It is amazing how quickly life can resume normalcy after a traumatic event.  It's not that the inhabitants of the scenario don't know they are rebounding, but the force of the universe pulls them back into its patterns without their consent.  Everything will not be the same, but the normal routine is enhanced, flavored by the bittersweet taste of change or loss in any form.

Bella told me she had once envisioned our lives as the complex pattern of a rug, the colors and textures intermingling, each individual but, when placed together, producing a beautiful creation.  If challenged, I would have most likely used a musical analogy.  I would have compared our lives to experiencing a musical performance by one of the masters. 

Beethoven...Bach...or if you wanted a little strife, Wagner.  Most at one time or another had performed their masterpieces within European chapels.  I could envision the rise and fall of the notes, as they would weave their spell.  The light in the building as it filtered through stained glass, creating a dizzying array of colors. The smell from beeswax candles permeating the room.  Modern musical halls lacked this perfect simplicity.  Yes...this would have been my analogy.

Little was I to know that Fate had much in store for me.  Before she was through with me, I would barely resemble the boy I'd been...

What happens to the Cullens after the Volturi left. Edward and Bella begin life together and face both heartbreak after their lives are irrevocably changed by losses of family and friends, and immeasurable joy as the events of their lives unfold.

I know what Bella wants.  And, even though I know it means nothing to her... God help me, I want to give it to her. I thirst for her body almost as much as I thirst for her heart. It is undeniable; I want all of her. But I will hold onto this small piece of her if this is all she is willing to give.

This story recognizes canon up to the battle with the newborns in Eclipse, veering into AU territory shortly thereafter. Though Riley is destroyed, Victoria escapes, causing a chain of unexpected events. (Jacob is not injured during the fight and there is no appearance by Bree or the Volturi at the end of the battle in this universe.) Chapters will alternate between Bella, Jacob, Edward, and OC's POVs. Please note that though some actions may be bit OOC, it is only to allow for further character development.

The Volturi, angered by Victoria's actions, have placed a bounty on her head, attracting a mysterious tracker. Intrigued by the human with the impenetrable mind, the stranger discovers that there is more to Bella than her apparent ability to shield. What happens when situations arise that cause Bella to truly evaluate her feelings for both Edward and Jacob? How will Bella’s true abilities begin to manifest themselves and what will the Volturi have to say about the matter? Could what she discovers bring her closer to happiness or will it threaten to destroy everything?

"Let her go, Rose," I said, my voice deadly.  She just stared back at me grimly. I searched her mind, trying to get a hold of her plans.  There was a resolve, a plan to protect the baby at all costs.  And an aching desire she couldn't hide to have that baby as her own....

Her face was so deathly still, no response.  She was unearthly pale, and there was the slightest blue tinge to her skin, the sky pale at dawn.  As I pressed my lips to hers, they were too cool.  I blew in gently twice, watching her chest rise and fall mechanically. I moved my mouth to her ear as my hands began to move again.

"Come on, Bella, love," I whispered.  "Come on, sweetheart.  I'm right here.  You did it. You've got a healthy baby. She's so beautiful. You were strong enough.  Now it's time for you to come back.  She's waiting.  I'm waiting, love.  I'm waiting for you, always...

AU Post-New Moon.

Bella never jumped, Alice never had her vision and Edward never came back. Six years later, Bella is struggling to make a new life for herself as a teacher in Rochester, New York. How will she fare when a very familiar student crops up in her classroom? Will she be able to remain professional, or will old ties get in the way?
