WOW! Totally intrigued about this.Looking forward to see where you take this.

An update, yey!!! Lovely chapter. I get a little bit discouraged with the usual portrayal of Emmet. He comes across as a bit of a shallow person. He has become a caricature of himself. I am glad to see that you have given him his due worth. He is straightforward and open but that doesn't mean there is no depth to him. I agree with the way you describe him: loving, honest, caring, perceptive and VERY smart.
Author's Response: Since in the books many of the secondary characters are drawn with a few characteristics and not necessarily developed, I think it DOES become easy to turn them into caricatures. The few characteristics get OVERstressed, and writers don't necessarily think about what's underneath that. :-) Emmett can easily suffer from that, but I didn't get the feeling in the book he was stupid, just blunt. I'm glad you like how I've read him!

WOW, so she's really going to look at those emails.....I'm preparing for the drama. I hope it doesn't put Bella and Edward back a step. I must say, now that I have read all of the validated chapters, that you have crafted a believable Twilight world, that leaves me breathless with anticipation, and with overwhelming eagerness for more. You write the characters as in depth as SM would do and I appauld you. Well done on such on such a fantastic story and I will be coming back for more!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you've enjoyed the ride! The letters won't be drama, quite, but Bella will learn a few things. She and Edward will finally be able to interact without walls. I hope to have more up soon, although we'll see. :-)

YAY! So Eddies involved in the Shelter, I love that! I love the verbal sparring between Bella and Edward, and on this one, and only this one, I think I'm betting on Alice. Is it wrong for me to want a happy ending?
Author's Response: Nope, not wrong at all. And as I promise readers, the story *is* E/B, even if it might be taking a long time to get there!

Edward is right outside, and he smiles at Bella. She smiles back. Once again, Esme is struck by that elusive something. Despite all that Bella has been through -- some of which Edward put her through -- and all that Edward has suffered as a result, they can smile at each other with a heart-stopping sweetness. Bella is here and Edward is happy, and Bella looks like she might one day remember what happiness is, too. Esme wants to howl, even as she wants to crow in triumph because Edward has waited, and done what he thought best for Bella and now -- finally -- he might be rewarded for his selfless patience. She desires it as much as she dreads it.
"Yes," she says now, and it isn't Esme Cullen speaking, or Esme Platt. It is Esme Evenson, battered wife. Battered wife who left. "Yes, I will help." Poor Esme, Im so glad she left her jackass of a husband, how dare he do that to mama Cullen. *sigh* It made me cry again, you have a bad habit of doing that *glares* LOL On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: I think Esme is a very interesting character, and I really enjoyed the chance to get into her head a little here, try to get at what makes her tick.

"But they're family," Emmett says and looks back at us over his shoulder. Bella thinks he might elaborate, but he doesn't, and she realizes that -- for Emmett -- there is explanation enough in those three words. The way you are writing these characters, especially Rose and Emmett aswell, make me want to cry! Emmett's story made me teary and just the way he unconditionally loves Rosalie and even Bella. Emmett although he may not appear it is a true gentleman, his dimples make me ache. Really LOL. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: I love Emmett. I think he has a very pure heart, even if it might not always seem as pure as, say, Carlisle.

Brows up, Alice looks ready to laugh. "Edward told you that?" Bella nods and now Alice does laugh. "He has a bad habit of generalizing his tendencies to other people. Edward is stubborn and fixed in his ideas. Of course vampires change, Bella. We don't change as fast as you, and sometimes we can get . . . stuck in a rut, or even caught by time -- caught in time, if you will. The world . . . it moves very fast for us." Alice's gold eyes grow distant. "It becomes easy to . . . slip outside time -- even more for nomads, but for us too. Sometimes I find myself struggling to remember who the president is, or whether this or that event happened last week or ten years ago. It's not that we forget; it's just that there is so much to remember. The world is very different now than what it was when I woke up to being a vampire." You call him out Alice LOL! Rose seems amused by Bella's beached-fished imitation. "Why would I care? You weren't with us long enough to hear my story, were you? Why I was turned?" Bella shakes her head. "I was gang-raped and dying in a Rochester alley when Carlisle found me." This is offered matter-of-factly in a voice devoid of self-pity. "It's taken me almost eighty years to figure out it's time to stop being angry at the world and blaming fate. My assailants are long dead but there are a million more out there just like them." Her yellow eyes narrow. "I plan to kick the hell back and start taking names. Are you with me?"
Dumbly, Bella nods and Rose holds out a hand. Bella takes it; Rose's grip is cold and firm. "This isn't precisely how it's done," Rose says. "I should draw up a contract with a job description, salary, and duties first, but -- you're hired." Rose's story always makes me cry, god how awful it must of been for her, if she were real, she would be an inspiration to all women. Thank god she found Emmett, with his dimples and curls. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Rose's story interrests me a great deal. :-)

Alice is already at the door and has it open even as she flings herself into Emmett's waiting embrace. They're both laughing. Edward thinks Alice, at least, might be crying, too, if she were able. "You did come!"
Rose shoves at her husband lightly and slips past. "Move, you big ox." She's met by Esme in an equally enthusiastic embrace, and even Jasper steps in to hug her. Only Edward hasn't moved from where he's standing, staring, mouth agape. Rose pulls away from Jasper and turns her eyes his way even as Alice -- finally -- releases Emmett and let's Esme and Jasper in. "So," Rosalie says. "I hear you finally found the balls to talk to Bella. It's about damn time." YAY! My Rose is here, and Emmett too!
Author's Response: :-) Rose has a major part to play in the story, as you'll no doubt see.

