessly for all of your support!  It means the world.

Carlisle was right to stay and brave her reaction.  She needed something familiar.  And the fact that she was able to tolerate him, even be comforted by him, bodes well for the rest.

As for Charlie and Edward in the same hospital, I'd be worried to, were I Bella!

Elizabeth - sigh - I've wriitten this chapter and it's a tough but beautiful one.  At least that is how I meant it to be...

Thanks again for your support and review!

Oh Pomme, I really like how this chapter starts.  Once again Carlisle enters and this time grabs something to eat.  A gesture so "normal" tends give those around him a feeling of calm....can't eat if life is going down the drain right.  The ease of the conversation and little bit of humor lifts the spirits and emotes a calm as well.

No surprise that she would ask to see Angela first, although we already knew that (?), right?  Hmmm, with a bit of a kind grin (not a funny grin), those in the room are anxious to see Bella but each a little nervous to be the first.  Each has listened to Carlisle but no one knows with certainy what to expect.  So yes, Angela is a good choice.  A safe choice.  In essence, Switzerland.

And if anyone has ever doubted the purity of Angela's heart they can lay the thought to rest now.  Always loving, always caring, always a voice of reason.  Not only did she save Bella and Elizabeth's life she did for Bella what Bella could not bring herself to and that was find the Cullen's who in turn contacted Charlie, and, well you know the rest.  I couldn't help but shed a few  the tears as they talked.  To hear Angela talk about the baby and Edward made my heart swell and so naturally a few more tears fell.  And then again came the bit of a kind grin as I pondered Angela's visit with Bella as this seemed to have the same effect on her as Carlisle's words had out in the waiting room.  We are, at least I was, left with a sense of everything will work out.  Don't get me wrong I am still anxious for her face to face with Charlie and Edward, bought a new box of kleenex and everything, but I know all will be well.  Oh yes!  And I am practicing my happy chair dance for when she sees Elizabeth.  (Will Edward be with her when that happens?)

In response to ~ "I know what I want, but I don't know what I need?".  I believe she wants the fairytale with Edward and Elizabeth complete with the HEA as a family.  But when reality sets is what does she need?  Personally I believe she needs what she wants....to feel loved and wanted and to be with Edward and Elizabeth.

"...Movie of your choice, and he will re-enact the lead role with you as his leading lady.  Or not.  Up to you!  Let's hear it!"   Are you kidding me?  Alright but you asked for it.  The will be no cutesy "Blue Lagoon" or "Ever After".  Nope.  If I am going to re-enact a lead role with a Cullen man I want them all.  A title that can only be found in a dark back room.  Something like "Sandra and the Four "Large Wood" Men."

Alright loved the chapter but enough of my foolishness.....

Sandra

Author's Response: Anothrer amazing review! Thank you! Yes, Carlisle's relative normality certainly sets a tone. And Angela is to Bella what Jasper is to Edward- a supportive friend who won't allow her to hide. I think it only natural that Bella should want to talk to her first! There are reunions aplenty to come so I am glad you bought more kleenex! As for your movie/Cullen combo, LMAO! I'll take anything behind that curtain, sir. Oh, and a box of raisenets, an Edward and a Carlisle, please!

I do hope Charlie comes away from seeing Bella with much of the same relief that Angela did.  I can only imagine the words that are passing between them as I type this.  Ah, hell, it's Bella and Charlie they don't need a lot of words to convey what they feel.

Edward.  Such guilt ridden torment for one so young.  Thanks to you Carlisle is standing there beside him offering words of wisdom and a fathers gentle embrace.  He lets Edward know he is not alone but does little to ease the apprehension he feels.

As far as the epilogue goes I hope to see some interaction with the siblings and Elizabeth.

Sandra

Author's Response:

Charlie and Bella... what can I say?  You'll have to read it to get the full effect.  It's a hard chapter, and a sweet chapter.

Edward... he's paid dearly.  But Carlisle needed to have this very adult conversation with him.  Coddling him further will just hinder his ability to face this clearly and try to mend it.

As far as the epilogue, fair enough:)

Thanks so much for your support here and on BtS!

Pomme please do not view this as letting a part of yourself go but rather see this as a part of yourself that will live within the hearts of your readers for a long time to come.  A story such as this needs to be celebrabrated as it has certainly  touched the hearts of readers throughout the world in all walks of life.

