I just read the whole thing today and it's great. It's obvious that you don't like to do things half way, and this is one of the few fics where there's actual reasoning and research behind stuff. Waiting for the next update!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  I try to do my homework!

you love, you take risks :-) i'm so proud of Edward. and i just love your Bella! she just is able to acknowledge not only her needs but also needs of her partner :-) and i really know how nice is to be let to buy something for another person. and really i learn how to let others buy presents for me....i've noticed that recently how bitchy i can be and try to fight it :P

thanks for your update! you just don't have any idea how i alwas await your next update!!! thanks!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  And a new update probably early next week.  It's written in rough draft, but needs several edits.

Great chapter!!! They're a couple now a real one and they're starting to do those little things that are so very important because they're doing them together and for themselves.

I also like the fact that despite the happiness and the good moments they're having while shopping, Bella has not forgotten that in ten years she will look older and he will not. But then it's great to know she's considering that in ten years they'll still be together and that she wants them to be together.

Author's Response:

She's starting to think about things like that.  Things are changing for *her* very rapidly right now, even if the reader has been anticipating it (as has Edward), so she's just starting to consider "And then ..." questions. :-)

I already love this story, but your mention of the Indigo Girls puts you at the top of my list :)  They are my absolute favorite.  I got to meet them several years ago and they are the coolest ladies in the universe!

Author's Response:

I had the opportunity to do a little interview with Amy, and liked her quite a lot.  Plus, they're from Georgia, so!

Reviewer: StephanieCullen (Signed) · Date: May 31, 2009 12:30 AM · On: Chapter 45

This story remains at the top of my favorites.  Your attention to detail is just incredible.  My son has been in a wheelchair since 2002 follow surgery to remove a brain tumor.  We deal with the same crap that you detailed in this chapter.  It frusterates me to no end!  I am forever having to rearrange store aisles just so he can get around.  Christmas is the WORST time too with all the added merchandise and holiday items.

Author's Response:

Yes, Christmas is a REAL PAIN, what with decorations + more shoppers, and shops rarely think about where they're putting stuff.  Anyway, I'm glad it resonnates!

Loved the gifts being bought so far - the village scene sounded awesome and I liked the symbolism of starting small and adding to it in the following year(s) - i think it went really well alongside B&E's careful steps together with their new relationship :)

The poor old reindeer getting spooked though!

Author's Response:

Yes, that poor old deer!  And the village is rather symbolic for them. :-)

Awww. Fluff fluff love. Edward /is/ such a sap. And Bella is letting him have his fun.

Author's Response:

I think many cynics ARE cynics because they're frustrated saps. Ha.

Reviewer: JerickaRose (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 06:34 PM · On: Chapter 45

Bah. Luckily I'm not in a chair yet. I will be one day... but hopefully not soon. It's annoying enough shopping using a cane and having people running past me and kicking it out from under me!

I can see it now... shopping around Christmas time in 5 or so years... small stores + chair + photosensitive epilepsy! That's going to rock! (Pun TOTALLY intended!)

I love your story, and I am always excited when you update. I love trying to picture the places you describe in my mind. Athens is beautiful btw. I was in Georgia for a while trying to get a service dog. According to my boyfriend, who happens to be from outside of Athens, I'm a damn dirty Yankee. He's just jealous because Maryland has better seafood. Anyway... yeah. Your story is neat to me, because I love Georgia, and the East Coast in general. I've got awesome neuorolgical conditions... so now I just need to find me a shiny vampire, and I can pretend I'm like your Bella! hehe!

Keep up the good work! Sorry for my lame-ass review!

Author's Response:

Your review was fine! :-)

And yeah, I think a lot of disabled people would LOVE to have an Edward of their own (or a Rosalie, if male) who'd go to bat for them and intimidate the hell out of rude people.

Reviewer: kng1986 (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 06:33 PM · On: Chapter 45

But he's more of a sap than he pretends -- you better be prepared.  I like the  idea  of a sentimental sappy Edward and I like the fact that they are starting to collect things that are theirs.  This was a cute fluffy chapter and i really liked it.

Author's Response:

Thank you!  Fluff is sometimes important. :-D

Reviewer: BaileyMac (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 06:23 PM · On: Chapter 45

This was a sweet chapter...but I'm ready for more angst and excitement!  When are they going to get down to talking about the future - or will something happen that makes Edward decide for them??  I can't wait to find out!

I love your writing...it's very deep, smart, and mature.  Not that simple is bad, but complex is a good change of pace!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  And things are coming, but slowly. :-)

I have finally caught up to the current chapter. I am really fascinated by wonderful beautiful progression of the  relationship between Edward and Bella. I am also in awe of the realism that you have injected into Bella's condition.

