Busted! But at least Edward told Bella how he felt (kinda.) But why is Alice calling Bella "Judas Iscariot"? (especially when just "Judas" would get the point across). Does she consider Bella a traitor for loving her brother?
I love how your end AN tells us that Edward and Emmett are Provos more than the actual story did. Although, I had pretty much guessed it...
Regarding the Kevin & Sadie books, they were first published in the 70's (I think). Sadly, they're out of print now. (mores the pity, I'm still looking for a second-hand copy of the last one: Hostages to Fortune)
Can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: haha, "judas iscariot" is just a saying. my mom used to say it all the time; it's better than taking the Lord's name in vain, you know? if you're have to cuss, why not use judas as the expletitive in question? :) so that's alice's little saying. she doesn't think bella's a traitor.
yes, it was pretty apparent what sorts of shenanigans edward/em have gotten themselves into, and more importantly with whom...
too bad about the kevin and sadie books....although i googled them and found them on amazon. (U.S, though). you've looked there?

I can feel Bella's pain when the flat was invaded by the "gang"! But, I guess it's for the best if things can be more out in the open. I wonder just how the sleepover with Alice will go. The Cullen's are probably just as strict as Bella's parents!
Author's Response: yes, that would be pretty mortifying, to have the gang kind of just bust in on you that way! :/ poor thing.
bella's family is a little more strict, but the cullens aren't totally liberal, so...
stay tuned. :)

I never leave reviews (naughty, I know) but this story is too great not to give you due praise. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Author's Response: ah, many thanks, andie! i'm glad you broke your "rule" for me... ;)

Ah, Rochelle! I love your characters. I'll start with Edward. He's adorably cheeky, sexy, tender and honorable. The scene in the Ms. Fiona's candy shop comes alive with your description of Edward's sticky smirk and his fruity breath. Fook Me-- and this isn't even the lemon!!
I also have to mention Alice, who is my favorite character in the Meyer's books. I love how you've developed her character and her adorable sayings, "Judas Iscariot!" and of course, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!". She's a good girl and I appreciate the way she steps wide for Bella and Edward. Not every sibling can be as understanding as she to the budding relationship between her brother and best friend.
Lastly, I want to say that this chapter reminds me of an innocent age and coming of age against a volatile background of revolutions and uprisings. I'm so excited about this fic, it's ridiculous.
Once again, thank you for posting.

Author's Response: thank you, sweetheart! you leave me the *most* delightful reviews, i swear! i always have such a grin a si read. really all the reviews are wonderful. but, i appreciate that you're so specific about the aspects of each chapter you liked best.
yeah... the boys i was most attracted to in highschool were like this edward..cheeky and sexy and flirty...and very cocky. ;) he's a good guy, though, as you pointed out....he's honorable.
as for alice: in canon, even though she's described as energetic and sort of stubborn, i never got the sense that she was excessively perky. i mean, she was a positive force, but, there was - and is- so much more to her. i try not to paint any of the characters into stereotypes. they're multifaceted (hopefully), like we are.
you being excited about this fic makes ME excited. squee! thanks for all the lovin' words! <3

I must admit I have read up to Chapter 15 of this story on FF.net and think I can honestly say this this is one of my favourite Twilight FF stories of all time so far (and I have read a lot!).
I think the storyline is so different from the norm, yet your Bella and Edward still share a lot of the traits from the characters that SM created.
On a personal note this story is quite close to home as my husband is in the British Armed Forces and we were indeed posted to NI in 2004 for 4 years; our daughter was born in Antrim so has both a British and Irish passport. I love reading about places I know and have visited that you mention in the story, and the history and political side of NI that since living there I have always had a keen interest in.
Hope you update the story on FF.net soon, I must admit to obsessively checking it 2 or 3 times a day!
Author's Response: oh wow, thank you so much! what a kind, sweet review! yeah, i have 15 chapters posted on ff.net; i've been posting here every 5 days or so. the story has gotten a pretty good response both here and at ff.net, and it's a great feeling to know that i connect with so many people this way. "volition" is like my baby now; i adore writing and i feel good when people enjoy what i post.
my mom is from cork, ireland, and i have a lot of family and friends that still live in ireland, or who did but now live in the U.S. after doing so much reading and research for "volition" (as well as harrassing my loved ones for details, haha!) i am obsessed with going to belfast now. i NEED to go myself, you know?
there's a thread on the twi'd forums; there is some discussion and a lot of pictures...
anyway, thanks for the love!

p.s ch 16 is mostly done, and will be posted tomorrow night. <3

Bella is on that precarious brink between blissful naivety and full on knowledge of what is happening around her country and with her family and friends. Everyone who loves her is trying to protect her from the loss of innocence that comes with reality. She is pushing hard to know, but once she does, she'll long for more carefree days! I'm enjoying the story and the flow that you have here, can't wait for more!
Author's Response: yes, so true. while bella has always been aware of the Troubles - she did grow up in Belfast after all and has seen some pretty dramatic things - she is also a normal teenage girl (well, about to be 20). when you're used to a certain situation, anything can seem normal, and bella's parents have done a good job of buffering her from the horrors of the time. needless to say, haiving both a brother and a boyfriend involved changes things...

