That was my goal when starting this fic, to try and be "true", for all intents and purposes, to what I thought a vampire in this situation might be going through. I think that since we NEVER get EPOV in the books, he is left as a pretty face, and it is easy to downplay his struggle. Because Bella has such faith in him, we never get that actual doubt that he feels. I loved reading Midnight Sun and was thrilled to read how he fought so hard not to kill her in class. Like, FINALLY! This is Edward! (and then she got all mopey/whiny about the book and fucking stopped writing it!!!)
