Oh - very interesting! Poor Edward though! I would write a more detailed review but it's bedtime and my brain isn't functioning properly, so I'll just leave it as: great chapter! :)
Author's Response: Thank you muchly for the read and review, and apologies for the ridiculously delayed response. Glad you're liking it. :)

I just discovered this story, and it quickly became one of my favorites. You can now consider me part of your cheer squad encouraging you to keep on writing. And this last chapter! I was called back in real life right as Demetri was tempting Edward and had to spend about 5 hours not knowing what was going to happen. I was so relieved that Fletcher pushed Edward aside. I know eventually Edward will kill a human, but I desperately didn't want it to happen like this. Great work!
Author's Response: Thank you for reading and reviewing. It's always fantastic to hear from a new reader, and my apologies for the shamefully delayed response. I'm happy you like the story, and hope you continue to enjoy.

THANK YOU for updating. Your writing is thoughtful and thorough. Your depiction of Edward is perfect. Trin.
Author's Response: And thank you so much for the comments. I'm especially glad to hear that dear Edward is coming across so vividly to you.

I'm still freaked out (several chapters later) over Fletcher being a carbon copy of Edward, worried that the Volturi are planning some weird switcharoo...but Fletcher isn't Edward and this chapter confirms that. Carlisle will always be able to tell them apart.
Author's Response: *lol*
It tickles me to know that Fletcher's copy of Edward freaked you out.
Sorry for the (ridiculously) delayed response. Glad you're getting into this part of the story. :)

Another great chapter, love... poor Edward - I was so scared that he was going to cave in to the thirst. I know he is angry with Fletcher right now but when he comes to his senses I'm sure he will hate what he almost did. I hate that Demitri did that to him. I hope Carlisle is holding his own with Chelsea... can't wait to see what happens next!
Author's Response: Sorry for the delayed response, m'dear. Thank you for the review, though. :) I appreciate it muchly.
Demetri really is a devious so-and-so, isn't he?

I'm thourghly confused now, what's up with Fletcher? Anyway, keep going, very enthralling story.
Author's Response: Thank you for dropping me a line, and I'm sorry not to have replied until now. Fletcher's resolution will come soon.

Really enjoying your characterisation and attention to detail e.g. potatoes! I love the fact that you have Edward beginning on his journey through reflecting on Carlisle's. x

I wish someone would give me an island! Esme's a lucky girl - either that or Carlisle is just too generous for his own good. I'm interested to see where you take this. Great start. x

Sorry it took me a while to get to read this update (well, this and the chapter before actually). I think this is such an interesting story and I am really enjoying this section where Edward realizes he WANTS to be with Carlisle. I had not realized that Chelsea was working Carlisle over until Edward realized it. Can't wait to see what the next part of the chapter brings! :)

I have just read Essay33's review and your response.
Wow.
This story is just too amazing for words. I feel so sorry for Fletcher. And yet how perfectly you have crafted the pitfall of his gift. Is it not indeed the hazard that all thespians face - a subsuming or even loss of native identity to the various roles they play on and off the stage? Now writ large and deep as a vampire trait. How utterly tragic. Perhaps it would be a mercy for his life to end? I don't even know what to think.
God this story just owns me eight ways to Sunday.

Ah! Like Edward, it never occurred to me that Chelsea would be concentrating hardest on Carlisle, but of course she is! How obvious now that Carlisle's is the stronger attachment at the moment, but I am hoping this ordeal, and what an ordeal it is!, strengthens it to where they truly are like father and son.
I really appreciated understanding the specifics of Chelsea's gift. And it was frightening to think how powerful it is when she and her "victim" are in the presence of the triad.
I am so saddened by Carlisle's struggle, delighted with how you describe it Edward's mind, and impressed by Carlisle's strength!
I hope you take us through the hunt! That will be fascinating.
One question - why does Fletcher remain in Edward's form? It's a little weird, but I am sure there is a reason that I can't think of!
It has always bugged me a little that the Volturi appreciate human literature, music, art, etc. - but still regard humans as food products. It was amazing to me when earlier you had spoken of Carlisle as an artist. I had always thought it so hypocritical of the Volturi since I had never heard of a vampire who was personally involved in the arts and sciences until Edward and Carlisle. Until now. I am so glad that you addressed this in your story and hope there will be more!
Thank you for another rich and wonderful chapter!

I grew very curious when I came to know what Carlisle was saying about Chelsea not applying all of her power upon them.
I just love the way you describe so much about the surroundings in a few lines.
You describe such a small place with such different views like when Demetri and Edward came back, then when Edward was lying on carpet with Chelsea, and this portion here, using few words to describe such a beautiful scene.
Twilight was dwindling away now, a mere purplish glow filtering through birch and pine. A few brave crickets had taken up nearby and were chirping hesitantly.
You really play with words, you manipulate them so beautifully that I think I get all your scenes easily, I can really imagine them the way you would have.
I just don’t completely get why Carlisle never warns Edward about Chelsea since the three of them came, even because of his reasons, he could easily have explained his reasons via his thoughts when he finally told edward about chelsea's power clearly. Think the story ahead will reveal all this.
I was just as Edward was hoping to keeo hearing Carlisle’s paradise lost!
I really hope that carlisle is not on the verge of hating edward when they get back from hunt.
I just can't wait to read what happens further in story.
To your previous reply to my review, I don’t think that you over think this story at all, in fact you think it the way everyone finds it satisfying to. And thank you for sharing your views with me.

Each chapter of this tale is worth the wait.
I've wondered how Chelsea's gift would actually work--what the effect of it would really be like--and you've answered that neatly. I particularly like the way you've depicted Edward's self-centered perspective followed by a sudden awareness of Carlisle's suffering.
Fletcher's petulant brattiness suggests to me that he's emulating Edward in more than just physical form perhaps? The very things about him that grate on Edward are traits Edward himself possesses in some measure.
Author's Response: "Fletcher's petulant brattiness suggests to me that he's emulating Edward in more than just physical form perhaps? The very things about him that grate on Edward are traits Edward himself possesses in some measure."
Holy *expletive*! Circumstances in the story being what they are, Fletcher's reactions could be construed as incidental, so I honestly didn't think anyone would pick up on that. I wasn't planning on bringing Fletcher's emulation of Edward up in the narrative, either. Since you discovered it, though (and of course it would be you ;) ), I'll elaborate here.
Fletcher's talent is far more extensive than he knows; a significant part of it is untapped, and would remain so if his abilities were only ever employed strategically, to infiltrate. One of the firsts he's experiencing is spending time around somebody after he's copied them. The others were killed either before, or right after, he transformed into them. He's been around Edward for a whole day, though, and since mimicry is like breathing to him (he's never been completely himself- he doesn't even know what that is), he's unconsciously adopting little personality traits, especially the traits that are going to bait revealing reactions from his subject. Now, if he were to spend quite a while longer in Edward's company, remaining in his form, he'd eventually become just like him; he would become Edward. The only difference would be the lack of mind-reading. Fletcher can't acquire a gift like that, but he would develop Edward's pre-vamp level of insight, and whatever personality changes Edward himself undergoes because of the mind-reading. Fletcher's abilities become more powerful the longer he studies his "character," unconscious as that studying may be. The physical transformation is merely a costume change.
So you get buckets of gold stars and cookies. Homemade cookies, even. With real butter.

I completely didn't catch on to what Chelsea was doing to Carlilse until Edward did.
I can't wait for the next chapter :)
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad that the mystery was preserved, but look out... there's more manipulations ahead. *cackle*