Great chapter! You make it so easy to get sucked into the world and care for the characters and their struggles.
I have a question, and strangely enough, it's about the bit and the end, what Charlie said about separating the neighbourhoods. Is that when the Catholics were separated from the Protestants, so that there was a Catholic part of Belfast and a Protestant part of Belfast, and a "No Man's Land" in between? (more knowledge I got from the Kevin and Sadie books).
Can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: hey alli :)
first of all, thank you. i'm glad you feel you're invested in the characters and their story... my favorite stories (whether fic or published) tend to be that way. if i am rooting for the character, i will likely love the plot.
second, yes; neighborhoods were basically divided up to keep Protestants and Catholics separate, and usually divided by (ironically) "peace lines" (walls/barriers). if you check out Volition's thread here on the Twi'd forums, i believe i have a photo or two that show peace lines. i am not sure about the "no man's land", although it certainly sounds very likely. i know some neighborhoods were considered "flash points", very volatile areas where P's and C's lived close enough together that rioting often broke out...
sounds like i'll have to check out thse kevin and sadie books!

I am such a Volition fangirl! The plot is so engaging and your characters are so real, sometimes gritty. I love how you pepper your chapters with select canon quotes.
Edward chuckled and shook his head, examining his jeans. “You’re not going to let this go, are ya?”
“No.”
He shot me a sideways glance. “Then I hope you enjoy disappointment.” He looked back at the blank screen, discussion over.
Looking forward to all of your posts to Twilighted. Your story deserves a lot of good buzz.

Author's Response: your review put the biggest grin on my face; thank you, soooo much!! :)
yes... some of the cannon quotes are just too juicy/appropriate/fitting to resist. there are parallels between this edward and vamp!ward, if you think about it: both are dangerous, both think they're no good for bella, both have secrets bella is dtermined to uncover, (both are yummy... ooooh.) ;p

Why did she not question Edward about the blonde girl?
Author's Response: which blonde girl, rose? rose is with emmett - bella's brother. bella is with edward. she didn't really have cause to question edward about rose...
is that who you meant?

Good story BUT the Irish Republican Army (IRA) weren't a bunch of rebels FFS they were cold-blooded terrorists. My husband's brother was shot in the head by an IRA sniper.
The IRA is still an illegal terrorist organisation in the UK.
Author's Response: yes, i am aware of this. i am also very, very sorry to hear of your husband's brother.
the purpose of "volition" is not to glorify the actions and behavior the IRA (nor those of the British army, or the official Irish forces, or the loyalist paramilitary organzations like the UVF and the UFF). war, conflict and revolt are a dirty business and way too many lose their lives. no one ever wins, really. i have spoken to people on both "sides" who have equally horrifying things to say about the "other" side...
this is just a story, mainly a love story, with The Troubles serving as a very volatile backdrop. bella is quite conflicted about the actions of the people she loves (and frankly, so am i).
i am always, always available for further correspondence, constructive criticism, or even just chatting. ;) thank you for reading and letting me know what you thought - i love that!

Please tell me that Edward carrying on with Victoria is related to whatever he and Emmett have gotten into, and not a serious thing? Please!? Bella has a right to be pissed, but still... she and Edward have to mean something!
Can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: you soon shall see. :) and yes, what she and edward did, and what they have, definitely means something...

Ah!! To be so young and in love! Unfortunately, ruminating suspicion and jealousy are often neighbors to that rosey feeling.
I'm thoroughly enjoying myself here. Volition proves to be an engaging read.

Author's Response: ain't that the truth. it's an age where every emotion, every detail is so magnified...

That Edward is not one for too much conversation, is he? It seems as though he just believes he and Bella are on the same wavelength. Bella, however, is not nearly as confident. I mean he did declare that she, in fact, was in love with him! Can't wait to see how Bella reacts next time she sees him!
Author's Response: yes. ;) he assumes that because they have known one another for so long, they automatically "get" each other. that - and he's cocky.
which is my thing, i can't help it, haha!

This is a beautiful story!! I am blown away with your original plot and ability to paint characters. I can definitely see why others would encourage you to take this fic and make it into a multi-chapter story. There is so much potential here, it's outstanding!
I read your summary and was thinking, "Is this going to be like In The Name of the Father". However, this is not the case. Bella's POV makes this special and unique. I love hearing your characters talk. I feel as though I can really hear their voices and their brogues in your writing. Thank you for sharing your story. I look forward to future posts from you.
- Jen aka effleurage
Author's Response: Wow, what a great review - thanks so much! The story has become pretty dear to my heart, so, I appreciate the kind words. I haven't seen "In the Name of the Father" in years; I ought to go rent it again. :)
Also, I'm glad the accents are authentic; often when I'm writing the dialogue I read it aloud to make sure it comes across properly. I don't want it to sound like a lucky charms commercial, haha!

Awe this is an impossibly cute story so far. I can't wait to see what exactly is going to be the result of their activities. Please update soon. It's been a while since I've read such a well written fic like this.
Author's Response: What a kind thing to say; I appreciate that! I am about to submit chapter 2 to my Twilighted beta, so, as soon as she's done, it will be up. Thanks so much!

This is an interesting concept. Now are Edward and Emmett regular IRA or Provos? (I'm not passing judgement either way, I'm just curious; despite my Irish ancestry and interest in the subject, my only knowledge of this comes from films like In the Name of the Father, and the Kevin and Sadie series of books by Joan Lingard--which I love).
I can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: Ha! Very perceptive question, and you'll soon see (in about...2 chapters). ;)
My mom is from Ireland, so I'm loving the research that's been going into this story. It's a fascinating, and somehow addictive topic.

I'm speechless! I loved it! I want more! Just, wow!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! Funny thing is, I didn't even realized I'd gotten reviews until I checked in just now. So you can imagine my (pleasant) surprise...
There is plenty more to come, I'm glad you like it so far. ;)
