maybe Renee was pregnant, didn't tell Charlie and put Bella up for adoption? That still doesn't explain what happened to her, but might at least explain her link to Charlie. who the hell knows.
and that had to be Edward speaking up at the end. At least, it better be!

so my guess is that Bella is Renee and Charlies child but Renee never told Charlie about her, although I am confused about how Bella ended up back in Forks in the woods.

I hope it was Edward. Maybe feeling jealousy would wake him up. But I bet that if this is the case Bella will be mad, because after not talking to her in so long, saying things like this, as if he has any say would be totally out of his place.

I don't understand why Bella is unwilling to contact the police. Or to explore the world beyond the Cullen's home, on her own. And I don't understand why she feels she must choose between having the Cullens as her "family" and getting involved in the world outside.
Other than that, I'm still enjoying this a lot. I'm glad I came late to it, and can read so much of it at once.
Author's Response: She's feeling very vulnerable and looking for a way to gather herself before going out into the other world. She's lost all she had and she doesn't have any clue how to regain it. Not going to the police... well, she's not even sure why she can't. There's just something there.

In the books, I found Bella's inabiity to stand up to Alice annoying, and I feel the same way here. Why does she say she has no choice? What is Alice going to do if Bella doesn't do as Alice wants, other than pout? And why do these adults allow Alice to manipulate them with her "puppy eyes?" I find it very irritating!
Author's Response: Bella is very overwhelmed. I've had friends like that, people who leave you feeling lost in their wake. They're such powerful personalities that even though you would normally fight, they just bowl you over.
