Wow. Just... wow.
I really love this chapter for so many reasons.
Edward is really fucking lonely. I already knew this from the previous chapters but you really provided a heartbreaking insight to just how lonely he is. Recovery is a very lonely process and I just love you for portraying it accurately. I love that Edward is taking baby steps towards a new way of living - expressing remorse for his past actions with the alcholic woman - for going to a movie by himself - for thinking of writing a letter of apology to the theatre owners - for hoping that the girl in the grocery store has someone to gently tease her for her yogurt obsession. These, while small, are big steps for him - it makes me sad that he doesn't even seem to realize it.
I really feel for Edward. It's going to be hard for him to get some confidence back when he's trying to sort out who he is. I'm sure his attraction to Bella and Jasper's seemingly disapproval of it won't help. It will be interesting to see how Jasper's role plays out in all of this.
Also, I wanted to thank you for not begging for reviews or making readers feel bad if they choose not to provide one. It's classy and I think that's the way to go.
This story really touches me :') I'm so glad that you're sharing it!

Author's Response: Thank you. For all of that. I wish I had something more meaningful to say, but all I can say is that I really appreciate what you've written.
As far as reviews go, I love me some feedback - just as much as the next person who writes this stuff - but I am perpetually puzzled and (quite frankly) grossed out by people who demand reviews. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I am completely in love with this. It's been a while--a long while--since I've read such intelligent, real characterizations of Bella and Edward. I've read alcoholic, manwhore Edward of course--but not like this one. I've read sexy, snarky Bella before--but not like yours.
Your Edward is broken and pained, yes, but also seems so very blank, like he never really knew who he was or what he was supposed to be, like he's just been looking for something--someone--to help fill in the spaces between. I love that he has a real job, one very much appropriate for someone coming out of rehab; I love that he smokes and wants to quit; and I love that he reads books, all kinds of books (rather than the endless stream of Palahniuk often favored by most bookstore-going Edwards).
Your Bella is searching, but she's not lost. I love that she has sex with Seth because he's hot and nice, but doesn't want anything beyond that. I love that the authors she references make me actually believe that she is, in fact, going to get her PhD in English Lit. But most of all, I love that she responds to Edward's confession not with "I don't care; I love you anyway" or a sprint toward the door, but with confusion and a little embarrassment: the response most people would have given the overwhelming awkwardness of the situation.
Great fiction requires a balance between the real and the extraordinary, between what we know and what we we wish we knew. Most writers have difficulty finding that balance. You do not. Obviously.
Thanks for crafting something so wonderful. I look forward to reading the rest.
Author's Response: Thank you for your kind words. But beyond that, I appreciate the time you've taken in writing this, and I'm glad that some of the things I'm trying to do with this fic are coming through. And although I do love me a little Palahniuk from time to time, it's just not this Edward's speed. =)

I really like this. It feels very genuine, and I like that these chapters are just about the small steps Edward takes and the routine he keeps so rigidly in order to stay sober.
I also like the cute awkward conversations E/B have-- very realistic.
Look forward to your update.

Edward's story about the woman was hard to read and as sad as it was for the woman, it was almost as sad for him. I guess Jasper has a different outlook on Edward, suggesting he befriend Bella. I like the whole story, but your EPOV draws me in and sticks with me for days afterwards.

So good -- this is just so damn good! It was interesting seeing Edward's life. It seems to have changed (somewhat) from the monotony from before. I think that the routine offers some stability to him.
Having him retell his story was terrible. Not just because of the memory and what he did but also because of how he felt about it now. I was impressed that he was able to share the memory and that he didn't decide to use or get drunk to avoid the memory. If he thought about it he didn't share that but if he didn't -- that is HUGE!!!
I found his convo with Jasper interesting too. Jasper has such a good read on him and I was very happy that he encouraged his friendship with Bella.
Looking forward to more!!!
AND -- Congrats on the ribbon!!! :):)

There's a needy, desperate side to this Edward that's so interesting. Looking forward to seeing how he and B interact as they get to know one another. Thanks for writing such a great fic. More people need to read it!

I enjoy the story and hope you are getting a lot of hits! I must say, you write Edward as if you were a male... good stuff. You really get him. Excited for more...

Really liked this chapter. I loved that they talked and had a convo. It was interesting to see how anxious Bella was to see Edward again.
Can't wait for more!!

Have I yet mentioned that I LOVE this story? I felt like a kid in a candy store when I saw this update. Your writing is just so visceral. You manage to show the reader so much of what your characters are feeling with what seems like the minimal number of words. Makes for a very engrossing read.
Didn't see the Jasper thing coming, but it all makes sense, and I like that he has a bit of a darker history too. And it'll be good for Bella to have Jasper in her corner (sort of) if things with Edward get difficult ( and I expect that they will). And I love how you write Charlie. Gruff but loving, a still-water-runs-deep sort of guy. Whereas with Edward, I feel like once he pushes past his present deamons, he'll be more extroverted. But maybe I'm just projecting.
Anyway, absolutely can't wait for the next chapter. This story and My Lost Youth are my top two at the moment. Well done!

I started reading and was taken aback by your Edward. I'm not exactly a great fan of Drunkward but I kept on reading 'cause the style was just so captivating. And now I just can't believe what this story has developed into.
I love it. And I really like Seth (it's good to read a Jake-free alternative for a change LOL)
I don't know what you've got in store but I'm so reading it. Thanks for a great story!
