All he wants while filming the sequels is to be able to recapture some of that and be able to enjoy playing music again without getting mobbed by media and fans. A chance letter provides him with both an opportunity and something he wasn't looking for.
Dr. Lynn Jones is a successful forensic scientist who's navigated the media minefield in the past in her profession, but never on a personal level. Her letter offers to save him, but the price might be higher than she is willing to pay.