See I wrote a lovely review but the site went down! Booo, glad to see Edward has explained it to her, and I'm just wondering if this story is going the way I'm hoping, will she be changed? Although I do realise why if she doesn't. I hope the venom can overcome the paralysis, as it did in BD after Bella's spine snaped.
Author's Response: Yeah, the site went down on me, too, when I was replying to a review! Very frustrating!

i don't get the banner why are they all the cullen girls?
Author's Response: The banner was made for me. :-) The story is about the Cullen women as much as it's about Edward and Bella, as you'll see. It's this project that the four of them hatch (and the men mostly help with).

"The proverbial fit hit shan, she's trying to say," Jasper finishes for her. "Everything came unglued. Emmett and Rosalie eventually left to live on their own -- probably permanently. Carlisle felt horrible for not standing up to Edward, and he and Esme had several rows about it -- which turned into rows about them being 'parents' . . . which turned into rows about Carlisle's choices in even starting the family in the first place. Carlisle moved out, although none of us think that's permanent. He and Esme just need some space right now."
Bella knows her jaw is hanging open, but she's too stunned to speak.
"Esme and Edward still share a house in Helen, pretending to be siblings," Alice says. "Carlisle has been working in Africa for the past six years. Jasper and I . . . we stay in touch with all of them, but we've been living in our Minnesota house, the same one we had when Jasper worked at St. Olaf, ironically enough."
"I . . . the family broke up because of me?"
"No!" Alice says. "Heavens, no, Bella!" Emerald_Rosalie <------ SPEECHLESS. Carlisle and Esme APART? Oh my god. Emmett and Rose living apart from Carlisle and Co. God you have shaken it all up here! I love it! I can't wait for Edwards part of the explanation, he has a lot of sucking up to do. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: LOL! Yes, I actually broke up the family. I think that surprised everybody. ;-) And yes, Edward DOES havea LOT of explaning to do ...

It is a really beautiful story. I like how Bella has grown up and come into her own. But I really want to know what is in the letters!
Author's Response: The part after next will be about the letters! (The next part is Edward's holiday; he hasn't gotten to talk in a while and my Edward!Muse is Very Annoyed <tm>)

"I knew -- we knew -- he was your husband."
Bella's frown has deepened. "You knew." It's not really a question.
"Yes."
There is a moment of silence. Alice can hear Bella's heartbeat. It has sped up slightly. "Just how much did you know -- do you know?"
Alice wiggles on the desk and scoots a few inches closer to Bella. "Don't be angry -- "
"Just answer the damn question!"
"We know pretty much everything," Jasper admits. "And we finally got tired of letting Edward tell us what to do about the knowing." He and Alice await the explosion. It isn't long in coming.
Please don't tell me they knew about Mark dying, because that will just make me mad with Alice. I could never be mad with Jasper, but if Alice knew then that is unforgiveable.
Author's Response: As you'll see, Alice didn't know until it happened. As it was truly an accident, there was never any "decision" that Mark made, so she saw it literally seconds before it occurred.

Alice Cullen stands on the other side, wearing a tentative smile. "Hello, Bella. Long time, no see." She looks, of course, exactly the same as ten years ago, just like her brother had.
Jasper appears behind her, then steps past into Bella's office to offer Bella his hand. "J. A. Whitlock, I presume?" Bella asks, taking it.
He cracks a grin. "You presume correctly, Madam Holmes. Alice said last night you were about to figure it all out, so we decided the hell with it, and came down here to save you the trouble." See? And that is why I LOVE Jasper Whitlock. I adore how you are writing him, I really do think he would do something like that. And Alice, oh my lovely Alice. I'd love her to be the confidant Bella needs in these dark times in her life, I'm excited to read on. Even with puffy eyes, and a tired mind. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Hee! Now Alice *IS* one of my favorites from the books, although part of the fun of writing this story has been the chance to explore some of the characters I didn't think about as much. Truth is, I love ALL the Cullens, and I think each one of them has an interesting and unique story to tell. But Bella does need her buddy.

