The time has finally arrived for the trial to begin.  It was great that Carlisle took over the role of being the defending attorney.  Acting as Aro to the witnesses.  Charlotte and Bella are the stronger witnesses.  Charlotte's mind set is awesome.  Put him behind bars to avoid anyone else experiencing his tortures.  Even wishing he'll receive the same in prison.  Rape is definitely not a crime a man in prison makes him popular.  All prisoners have mothers, sisters, aunts, girlfriends, wives, and daughters.  All have women in their life outside of prison.  The thought of rapist hurting any of them as a possibility will result in severe beatings as the less offense.  James will probably be secluded in isolation for his own protection.  Limited human contact.  Once hopefully convicted the witnesses and their families will be able to express their feelings at any parole hearings down the road to keep him in prison.  Very curious what Cynthia has over Aro's head, it really phased him, lost his composure.  Must be pretty humiliation for him.  Has Edward tried to locate information?  Team Justice great name for their group.  Support among themselves to help each remain strong.  Emmett recovering thank goodness.  The Cavanaughs need to be taught a lesson.  Hoping nothing happened to Cynthia since she hasn't arrived at the courtroom yet. Looking forward to the trial and cross examination with Bella and Charlotte.  Hoping Maggie can be strong and solid with her testamony.

I hope you did wonderful on your finals.

it is so sad that this is actually a reality when it comes to this type of crime!  So frustrating for these women (and sometimes men, I've heard) but .... great story.

I don't know if it will be enough or not. (BUT you do!!) I fear that Aro will do very well against the charges, but something will happen to "hammer the nail" into James's coffin! He has go to go down!

I did not understand this comment. Are closing arguments give right before the case goes to jury? Bella is going to testify: " Bella isn't allowed in the courtroom until after closing arguments. "

This was a very good chapter. Things are really moving long now. I hope the trial wraps up quickly so E & B can have their HEA!

Author's Response:

None the witnesses or the victims will be allowed to be in the courtroom when the others testify.  They won't be allowed back in until after all testimony has been given and all evidence has been presented.  After the closing arguments, the judge will give the jury instructions and then the jury will be excused to deliberate.  This could take several hours or several days.  The witnesses and the victims will be allowed back in the courtroom to hear the verdict.

It HAS to be enough.  James has to burn for his crimes.  Great chapter.

I hate defense attorney's - immoral. Sorry, I work with a lot of attorneys (married to one as well but he is a team justice member). I have seen so many defense attorney's do awful things regarding blaming the victim. I just have no respect for them. I don't know how they sleep at night.

I feel bad for Edward. That had to hurt.

Had to laugh about Redding - I am from Northern California.

Fantastic story

Roast the bastard. Bella and Charlotte will be enough, and I hope they get the info they need to arrest James's father for conspiracy with the mystery man. Cant wait for the next chapter!

Oh Noooooos!  You're messing with my head!  They'll whittle away the witnesses until only Bella is left.  The danger factor will just grow and grow as the need for Bella's testimony grows critical.  Aro is such a creeper, wanting to touch Bella's hand and even addressing her in such a casual, familiar way.  Blech!  It's like he wants to infect her psyche and aura.  Edward was right to place himself in-between them.  I always feel like I'm sitting in a courtroom when you "talk" procedure or narrate what's going on.  It always rings true.

Great story! I'm so glad Bella and Edward were able to get past finding out that Edward got James off. Edward's father really was horrible and it was made worse by the fact that it sounds like he was so loving towards the Blacks. I really hope nobody else gets hurt but James and his family don't seem like they're going to back down any time soon.

Great chapter.  This chapter solidified my hatred of Senior with regard to his treatment of Edward and Elizabeth.

Here is one thing in the chapter I didn't really understand.  I get why Edward would want to know more and be friendly with Jacob.  However, I don't understand why Edward was so civil with Billie.  He stayed for dinner with her.  I may have misread, but did he invite Billie to the engagement party too?  If he did, that seems wrong to me, and a betrayal to Elizabeth.  Billie may not have known at first that Senior was married, but she has known for 20 years that he was and still carried on the affair.  She's scum in my book, and if I was Elizabeth I would expect Edward to treat her as such.  Jacob is the only innocent one out of the second family.

Author's Response:

Edward was raised by Elizabeth, so he would never disrespect someone in their own home.  He was civil and polite.  He did what his mother would have wanted him to do, but he did not invite Billie to the engagement party.  That is a line that he would not cross.  His love and respect for his mother outweighs any courtesy he would show to Billie.  Plus, he wants a relationship with Jacob.  Do you think that Jacob would be receptive to a relationship with Edward if Edward was an ass to his mother?  Probably not.

Huh. Well the meeting with the Blacks was interesting. Why was Senior the way he was with Edward but was completely ok with Jacob being a mechanic. Will we find out more on that stuff since Senior is dead? Such a good story. I've had it on my favorites for ever and started it, but wanted to be able to read all the way through. I couldn't hold out any longer.

Why was the reaction of Senior's death by Edward and the housekeeper almost comical to me? I did not see the Jacob thing coming.

Loving this story-it's had my attention now for two days. Um, I've never been in Bella's position, so I'm trying to give all my understanding to how devasted she must be feeling. But, I'm a bit frustrated right now with the way everyone has treated Edward at the end of this chapter. He told all of them he did NOT want to do this, that it would be UGLY. He warned Bella over and over. Then she and most of the rest of them get upset with him for doing what he told them he'd do. He doesn't mean it or believe those things himself, so I guess I'm not siding with Bella on this particular instance. She was wronged no doubt, she's got no reason to feel ashamed or to blame for what happened to her, but he's only trying to help her. Why did she decide now to introduce Charlie? He shouldn't be upset with Edward either. Really hope this doesn't last long, I don't feel he deserves this treatment/response.
