Well done.  I like your arguments and the mature and adult relationship that Bella and Edward have.  I don't necessarily agree that a mature Bella would have rejected immortality while accepting Edward--after all, her reasons for avoiding vampirehood in this story were reasonably easy to overcome.  To give up your soul mate to death in return for a few extra years with your parents, who will die long before you do anyway--hmmm.  Regardless, your arguments--Bella's and Edwards's thoughts--are very convincing.  Yet you kept their humanity--so to speak--and feeling.  Thank you.

Author's Response:

You're welcome.  I think, here, Bella might have found it easier to move on if Charlie hadn't been alone.  Note that she wasn't that worried about Renee ... mostly Charlie, who'd be alone.  And as he's probably only just 50, if that, he's got another 30 years or so, unless something goes wrong. :-)

But I think that people also tend to CHANGE their minds.  We're rarely set in our decisions, especially once circumstances change, and that's important here.  Real people rarely make such an IMPORTANT decision and NEVER change their mind about it later.  I wanted to show Bella's gradual acceptance of the idea of being a vampire ... but not as a result of rejecting humanity as somehow 'lesser,' which is the message I sometimes got from the books, unfortunately.

Your description of Bella's first meal was very realistic.  She wakes and is thirsty, but when she realizes it was a cow she is dismayed.  I felt sorry for the cow.

It was so emotional when Bella realized she was no longer paralyzed.  Edward's relief was so heartfelt.  She woke, she can walk and she remembers him.  In many ways, he must feel as if the weight of the world has been lifted from his shoulders.

Was it deliberate that Bella's last human act/desire was trying reach water?  Of course her first vampire thought will be thirst, but was it a memory of trying to reach the stream, or was it the actual blood thirst?  I loved the transition of human thirst to vampire thirst.

Author's Response:

It's a little of both, actually.  She died thirsty and she wakes thirsty.  I thought that made sense.  But that IS why she asks for water.  Her last conscious thought was trying to get to the stream to get a drink.

And you BET Edward feels like the weight of the world is off his shoulders.  He's not happy she's a vampire, but he otherwise got what he begged for in his prayer.  It'll make a huge difference to him (and in him).

I cannot thank you enough for sharing this truly amazing story with all of us. I love the strength that each of the women found, and am truly touched by Rosalie's growth. You will probably see your numbers increase after you post the epilogue since I will be re-reading. I find myself hoping that another story finds it way into your heart, and that you feel the need to share it with us. Either way, best of luck with the new school year. I just met the incoming students today and made some connections with them when I mentioned Twilight. If you don't mind, I would love to  hear which story have captured your attention; I mentioned your story to an author who wrote about Bella dealing with depression and anxiety that touched me very much.

Thank you once again. No matter how many more stories I read, I will always remember this one. Sometimes when I get an email telling me that a story has been updated I can barely remember what's been happening; that never happened with Blink.

Author's Response:

Oh, thank you!  And actually, on the Forum, on my thread there (under Alternate Universe) we had somebody ask for some story recs, so we posted several.  It's probably some pages back, for which I apologize since I don't have a handy link, but yeah,  There are a WHOLE bunch over there. :-)

Oh God, I'm so happy she can walk and seems relatively happy.  Yay! What a great chapter.  And his line about her being the vampire equivalent of a toddler made me giggle! =0)

Hello, I have been reading this fanfiction since last October, and while I was a bit of lurker over most of your story, I need to review now to tell tell you how sad I am that it is coming to an end. This has been one of the most poignant and subtley dramatic stories that I've read, fanfiction or otherwise, and I am truly going to miss the non-canon reality you built that honestly felt like canon. The characterizations, themes, and amount of technical knoweldge you weaved into this story made it one of a kind, and I've never seen such passionate emotions written in such an understated manner. It felt more realistic, the bursting emotions of the Twilight characters tempered by a rational mind, but shining through with their individual actions. I am going to sorely miss your writing in this story and the feeling I got whenever I saw an update. Thank you for this story and I am excited to see what you will come out with next :).

Author's Response:

Just a quick thank you for the review!  Even if you don't review often, it's appreciated.

I am sitting here with the biggest idiot grin on my face. But seriously, after that, what else is there to do? This is like Christmas morning!

Wow, Katie!  This chapter was everything I wanted for newborn Bella!  I was hoping this would be Bella's POV and you gave us that!

The disorientation was to be expected, and I think it did help that Edward talked to her so much during the Change.  I nearly sang when Bella "scuttles away on hands and knees."  And the image of Bella and Edward sitting there with her head on his shoulder and she feels "safe" only reminds us of the ordeal she went through.  I wondered if Emmett might have a trailer out back with a couple of deer in it, but the steer was perfect.

I was sad for Bella when she recalled her kidnapping ordeal, and poor Edward for having to think for a few moments that she might have been raped; then of course the doctor in him takes over and tries to reassure her.

You really hit the nail on the head - it is hard to predict how a newborn will react, but Edward was there with her and gave her something to focus on, and I am just thrilled for him that he got her back and that his transplant worked.  "They're beaming at each other."  Yay!

I am still a bit concerned about the Volturi appearance, but after some of the angsty chapters/stories I have read recently, this was a welcome relief.

Thank you for such a great chapter - it was beautiful!

Liz

Great story.  However the cow you described is a Hereford (red with white face).  An Angus is jet black all over.

Thought you'd want to know in the interest of accuracy.

Author's Response:

There is a red Angus!  You find them in N. Georgia in mixed herds.  A few have a whitish face (or maybe lighter face). :-)  The ones with lighter faces may be mixes (I'm not a cow expert!) but I've always heard them called red Angus. :-)

This was a great chapter, I love the time and effort you put into to giving as the image as if we were right there in the store, the sounds the smell. Your description was wonderful.

Can't wait to read the next chapter and wish we did not have to wait so long.

Author's Response:

You may be confusing the next chapter with the epilogue.  The next chapter may be up tomorrow but certainly by Thursday.

I'm speechless.  You have such a gift, bringing this people to life in a way that others only dream of.  I started to read this a while back, and I wasn't sure what I was getting into.  I almost stopped--not that the writing wasn't excellent but more that it wasn't the fluffy stuff fan fiction usually is made of.  I'm so glad I didn't.

Author's Response:

It's definitely not fluffy, no.  I know some readers don't like that and have dropped it, but that's okay. :-)
