Slow and steady wins the race. I think one of the reasons I like this story so much is that you haven't set up a big drama and then rushed me through it to wrap it up in a bow. It is mature and seems thought out. Good job. Looking forward to the next chapter.

There is a road to being fine and it comes at the end of that journey step by step there are no short cuts.

First it must be said that I strongly admire your dedication to your fanfic. There're few authors posting new updates so regularly and often. Then, the story is one of the slowest progressing ones as well. (I was going to write "filler" before I read your AN.) There's much in there that could be edited out for both improving the story's natural flow and ensuring the reader's interest. I agree Edward and Bella are far from any lemons to come, but the plot has almost disappeared at this point, or so it seems.
Also, Edward's character is almost exactly like Bella's (i.e. too girly). They react the same way, think (mostly) the same way... The only difference is that Edward is angrier and uses expletives. What I'm trying to say is that you have (perhaps naturally) approached his situation and problems as a sensitive female, and I could very well imagine you as your comforting Bella. The problem is that I could imagine you as Edward just as easily...
Another pet peeve of mine is your constant use of "deep down". It's not a great expression in the first place, since it's too much of a shortcut for my tastes, but you have used it exactly 56 times in this story. And yes, I checked.
I have enjoyed your Loner greatly - or at least the first half of it. If your style stays the same I'll propably skim later chapters, too. Though I'll keep hoping for some changes...
Author's Response: I know I can't please everyone, and to be honest, I'm not trying to. I just want to tell my story the way I want it to be told. I know what I want with it, and I'm sticking to it. I won't change anything about my writing style, and if that makes me lose readers, well, it makes me sad, but I will just have to live with it. I knew from the start that this fic wouldn't be for everyone. As for my use of the expression 'deep down', there will most likely be more (feel free to keep counting), even though I could try to keep it down a bit. Didn't realize it would bother people so much. That said, I thank you for your honesty, and for sticking with my story so far.

It's good that Bella doesn't coddle Edward all the time. He needs it a lot, but sometimes he needs to be called on his bullshit.

I haven't read any of the reviews and I am surprised people have been asking for lemons - are they following this story? The last thing Edward needs is to force a physical relationship, it would finish him and them as a couple. I would hate something so clearly outside the realms of reality for this story at the moment. He is clearly about to have another set back, and therapy has not got to any positive place for him yet, so I'm glad you are sticking with what is right for the story. I have followed your story from the beginning and it would break my heart if it didn't stay true to itself after all this work and time. Love your writing, thanks for the story

I love reading this story and I appreciate your author's note as well. I love lemons as much as the next reader but to rush into them in your story would be entirely unrealistic. I am a nurse who has worked with people who have suffered from sexual abuse and your statement is correct about viewing sex as a difficult obstacle to deal with. The depth and intensity in which your story is laid out is right on! Keep it up!!

I so hope that they can work it out.

Edward is far from fine - my heart breaks for him! I'm sure he just wants everything normal! I loved your authors note about writing lemons (even Bella sounded like she wanted you to write one in the last chapter)! I think it is great that you are being authentic to the story and doing it your way! I hope this story never ends ... I love it!

I wanted to give you some encouragement. I've NEVER thought any of the chapters were fillers - - they all seem to have a point towards the storyline IMHO. The story is unfolding slowly, but that's ok with me - - it just means I get to enjoy it longer and its more fully developed and richer. Its a very original and well written story!
As far as lemons go - come on folks!! Totally inappropriate here!! Edward is not even close to being there. He HAS to deal with his past before he can comfortably go there. And when (and if) it happens then its going to be a beautiful thing. But not until its time!!
Thanks again for a touching & wonderfully written story!!!

Yet another great chapter... I like that they are together at the session... They have a long road ahead... I hope that they will make it through...

great chapter. i'm glad edward is trying to start the healing process. i believe good things will come from him realizing that talking and trying to open up will help him in the long run.

Oh no! I see a major blow-up in Edward's future. He is trying to put up an "I'm fine" front and not deal with his past.
Now he is putting on the front for Bella - to be what he thinks she wants. I wonder if Bella will be able to help him when he finally falls apart.
Maybe Bella should talk about her Phoenix trip and the things she is dealing with, including Jake, this could get Edward to open up.
I don't know - I just love these two and really want Edward to take the help that Angela is there to give.