Author's Response:

Thank you!  On both counts. :-)

Oh it's definitely true that people are that rude.  Even if you're on crutches, people are jerks and will expect you to stand on a bus because how dare you suggest a healthy 18 year old forfeit their seat?  Never mind how many times I've reamed out people parked in handicapped spots (my dad is disabled - can walk but with extreme difficulty).

Author's Response:

We've found people tend to be one or the other -- not much middle ground.  Either they're impatient, rude and resentful of the "special interest" and cost for making things accessible for the disabled, OR they're actually pretty nice, even if they don't know to think about ___ until it's mentioned.  As soon as you mention it, they're like, "OH!  Really?  I didn't know!"  But a lot of shop owners do, unfortunately, complain about making their stores accessible.  I DO understand that it's costly, especially for older buildings (and some just can't be made so), but they get really angry when it's pointed out.  I really think there are people out there who think anybody disabled should just stay home or at places for "those people" and give up living. :p

Great chapter!  I must be getting old then if the Indigo Girls need explanation.  They were the soundtrack to my college days.

I just love Edward in this story!

Author's Response:

I think the Indigo Girls are still somewhat known, although I find few people up here (in Alaska) are that familiar with them, unless they're into the folk scene and/or more liberal politics.  But in N. Georgia?  Yeah, they're known. :-D

Reviewer: katydid (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 03:44 PM · On: Chapter 45

I like your service announcement!  I learned at a young age to watch for handicap parking...My father and I were leaving a grocery store, and some ass parked in the handicap and close to a parked van.

My father placed me in the car, and he went back into the store finding a manager to advise of the illegally parked car!  Then, he found the owner of said vehicle and walked him out of the store...it was raining, and a woman was trying to get the ramp down to get her husband into the van...the idiot parked so they could not get into the car.  My father is 6'4" and did a little bit of intimidating!

I also volunteer w/Baltimore's Downtown Sailing Center for accessibility sailing...it takes a plan to decide where to head out after open sailing...not too many places are accessible!  Thank goodness Little Havana's is!

Thanks for the update and PSA-Kate

Author's Response:

Thank you!  And your dad sounds awesome.  The thing about the parking is that, while those spots often DO stand unused 80% of the time, when they're needed, they're needed THEN.  The handicapped can't sit around waiting for somebody in the store, hoping they'll just be a minute ... and they can't get OUT to go in and ASK.  So it really pisses me off, and it pisses me off even more when somebody complains, "But they're never used!"  Ass.

I'm so glad they want their 'own' stuff. And Edward is like a little boy wanting the train!

Author's Response:

Yes.  Sharing holiday decorations is one of those things that, I think, marks a couple as "serious." :-)

This is sort of bittersweet...blending the loss with a renewed love. Brilliant writing! I am an MD and have several patients in wheelchairs so medically I am aware but I must admit you have opened my eyes to the everyday challenges that I have never spent time fully considering. Thank you for that!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  On both counts!  And it's often the small stuff that winds up being the biggest deal.

I'm so so happy I started reading this story a week ago, I can't remember when I've gotten through over 40 chapter so quickly with all the other stories I read, but this story just seems to be written so wonderfully that it was a great read. You have though about so many facts that I'm continually questioning the books and a lot of other read as to what is most plausible to the stories. And the two updates I have now had the chance to read have made me so happy cause I can't seem to ever get tired of reading this story. :o)

This chapter was just so sweet - Bella and Edward are just so sweet together, they're so considerate and loving with each other and they do their best to keep it that way. :o)

I'm hoping for some christmas time with the Cullens soon that's got to be some fun. :D

Author's Response:

Thank you!  This chapter was fun to write because it was so low-key and easy. :-)  But I'm glad the whole story has read easily.  It probably seems longer than it actually is in terms of words as each of the parts is more a scene than a true chapter. :-)

Reviewer: crf720 (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 01:50 PM · On: Chapter 45

love it as always!  i enjoyed the simplicity of them just being together this christmas...and bella learning to take edward's feelings into account as well instead of continually expecting him to change for her.  it's nice and refreshing and beautiful.  great chapter!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  This one was a fun chapter to write.  Some nice fluff.

Reviewer: SusanL (Signed) · Date: May 30, 2009 01:00 PM · On: Chapter 45

Maybe that will teach Alice to be a little more specific?  I enjoyed B&E's shopping expedition.  They are learning the art of compromise.

On a side note, I used to work retail and our supervisors/DMs/mktg people were very conscientious about maneuvering room for wheel chairs and people w/mobility issues.  I never had a problem w/employee attitude, but some of the shopping public left a lot to be desired.

Author's Response:

The art of compromise, indeed!  Before, they seemed to have a hard time with that, so I wanted to show they've grown.

On stores ... we've found a lot of variation on sensitivity.  Some stores are great, others ... not so much.  But the incident this Christmas sort of took the cake.  It was over a tree, too!
