There's nothing wrong with this story. Nothing inappropriate at all. Don't worry about it and just write the story that's in your head.
If someone doesn't want to read it based on what they think is happening, it's their loss, not yours.

I was the new girl in school many years ago it's the pits. Your Bella is a strong person who had to many bad things happen in her life but she will make it. I learned long ago that people come in all sizes and some look a little different, but it is who is inside that counts not the outside shell. If we only spoke to people who were well dressed or pretty we would miss out on a lot of really wonderful people. Life is about taking chances and to reallly live you must take a few. Love your story.
