Did I say this already?  I tend tp keep your chapters until I have several to read at once, and forget if I've reviewed past chapters (of course, I always reread the last previously read chapter to re-establish myself...).  Anyway, I thought you wrote this awkward and lovely scene beautifully.  I can't wait to read the next few I have waiting for me...

Also, as a die hard baseball fan, I loved this "human" comment from E:

"Watching you sleep is better than watching a Cubs game -- with the Cubs winning."

Author's Response:

LOL!  Oh the Cubs.  I grew up with the Atlanta Braves, but I know how fanatical Cub fans can be!

I found your wonderful story just a few days ago and I have been extremely engrossed in it. This is, if not the best, most definitely one of the best fanfics I’ve read so far. It is very very well written, I love your vocabulary. I feel like reading one of the twilight series books only written for ‘adults’. I mean the books Stephenie wrote are mainly addressed to teenagers and I loved all four and a half of them, but this one is more mature and pithy.  I also very much like the fact that all point of views are displayed but they’re not like EPOV or BPOV or written in first person. The exchange of ideas, thoughts, expectations, aspects of life and truth between Edward and Bella has been fascinating. You’ve shown what a real 117 year old experienced man (putting aside for a brief moment the vampire status) is supposed to be. Also, all those little trivial every day things you’ve put in the story, like her ‘human’ moments, the actual problem of being handicapped, even his arousal and then the palliation, make this story real.  It’s not just Edward though who is actually showing his real age but the others as well. Jasper? I absolutely love the way you present him to be as well as the fact him being an academic. Rosalie? Another wonderful surprise. She’s beautiful, but you have gone way past that and shown her personality.

17year old Bella was acting on impulses but 28year old Bella knows exactly what she’s doing. This is not infatuation; this is real and profound love. If she chooses to be changed it will be a conscious decision and she will not regret it. All the other vampires were changed at a very young age, adolescents, and it was not their choice. They hadn’t had the chance to experience many things so I think that was the main reason for regret of being changed and for longing to be humans again.

Mark being black? Brilliant! Mentioning the issues of domestic violence? Brilliant! Displaying the problems of handicapped people? Brilliant! Bella an academic despite her problem? Brilliant! Edward not caring about Bella’s disability? Brilliant! The great relationship between Bella and her mother in law? Brilliant! Esme’s reaction to Bella? The typical mother that is being taken away her precious son? Brilliant!

Now that I found your story it is on my favorites list and I can’t wait to read the next chapter and how they’re moments under the same roof will be.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!  I'm really glad that you liked this and found the characters and their behavior to be realistic.  And yes, Stephenie was writing for teens.  I really wanted to let them grow up! :-)  How would people sorta my age act and react?

I also didn't really like the anti-human-ish message in the books.  I wanted a Bella a little more cognizant of what she'd give up if she became a vampire, and who could see the value in being human. :-)

Thanks again for the really sweet compliments!

Just beautiful. So, yes, while Bella already had to grow up very early, Edward's family might push him a little harder now than before to grow up, too. In their loving, understanding fashion, but hard to miss nontheless. I can't wait how the house sharing of R, EM, B and E will work out. I'm sure Rose will guide Edward directly and unmistakeably, so that it might not take another 117 years until he finally lives with Bella alone on their own :) Looking forward to your next chapter already!

Author's Response:

LOL!  Yes, Rose won't be letting Edward get a blank check to stay there as long as he wants with no commitments.  But they will let him get used to the idea. ha.

Ahh Katie, the last two chapters are so delicious.  A sigh of relief.....tension leaves the shoulders.  All is right with the world......Carlisle is home.....with the entire family.............

OK!  I love roller coasters! (The Magnum at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH is my favorite!)  The clank, clank, clank as you slowly rise up 205 feet to the very top and view the beautiful beach and blue lake below.  You take a deep breath and start to screammmm as you drop 195 feet at a 60 degree angle.  Is that how it is going to be Katie?  I can't wait!!

I am not a writer.......just a voracious reader!

Author's Response:

I'm not sure if it'll be exactly like that, but it might be, at the end. :-D

I'm glad you're enjoying it, thought.

so lovely. I just came home from harrowing preparations for exams, and found this chapter as a present. So tender and wise and right. And oh Lord how glad I would be now to snuggle up to someone loving and caring and imperfekt right now. Ah well. I'll just live vicariously through Rose (with her loving hunk) now. Lots of hugs to the talented fanfic writer,

wonderful as usual. though this "usual" word can suggest that it was ordinary and this is definately not the case!

I'm sad that Edward thought he must sacrifice his "old fashioned" needs. Somehow i don't see it as a good compromise.. hope he won't blame Bella (maybe she can realise how important for him it is)..

