Another lovely chapter. There's also a real melancholy to it, Angela's tiredness, her parents' worries, her thinking of their upcoming year apart.
Some fav lines --
“My parents went there. It’s where they met,” he says simply. I don’t have to ask him if he means his biological parents. I can tell by the tone of his voice who he means.
“I see you took Edward’s Angels cap…he’s pretty possessive of it, ya know.” -- “It’s mine now, actually,” I say as casually as possible. I turn to face Edward and he’s smiling as he leans in to hug his brother as well.
And of course
I watch Edward’s back and the slow rise and fall of his breaths, trying to determine if he has fallen asleep or not. Suddenly I decide that it doesn’t matter if I wake him or not. I get up from my bed and then quickly slide into his behind him before I lose my nerve. I scoot into his back and snuggle up against him, with his back against my chest, and place my arm around his waist. He is warm and I sigh at the scent of him so close to me, his bare upper half pressed against me.
I didn't guess diabetes in advance. I'm somewhat relieved that he didn't tell her because, though diabetes is serious, it wasn't as life threatening as her situation. I was afraid it was going to turn out that he was keeping something even worse from her.
Thanks for posting!

sooo happy to have an update i really missed this story. i wonder where edward will decide to go to college and if bella will follow him the following year. i kinda thought edwards disease would be more serious- not that diabetes isnt. i understand where he is coming from when he says he didnt mean to lie. i hope they talk things out. these two like to take one step forward and two steps back alot!

I just read this all, and looooooooved it.
The only thing I don't get is why he didn't just tell her about being diabetic. I mean it's nothing to hide from someone.

Hey Melanie
I think I guessed diabetes. I'm not sure why he wanted to keep it such a big secret though. Yes, it can be difficult to live with but it's not going to kiil him (if he looks after himself). I can understand why Bella is angry with him. It's a lie by omission and I think she would be feeling hurt that he doesn't trust her enough or care for her enough to share something like that.
It's good to have you back. Hope you are well.
Annette

I didn't expect that. But it makes sense. He never ate things with too much sugar. Like his coffee, or the sugar free gingerbread cookies. Anyways can't wait for the next update. I get so excited when I see that you've posted a new chapter. I love this story.

poor Bella....she was so trusting and caring. I just feel so awful for her. Can't wait for more.

I had guessed when Esme was making sugar free cookies.
Bella needs to give him a break, people don't like to complain to you when you're dealing with cancer, I know! My brother broke up with his wife and went through some serious mess when my son was first diagnosed, and didn't tell me for 3 months despite the fact he was calling or visiting virtually every day to check we were ok. People feel their problems pale into insignificance in the face of Chemo.

Loving this so far!
My best (and only) concert so far has been Nickleback, with Saving Abel, Hinder, and Papa Roach. It was awesome.
Goo Goo Dolls are coming to my campus, but they're playing on a Thursday night and I have class. :(

I had also guessed diabetes early on - but I was afraid you would not take the opportunity to educate others about the devastation of the disease. It certainly affects everyone diffently. Definitely a very scary condition.
But by calling attention to how not taking care of your body and being in denial (being non-compliant as we say in the industry), you are being a very good educator about how serious a disease this can be.
Not everyone with type 1 diabetes ends up in the hosptial as much as Edward, but it is always a possiblitiy. And by his admittance that he was in denial, he confirmed how serious this is and how it is a certainty that he was putting himself into a life or death situation by not taking care of himself.
Thanks for a beautiful chapter as always - and for making the situations as real as possible. Clearly you know what you are writing about!

I have diabetes and as far as I'm concerned, much of the stuff on here isn't accurate. For example, these days ppl can have insulin pens, not standard needles for injections and syringes.
You don't have to go on a special diet, you just have to work out how much insulin you need to cover the carbohydrate eaten. BUT many ppl DO eat fewer carbs so they don't need so much insulin as some people get side effects. (It's not insulin in same form as our body makes it)
I think it would be impossible for Edward to hide his diabetes from Bella for so long, since he probably has to take it every meal time. What's he doing.. hiding in the bathroom? Can't for a moment think that Carlisle, as a doctor would be OK with his son doing that when Bella was around.
And what kind of message are you sending about diabetes ? We aren't junkies,we have an illness. No way should people on insulin, Byetta or Victoza have to hide away to inject.
Bella is being a biatch to him btw.

I love it. Your writing just paints a picture in my mind... it goes along perfectly with Regina Spektor's "Samson," by the way. =) I just love it. Please, please continue, and I can't wait for the next installment! I think honestly that this is my favorite fanfiction yet... it's just so moving and meaningful. Most others are more or less surface-deep, but yours is very thoughtful and the writing is so flowing! It deals with really important topics and parts of life, like death and sadness and illness, in a truthful and authentic way, unlike most fanfiction I have read. You are so talented, really! I can't wait. I will be checking every day. Your writing makes me so happy. =) Really. Please, please hurry and continue. =)

Okay, so I thought I had read that Edward's mother died when he was younger - now Alice is saying, "My parents" - sorry if I've misunderstood something earlier.

About Edward: I'm guessing that he was in a car crash with his mother, who died from it, and he's been going through surgeries because of it, ever since. Can't wait to find out more!

There were some really great one liners in this chapter that I wanted to comment on, but I got too carried away with the story and forgot them. Enjoying this tale!
