I can't wait to see them back at school together.
Baby steps: but Bella has to give Edward a break at some point.
Author's Response: You're right. Bella does have to give him a break at some point. Of course, he has to stop doing things the way he's always done them as well. He should've asked her out instead of showing up. I think she handled her reaction to that pretty well here. She was angry, but then she told him why. Baby steps... ;)

Bella needs the reassurance that Edward wants her physically. She's always seen herself as plain compared to the Cullens, and thinks that she wants Edward more than he wants her. His leaving her just cemented that in her brain. Therefore, it's great that he fell out of the tree. It's great that she sees how discussing her panties affects him, and it's great that they've had some kisses.
It really eats at Edward that she's out with Jacob. I wonder how she lets him drive her home, without really cutting him down to size.
At some point, Bella's going to have to decide that Edward and the rest of the Cullens have suffered enough. I wonder when that point will arrive?
Author's Response: Bella does realize soon that she's made her point with Edward and the Cullens and that it's time to look forward and stop thinking about the past. But she does need some reassurance that Edward wants her not just mentally but also physically - even if it seems like an impossible relationship. She desires him. She needs to know that he desires her "that way" as well. She's starting to see it in little bits and pieces, but she still feels like there's a wall there. She wants to break it down.

Gah! I wrote a whole review, then lost it when I pressed submit because suddenly Twilighted decided I wasn't logged in. I'll try to recreate my review now...
The relationship is taking baby steps forward, but in the long run they're going to be stronger than ever. The fact that Bella was able to sleep soundly all night lets me know that her subconscious knows that she's doing the right thing by not just melting into Edward's arms.
I wonder if Bella's power will be different from canon. I was impressed that she was able to redirect Jasper.
I loved it when she told Edward to 'shoo'. She really does know him.
Author's Response: Sorry about Twilighted eating this review the first time you wrote it. I hate it when it does that. In all this time, you're one of a very few people that commented on how Bella slept soundly all night. She slept soundly without Edward. That was such a huge moment and you're right - her pysche is telling her that she's doing the right thing. She's healing herself and making the right choices, because personally I'm sure she just wants to jump in Edward's arms and let his kiss everything better. ;) Her power won't be different from canon. Her redirection of Jasper was more because of Jasper's determination to change, and his amazement at how forgiving and accepting Bella is of him no matter what. She really does know and recognize what she's getting into by being a part of this family. That realization is what redirected Jasper more than anything else. And shooing Edward made me laugh, just like the rest of the family, because I don't think Edward thinks of himself as predictable.

WOW, that was a nice long chapter. I am so happy Sam was able to take Jacob away and give Bella and Edward the privacy that they needed. I have to be honest and had my fingers crossed he was going to have to change her, becuase I just like Bella being a vampire not a human, :) Please keep the stories comming, oh and poor Charlie, he will never get true revenge!!!
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it. Yes, I was glad Sam ordered Jacob back to the reservation as well. Edward hasn't had a chance to just be by Bella's bedside, and he really had some soul searching to do regarding her condition. Just because he didn't change her then, doesn't mean he won't though - so don't give up hope on that one just yet. ;) You're right, Charlie never will get the revenge he's seeking. I just hope it doesn't damage his relationship with Billy. :o Thanks for sticking by this story, and for continuing to read and review. I appreciate it all. =)

I hope she is going to be okay and will be changed on her's and Edward's terms. I also hope that Jacob backs off. :) Enjoyed it. I also love Charlie's thoughts of Edward. :)
Author's Response: You're the first one to say that... that you hope he changes her on their terms. That's exactly the reason that Edward hesitated. That's why he held back from doing the one thing that would could Bella immortality. It wasn't a decision they made together. It would've been out of desparation and panic. Then of course you have the fact that Edward feels he'd damn her soul by changing her. Well, after Edward's little prayer session, the reason he's able to hear her thoughts (which will be revealed), and making the decision that he would change her - his attitude about it all has changed. ;) I hope Jacob backs off too, but he's a stubborn mutt. Charlie and Edward's scene was so hard for me to write. The emotional overflow from the two of them during that scene just wrecked me. I think they're both in a better place with each other now though - so that's good. Thank you for sticking this story during my absence, and for continuing to read and review. I appreciate it all.

