39 Chapters to even let them kiss - I think you may have a record on your hands.... FINALLY!!! I'm so anxious about this story now - ever since you said no one has guessed where it's going. I love the redemptive nature of their relationship here... well done. I'm trying to think of something funny to say - but well I'm just glad they finally got some action.
Author's Response: LOL! Yes, finally they get some action. And I'm both relieved and amused that nobody has guessed the end yet, although really, it would take some pretty good guessing to do so. I've laid the groundwork for the final plot-arc, but it's just like a foundation. You can't really see the building yet. ;>

Awwwwh, Katie! It was worth the wait! You gave me goosebumps!
One of the things I have always loved about your story is the 'showing' vs. 'telling.' Your characters are so three dimensional. This chapter is a tremendous example of how effective your story treatment is. I seriously heart you for that!
Both Edward and Bella have done quite a bit of growing in the past ten years. As I started to read this chapter, I found myself returning to the prior chapter so Edward's thoughts and realizations about the 'crumbled wall' would be fresh in my mind. That was his break through. And the door was open...
Bella's realizations in this chapter unfold in a very believabe manner, pulling us deeper and deeper into her mind and her heart. In a way, I feel like you have pulled us back to a more mature version of SM's meadow - with ten years of growth and pain and sadness and awareness...as Bella recognizes how she feels and that she is ready to move on. And forward.

Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, I think there was a bit of the echo of the meadow spinning in my head. Certainly with them hanging out in the backyard where it's so far from any neighbors, he doesn't have to worry about the sun. :-) But I wanted that sense of JOY. They've traveled a long and painful road, but they can really love now, and recognize the grace that they've been given. The whole pain-to-joy cycle that Edward talks about.

Yay! It's just the natural progression of their relationship. They were already 'dating' (or acting like it) before they even realized it. And I love their conversations. They always seem to turn to a philosophical subjects.. (or maybe I'm reading too much into it since some topics match what talk about in our philo classes. lol.) Anyway, I like reading their conversations.

Part of that is just what convos I choose to show. They talk about all sorts of things, but I don't show a lot of those because they're mundane. :-) Some days they just talk about their day, or music, or TV shows, or such.

:-) I am content with this chapter. Little to no drama, unless you count the Renee/text message conversation, and I liked it.
You do have a very nice flair for descriptions - "those five words lie quivering between them, [i]raw and glistening with the blood of his pride.[/i]" I love it.
It's also fascinating to watch their conversations and the interactions between them be so easy and smooth. Example - the conversation about her weight. I started to laugh so hard at that, but it's true too. You really can watch their relationship develope and advance in the way that most lasting relationships do. I think you've done a wonderful job of demonstrating that even with their 'first' kiss since it's not full of fiery passion, but is rather one that leaves room for more.
Still looking forward to more. :-)
Author's Response: Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this chapter, some of the humor. I don't like melodrama, so I try to cut it with humor. :-)
And I'm really glad their relationship feels like it's the sort that will last, as that's really what I'm aiming for: that level of trust and intimacy.

This story is so fantastic! I can't get over how well-written it is. I don't know if it's taboo to say this sort of thing, but I honestly feel like this is a more thoughtful and carefully-developed version of Twilight than the actual books. Maybe it's wrong to compare the two, because "In the Blink of an Eye" is, in so many ways, just plain different from the books. Maybe it's just that I love this alternate version, where things don't work out neatly and easily. I find your messy, complicated version incredibly compelling. Anyhow, I am always thrilled when I get an email telling me that there has been a new chapter posted. And I can't wait for the next one!!
Author's Response: Thank you! I think the original was really written for YAs, so it's a very different feel. But I found myself frustrated with some aspects of it, so I wanted to write a story really aimed at older readers. :-)

It was worththe wait for the first kiss, but I am expecting some additional kissing very soon. I've thoroughly enjoyed their relationship so far but kissing Edward is just the best.

I've been to Helen, GA (grew up outside of Atlanta) and it is most definitely beautiful.
I'm not sure what i think of carlisle and esme split. and edward and emmett not together? that just seems really difficult. that's a lot of change in 10 years.
happy to see alice in the story though.