That last scene - analogy to the wedding ceremony but with reversed roles showed how Edward is "rewriting" his story with Bella. How much he can sacrifice his stubborness, safety of staying distant. Can Bella value that? i hope she can.

thanks so much for the update! I am happy that school is over for you for now :-)

Author's Response:

Inevitably one of the issues that face Edward and Bella is that of age -- and not just in the sense that she looks older than he does.  While I think people probably notice that, I don't think they look as far apart as they might actually be, or fear they look -- more like 5 years than 10.  But the REAL issue is that he was born at the turn of the Twentienth Century, but he's trying to live at the beginning of the Twenty-First, and Bella is a child of her age.  We're back to the "event horizon" issue.  Edward has to decide if he's going to let himself get caught in his past and "frozen," or move forward past "time."  He's definitely trying to do the latter, but I think Bella IS more aware of the challenge now than she was when she was younger.  Her own aging has helped her get a better grasp on "time" for vampires. :-)

There's something so bittersweet about seeing Edward leave Esme - and not just on his end, either.  I'm happy that Edward is moving forward and "striking out" as it were; one of the things that makes this story so unique is that as careful as you are to deal with the inequalities in Edward and Bella's relationship, in some places it feels more like Bella is the one with the upper hand now.  Whether vampire physiology/psychology really does "freeze" you or that's just a convenient excuse the Cullens use, in so many ways Bella has been the more mature, personally experienced one this time around.  Your Edward has been growing in leaps and bounds, especially considering just how stubborn he truly is, and I keep on waiting for him to just collapse in exhaustion and beg for six months locked away playing dreary music on his piano! LOL

It's going to be interesting to see Rose and Edward living under the same roof.  And, of course, I can't imagine Emmett not making at least one or two jokes at Edward and Bella's expense.  The possibilities for quietly mortifying situations are endless!

I loved the moment between Edward and Bella at the beginning of the chapter after he got her settled into the car.  And their conversation was precious.  I'm glad to see them not playing any games with each other.

Congrats on getting your grading done!  And I'm all for more updates, whenever you're able to get 'em out to us.  :)

Rachael

Author's Response:

Yes, I think -- in some ways -- Bella DOES have the upper hand.  It helps balance out the ways that Edward does, like a LOT more money and years and years of more education and knowledge.  Bella has more wisdom now, I think.  But it allows them each to bring something to the table of their relationship that they can give to the other (which s/he doesn't already have), beyond just affection.  I felt that was missing before.  In SO so many ways, younger Bella wasn't Edward's equal.  Now she is.

Rose and Edward will probably try to avoid each other as much as possible. LOL!  Emmett will tease only if he's sure it won't interfere with Edward and Bella moving forward.  He's behaving himself right now. Hee!

As always, excellent chapter. I really like your writing style and the fact that you portray everyone in a lot more mature manner than some other stories out there. It probably helps that Bella is a lot older than usual. Thanks and looking forward to the next chapter :)

Author's Response:

Thank you!  I like having an older Bella.  The dynamics are different!

And so Edward leaves the nest, with his father's blessing. Ready to play house and act like an adult. Bella has accepted her feelings for him, and invited him into her home (and bed!). Rosalie is accomodating to him. Carlisle and Esme now have the time and space to hopefully work things out between them. It seems this chapter certainly signaled a changing of the tides.

Author's Response:

It has!  People are -- gasp! -- acting like adults! LOL! :-D

loved it - Edward's really matured in this story. It's kind of sweet that both he and Bella are being so careful with what they say out loud to each other, afraid of pushing the other away :)

Reviewer: SusanL (Signed) · Date: May 18, 2009 05:37 PM · On: Chapter 43

This was good.  I liked Edward asking permission to stay at Rose's house, and Bella stating it is Rose's house.

Regardless of chronological age, I see Edward as the emotionally the youngest when he was turned.  He was the pampered, privileged only child.  He may have been considered a man, but he had not had to grow up in the way the rest of his "siblings" had done.  It seems fitting that he was the last to leave home, and to move on.  Now Carlisle and Esme have to learn how to live with each other

I particularly enjoyed the last bits with Carlisle giving his blessing and his "parents" giving him away.

Author's Response:

YES!  Edward was very young and pampered.  It's the same thing with Rose, although she was at least a year older, and girls do mature faster.  And I think that it may be easier for Carlisle and Esme to deal with their own issues withOUT "the kids" in the house.

Thanx for the chappie. I've been waiting and wondering when i was gonna see these guys again. What a milestone. Edward's putting on his big boy pants.

LOL!  Yes, Edward has put on his big boy pants!  That's a good way of saying it. :-D