Ah, Bella, you really know him, don't you. I've heard of the phrase 'she can make a bulldog break his chain'. but I think 'she can make a vampire fall out of a tree' is even better.
I'm glad Edward has decided to court her. Woo her. She deserves it.
I'd also like to point out that I was never happy with canon Bella in her reluctance to accept gifts. Denying someone's generous nature is selfish in itself.
Author's Response: I've never heard of the phrase 'she can make a bulldog break his chain' - that's awesome! Hahahaha - yep, he fell. That moment still makes me laugh every single time. She does deserve to be courted and with all of his years of watching others he should certainly have plenty of ideas. ;) I was never happy with Bella's reluctance about gift acceptance either. I promise that she works on that too. =)

Welcome back!
I was so hoping that Edward was going to change Bella. This was another sad chapter but I'm looking forward to reading the next. I love me some Chief Swan and his sexy stache.
Thanks for the update!
Author's Response: Hi! Thank you for the welcome. It's good to be back. This chapter was intense, and I know a lof of people were rooting for Edward to go ahead and change Bella, but he just couldn't. Honestly, I was relieved that Jasper pulled him back in time because I don't think Edward would've truly ever forgiven himself if he'd done it just then. Don't get me wrong. He'd have pushed that part deep down and enjoyed the fact that he had her forever - but that little niggling "self-loathing" would've eaten at him. Charlie and his stache are definitely riled up and ready to kick some ass. ;) I appreciate you sticking with me during my absence, and for continuing to read and review. It means a lot.

Bella really has wrested control of the situation. At some point, they'll have to figure out a tenable balance of power. One person can't hold all of the power. Then again, it's Bella's turn, at least for a while. The thing I've learned: if you take too much power and keep it for too long, eventually you emasculate your man.
I'm wondering how Edward will be convinced to change Bella, since he doesn't have the Volturi breathing down his neck. Will it be Bella pulling a power play? I've always felt that his refusal to change her made her feel as if she wasn't good enough.
Author's Response: Hi Susan! I completely agree with you that one person cannot have all the power in a realationship. Edward had all the before. Bella seemingly has all the power now. But not really, she's just determined to make sure that Edward understands that this isn't some little human phase when it comes to the changes she's wanting to balance out their relationship. And with each step forward that they make together - the more he thinks about forever. =)

I literally had tears seeping from my eyes during this whole chapter. My husband and sons think I'm a half wit now, thankyouverymuch.
I think I was most moved by the conversation Bella had with Esme and Carlisle. I think Bella needed to explain her feelings to them, and I know she didn't want to truly hurt Esme, but I know that Esme is both touched and devastated.
This is a good lead in to the next chapter. I'm retiring to a secluded room so I can weep in peace....
Author's Response: Oh Susan, I always forget to issue tissue warnings on chapters. This chapter especially because of the title. That always makes me forget that it's not all in your face Badass Bella, there are serious heartbreaking moments. Esme's devastation over seeing firsthand what happened to Bella - how she dealt with their abandoment - was hard to write, especially as a mother. Carlisle's mentally worrying if Bella had lost her mind, and then realizing how again Bella had proven just how dedicated she was to their family....killed me. He tried to be so clinical about the cuts, but between Esme's anguish and Bella's admission of how she felt they were her parents was an extremely difficult thing for him to sit through. Add in that he has known Edward longer than anyone and knows how much this will affect his son and damn - I should've had a tissue warning. Sorry about that. Hopefully Rose's comeuppance helped provide some laughter as well. ;)