Hmmm, I don't know if Edward's attitude for those sessions is that good :p
love your story :)

ok, first review for the whole story until now.
It's kind of gross to say I really like it, because of the issues which are dealt with in this story, but nevertheless I absolutely like your story. Your style is fluent and realistic, even your short chapters come along.
Almost every chapter deals with so much emotions and information, so I don't think there would be any advantage of longer chapters, the deeper I get into this story the more I really need the breaks to progress all of this. In my opinion, your pace is very adequate, you are absolutely right to take your time, everything else would suck.
the end of this chapter somehow suprised me. Edward is obviously not honest about how he 'is' and even in case he wants everything to be fine I was really taken aback when he made Bella to believe him when he says he's fine. somehow it feels like he (ab)uses her trust and willingness to sacrifice her every self. so I'm really curious about how this session will end.
I apologize for my (lack of) English unfortunately it's not my native tongue, hope you like my review nevertheless and keep on your high bar of quality writing.
best wishes chaoz
p.s. I absolutly appreciate and support your note about the Lemons in the Chapters Note, nothing to add ;)

I don't care how long this story is. It can't be sunshine and roses for Edward overnight. That would be avoidance in it's highest form if that happened. There's so much he has to work through, but he has to face the memories head on first in order to heal. And given his gross abuse, I am sure even when he's older and has a better handle on himself, there will be the stray thought or memory that he will have to deal with. He needs the tools now so that he can deal with those kinds of moments. The poor guy can't even get an erection without seeing it as some form of punishment. I absolutely don't want to see a lemon because it would not be true to this story. Edward is not emotionally capable of that type of intimacy right now anyway. With respect to this chapter, Edward wants so hard to be normal, but he can't do that by skimming over the memories of the pain of his past.

Quite a lot going on in Bella's mind -and she is right of course, Edward's hasn't completely reacted to Victoria's revelation. He also will need to decide if he wants to know more.
It was nice of Emmett and Rosalie to ask Bella and Edward to join them on a dinner out. Edward needs to do more normal things - it will help him in his recovery.
I hope the Jake thing doesn't become an issue.
Can't wait to read the next chapter - RL kept me from finishing this one right away but I saw an update alert in my box so I don't have to wait.

People really want lemons? seriously? I think that would be awkward & maybe eve a little traumatizing. If you ever get to that point in my opinion it should just be suggested not described

Edward is definitely setting himself up for a major breakdown by trying to avoid dealing with his feelings and reactions to Victoria Masen's confession. I worry that Bella may not be able to handle Edward's outburst when this happens. I love this story and I agree that every chapter is important and this is not a story that can be rushed. I have been under the care of a psychiatrist for 10 years that includes appointments every 3-4weeks for a PTSD from childhood. This type of situation requires slow progress and patience. Reading this story has been an emotional catharsis for me in RL. Thanks! :)

Yeah, that was way better than I expected because it was more realistic than I expected. Even ideally with him feeling better about Bella being there, he's not going to just make leaps and bounds because of her presence. He's still got to fight the same demons.
I appreciate you keeping within the parameters of the characters of the story and not introducing lemons at this point, actually - I love seeing the development of the characters and it's going to make moments between Bella and Edward when they are finally able to be more physical with each other that much better because it will be believable.
Thank you for the update! As always, looking forward to the next...

Oh poor Edward....he is trying to be normal but it is only going to explode in his face if he is not careful. Bella will be there for him regardless she has in the past and she will in the future as well.
I worry about him....he needs to get it out. "I'm fine" just doesn't cut it with him.
About the A/N notes I would think that would be weird for them to do anything sexual at this point. Yes, I cannot wait until they get there.....but I agree with you. I am also glad that you do not do filler chapters. I flove this story and have been reading and following you for awhile. I am not going anywhere.
It updated on this site first, and I just got the e-mail that it updated on FF too. Love it Nilla, no worries here, I will be here until the end.