Not Like This has been a pleasure to read.  When I look back at the experience I can't help but smile at all the the times I opened my email and found an update and the squeee that often accompanied the new installment.  I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster but felt elated to find that the despair was followed by hope and a love so pure that at times I could feel my heart swell with happiness.

Congratulations on the completion of your story and Thank You so much for sharing it with us.

and congratulations to you for the blessing you carry at this time.

Well the meeting between Bella and Charlie was realatively painless.  I like the ease of their banter and the gentle mutual respect they share.  Charlie really was wonderful in keeping Bella's anxiety at bay.  His words about Esme being with the baby helped to keep Bella quite calm.  And I could not help but chuckle a bit whenhe talked about Edward.

Man, I missed this story!

I do love Esme....most of the time anyway!  She always knows what to say and do.  Loved the conversation between her and Charlie and the fact that Edward and Bella are going to need guidance.

And Jasper.  He sure doesn't sugar coat anything.  I guess that why Bella is willing to listen to him.  That and she can talk to him without him getting all there, there now.  I was very happy  that he told her he was going to lock Bella and Alice up together until they talked everything out.

Sandra

Author's Response:

Jasper has a way of saying exactly what you need to hear in a way you cannot ignore.  Despite Edward's reasoning, I think Bella sees him as the least at blame for what happened, which makes it easier for her to talk to him.

And Esme... I love Esme.  I hope I'm that kind of mom.

Good Morning, Pomme!  I left this story last night when I could no longer remain awake.  I dreamed of this story through the night and awoke several times.  Hard as it was I did manage to go back to sleep as I new I needed to be well rested for these next chapters.

I did just fine until Edward said to Elizabeth "Hey Little Love" and "Are you ready to meet your mother?"  My tears began to fall and by the time his tears began to fall I had lost all control.  However, trooper that I am, I did not let this stop me.

By the time Bella began to cry I was in such a state that I found I had to stuff kleenex up my nose to keep from shorting out the laptap.

But in true Pomme fashion you threw in the visual of Edward sans the shirt.  As much as I would have liked to see the shirt come off under different circustances it did help alleviate the pain.  The moment was so heartwarming and tender that a sigh may have escaped my lips but not in a sexual way of course.

Well time for another cup of coffee.   And I think it will behoove me to put some power panties on.  I tried a girlde once but had to have my husband cut it off me when it cut off the circulation.

Okay, give me a few minutes and I'm goin in....

Sandra

Author's Response:

*giggles*  Oh, how I've missed your reviews!

Shirtless Daddyward definitely takes the sting out of things.  Poor kid.  You just want to snuggle him as you kick him in the shins...

Thank you so much for reading and for your support.

Oh Pomme.  The whole chapter was intense.

Your Angela is the best.  I loved the brief convo between Angela and Rosalie.  Angela tells Rosalie much of the same thing she has told other family members but Rosalie is able to process the information without the emotional guilt that the others carry.  When Angela talks with Edward her words are gentle but firm and leave me with a sense of hope that everything will eventually come out in the wash.

Esme's moment with Bella was almost spiritual in nature.  It damn near gives me shivers that Esme held Bella with all the love of a mother as Bella held Elizabeth with all her love.  The bonding moment was so intense.  The conversation they share is very sad but the fact that Bella is talking to her at all gives the reader a sense of hope.  Esme's answers are honest and from the heart and Bella, being the trusting soul that she is, is taking it all in.  She has so much to process and needs to set her own pace to do so.

If nothing else I leave this chapter with the sense that she will forgive but she will not forget and it is the forgetting that she needs to come to terms with.  In essence I guess it is the same as her love for Edward will always remain but the trust, yeah the trust.....   We know there will be an HEA because you told us there would be one when you asked us to trust you.  Now we just have to find a way to trust that you will fix this.

Hmmm.  Spandex pants are doing a better job holding me together better than I thought possible.  Yes, well now to peel them off so I can pee.

Sandra

Author's Response:

Don't get spandex burns!