"His smile was always the first thing you noticed about Mark," said Eliza Marshal, Faith and Hope's chief director for the past fourteen years. "Nothing kept him down for long." *Sobs* Cant. Stop. Crying. So Jazzy paid for Mark's funeral. I love Jasper, he is so underused in most of the book's. He's one of my favourite characters in the Twilight saga, second only to Emmett. I think if Edward hadn't ended up meeting Bella, and if Alice had never of walked into that diner, I think a love story between Jasper and Bella would/could of been beautiful. His story is more of struggle and unhappiness, and I feel Jasper deserves happiness, thank god he has Alice. I'm looking forward to seeing my favourite momma Esme, oh how I adore Esme. Her story is begging to be written, although I think I may have spotted one or two about her on here. Fantastic, I am loving this story more with every chapter I read. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'd never thought that much about Jasper, although I liked him, until I read a story called "Cowboys and Indians." Go look it up if you haven't read it. It's really an amazing Jasper story. (The author is also party to blame for talking me into writing this story, so I don't mind reccing her stuff.) Anyway, yes, Jasper paid for Mark's funeral. :-)

Yet he is a convict unexpectedly released from prison and wild with his freedom, even if his release owes to another man's death. He will mourn for Mark Jackson tomorrow. And he will mourn. It's a hell of a note that he'd actually liked his former girlfriend's now-late husband. But he had. It made things easier and harder at once. So he will mourn for Mark.
But not tonight.
Tonight he drives through the streets of a small north Georgia college town with the woman he loves tucked in the seat behind him. His heart sings. See even though I did like Mark, You gotta love Eddie, 'Edward I'm always here to save you except for the one time you really needed me Cullen'. I'm still a little bitter over her quick forgiveness of him in New Moon. Although my romantic heart does whimper at the idea of Disabled Bella, falling back in love with Edward. I hope she does, shes been through to much to live a life without love. I'm wondering if he will change her? I'd love that. She would have the chance to be whole again, in a way only he could give her. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Edward ... tries. I do see him as sometimes incapacited by his own sense of guilt. It reminds me of something I was once told by a friend when we'd gone out to do some help building a community center in a small Alaskan native village. They were so POOR that a lot of the people felt just awful, and seemed unable to actually get anything done -- too busy either trying to excuse their poverty by saying they'd earned it because their way of life was 'primitive,' OR blaming all white people, etc., and feeling too guilty to do anything. The leader (who was half native) pointed out that there's a BIG difference between regret and guilt. Regret is honest. Guilt is just incapacitating -- and useless. I've always remembered that. :-)

So they let her enter but watch her carefully as if expecting her to go to pieces. After a life that's been a series of tragedies, becoming a widow at 27 is only the most recent. Her spine might be broken, but she's got an iron backbone. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger," Mark had used to say.
Wheeling forward, she leans over to lay her hand on his crossed above his chest. The skin is cold, like the room. His wedding band winks gold under high lights. "I love you . . . " she whispers. She can feel hot tears burn her eyes. God woman, so many tears. So so many. My heart is breaking for her. So Jake has finally imprinted then? Thats good, I'm glad hes still not mooning over Bella, and I'm glad he got on well with Mark. Eloise sounds like a good person, I'm happy Bella has someone she can cry to, and not be alone. On to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, Jacob imprinted. He's happily married with kids. :-) But he and Bella remain (long-distance) friends.

How long did Mark lie there, she wonders, seizing and bleeding inside his head? Was he in pain? Or did he die instantly? Did the dying hurt? Or did he simply pass from awareness of a seizure's onset -- enough awareness to punch the alert button on the wristband he always wore -- down into nothing? Into death?
So Mark's body might be dead. But Mark . . . she knows he's still out there, his spirit. She trusts that. "Help me," she whispers to him, wherever he is. "I'm lost without you." Oh god, really oh god. I don't know how I'm still reading this. The tears are coming thick and fast and I'm still reading, I can't stop. How do you write like this? It's heartbreaking. The relationship with Mark was explained brilliantly and I actually could feel what he meant to Bella. Inter racial relationships are brave thing to write about, as a person who has experienced one myself, I find that you write it truly, as it really is. My heart is aching for her, poor poor Bella. Bella's disability clearly doesn't hinder her abilities, and I think that is brilliant! Time to wipe my eyes and move on to the next chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you! On the interracial relationship. I really did want to try to do it justice. It seems to me that Bella is drawn to "different." I mean, she fell for Edward (vampire), then she almost fell for Jacob (Indian), so it wasn't a big stretch for me to think she could love and marry a black man. But it's never easy, I don't think, and I didn't want to pretend.

Its too bad that she didn't let Edward take her, but it was interesting to hear Emmett's take on things. Also, I got a little choked up when she went to her late husband's grave, it must be hard for her to know she will not be buried next to her husband...maybe she doesn't plan to ever be buried...
Author's Response: Thank you! I think Bella's just not quite ready yet to spend a lot of extended time with Edward with nobody else around. That'll change. :-)