Yeah, the real issue here is trust.  She loves him, she probably already forgives him.  But trusting him will be far harder to come by.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Date: November 03, 2009 Title: Chapter 44: Chapter 43 - The Highway

Dammit Pomme.  The last chapter wasn't so bad.  So, smug that I am I removed the spandex with a smirk thinking I wouldn't need them.  Eeeeegh.  Wrong.  Yes that's right.  WTF was I thinking?  Somehow I left  chapter 42 with a sense of hope so having shed the power pants I donned the rose colored glasses.  Hell I even open the blinds to let the sun shine in.  Again I ask what was I thinking?  I'll tell you what I was thinking the chapter title of 42 was Trust and Faith, that's what I was thinking.  I don't know, maybe the title The Highway was a bit misleading.  Well let me tell you this was no riding off into the sunset on the Highway to an HEA.

Okay.  That aside.  I can see where you are going with this.  I can understand where Bella is going with this and why.  It doesn't make it any easier though.

So While you are hiding behind the steel door with a shirtless Edward, in the Witness Protection Program non the less, please remember a lot of you readers are depending on you to fix this.

As for me.  You will find me in the forest behind my house near the squirrels so they can keep an eye on me and out of harms way.

And before I stomp on the rose colored glasses I have to ask myself just how much worse can it get.  I am pretty sure we have hit rock bottom here.  And when we are at rock bottom we have nowhere else to go but up, right.  Maybe it is time to quit playing The Beatles Nowhere Man on a loop and try to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I think I will start with the rose colored glasses....

Sandra

Author's Response:

I do believe in happy endings!  Hang in there!  Keep on the rose coloured glasses as you are right, these chapters are probably the worst of it.

Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Oh Pomme, this story is angst at it's finest.  I'm not gonna lie.  I cried like a baby.  And my heart hurt real bad.  But rather than an attempt to hide behind stupid humor I'm gonna listen to Jasper and try to face what is on the horizon.  I do not know that you will have to take Edward back into witness protection but he will need your strength to get him through this.

Sometimes I forget that Edward is so young.  He is wrought with guilt.  Everyone has great advice for him but how can he process everything in his state of mind.   And then there is Jasper.  I love how he was able to channel your thoughts and relate the facts in a way to Edward  that made sense.  Hell, by the time he was done my rose colored glasses were back on and I was shoutin' a few hallelujahs with the chorus.

Please be gentle with Edward between now and the next chapter.  Talk to Bella if necessary.  In the meantime I'll be chanting..................

Sandra

Author's Response:

I think his reaction was understandable.  The functional equivalent of Bella’s collapse in the woods.  But his family helped him pull it together and now he’s ready for the fight.  You're right - folks forget that these are just kids.  In perfect circumstances, this situation would be nearly impossible to deal with...

Oh Pomme, we are seeing a much more positive atmosphere.  I know that Bella and Edward are not "there" yet but we are seeing more trust on Bella's part as Edward tries so hard to earn it. Why his desire to be a good father has to worth a few gold stars right.

I always likew Carlisle's pov because he is always ready with sound advice, the voice of reason and he is non judgemental.  I love the way he treats Bella as one of his own with gentle guidance and mild humor, ie the girl time with Alice and Rosalie.

Alice and her schedule made me giggle.  I really enjoyed your youthful portrayal of her and encouraged her organizational skills.

We know that Bella was abandoned at the beginning of the story and we've watched her become stronger with each passing chapter.  She has dealt with more than any one person should ever have to deal with and little by little we have watched her heal.  You know we do not have much time left before the complete story is told.  I guess I want to know that Edward, too, is going to find peace of mind before it is all said and done.

And with that said I join my fellow readers in vigil for the next chapter.....

Sandra

Author's Response:

I love writing Carlisle.  He is so perceptive and compassionate.  I am glad you like the portrayals here.

Yes, most definitely, Daddyward finds his peace in one final moment in the story.  It's subtle, but I think that it screams volumes.

He'll definitely have his due in the epilogue.

Such a bittersweet moment to know that just eplogues from now that the story will be over.  But not forgotten.  No never forgotten.

The birthday celebration was so real it was as if I was there joining in the festivities.  And it was so fitting that Angela and Ben would be a part of this family celebration.  Speaking of family, I loved seeing the effect the story had on family members as seen thru Alice's eyes.  And the gifts from the family were so perfect.

And just so you know I would have been perfectly happy had the story ended here.  EEEEEEEE!  More epilogues is icing on an already perfect cake.

My dear Pomme, I like to think of it as never confused but rather always pleasantly surprised.

Their first time was certainly sweet.  Very careful and loving.  Very beautiful.  Edward didn't stand a chance.