Oh snap. I was most definitely not expecting that! The part about hearing her thoughts, I mean. Though it is pretty cool. I'm also really glad that she's waking up!
I'm so sorry to hear about you losing your job, but I hope your new company is doing well. We'll still be here reading your story!
Author's Response: Well, then I'm glad I can still surprise you. ;) I can't promise that he'll be able to hear her thoughts forever though...and she's not out of the woods yet. Thanks for the well wishes on my company, and thankfully I didn't lose all my jobs. Just one of the four companies I worked for. Still, I'm having to readjust things and learn how to put myself out there again. Not my favorite thing to do. I appreciate you sticking by my story, and your continued reads and reviews. I like that Jacob and Bella didn't develop the close 'best friends' relationship that they did in 'New Moon'.
I think it will be to her benefit that Bella's black hole has been burst wide open. Edward needs to see the entire hole, and needs to see the pain she suffered. He never believed that he love was more than a weak, typical human love. Her suffering in New Moon convinced him that his assumption was wrong.
Author's Response: Yeah - there's no chance of a love triangle here because they didn't get that bonding. Besides, I'm totally Team Edward so that wouldn't have happened anyway. ;) And Bella needed to "practice" standing up for herself before she faces Edward and the other Cullens. Jacob deserved a bit of her wrath and she gave it to him. If they're going to be friends, then he's going to have to respect her decisions (just like everyone else) even if he doesn't agree with them. Problem with that? Jacob's 16 and thinks he knows everything. *eye roll* Hahahaha

While the lemon was hot, and great, so much more happened in this chapter, that I'm just going to leave it at that.
Right now, Rose deserves everything that's coming to her, and more. I can't wait to see what Bella has in mind. I wonder how much it will actually change Rosalie, though. I can't believe Rosalie was so disrespectful of Alice, basically calling her a liar. If I were Jasper, I'd have wanted to rip her hear out.
Author's Response: Haha - it's okay to skip over the lemon. I think it speaks for itself. ;) Rose does deserve a good take down. Rosalie's change would have to be gradual. Nothing Bella (or the family) could do would make her suddenly be any different than she is. It's who she was before the change - it's who she's been since the change. She doesn't see her comments to Alice as disrespectful, even if she was calling Alice a liar. She's seething with jealousy (although she'd never admit it) that Alice is that close with Bella. It doesn't matter that she won't let anyone close to her like that, not even Emmett. She truly believes that her family has lost it caring so much about some "plain human girl." She's about to have a nice reality check. ;)

Author's Response: Kayla, don't be silly. I could never kill Bella. I'm a happy ending kind of girl. Besides, World War III would've broken out if Edward had changed Bella right then - not to mention he would've always hate himself for it. I'm glad you liked the chapter and thank you for sticking with me during my absence. I appreciate your dedication to always reading and reviewing. It means a lot! =)

Oooohhh Bella, you are wonderful, and I love you. You made Edward look a little deeper, and that's saying something, because he's always so inside himself.
Author's Response: Hahaha - Susan, your reaction made me smile really big. Bella doesn't need to be physically stronger than the Cullens to inflict pain and she really schooled Edward in this chapter. Don't worry - she's not done yet either. ;) Thank you for continuing to read and review. I'm loving your reactions and comments.

This chapter both delighted and stunned me. I'm delighted that there is forward progress, and that Bella is no longer so alone. At least she has Alice back, and that's a great comfort.
It stunned me how she made seven cuts on her arm. I hope when Edward sees them, that he's brought to his knees in agony. Actually, I hope all of them are, especially Carlisle and Rosalie. Carlisle, because as leader of the Cullens, he should have put his foot down on the entire family abandoning Bella. Rosalie, because she's behaved callously.
Author's Response: I'm glad you became so emotionally vested in the chapter - that's a huge compliment. Yes, the seven cuts stunned Alice as well - and she's not easy to surprise. I don't want to spoil how the family reacts or what Edward has to say - but it will be a roller coaster. ;) Bella has big plans.
~Lisa
Reviewer: siriusyellowlab (Signed) · Date: June 11, 2010 03:15 PM · On: Chapter 4: Thin Red Line
The way you described Bella's thought process for the cutting was believable and understandable. Even though I've never imagined doing what she did, I was right there with her. Is her blood really that different, or is it that it's difficult for anyone to smell their own blood?
I'm glad she came to the realization that Edward lied in the forest. I'm also glad feisty Bella is making an appearance.
Author's Response: I did a lot of research on cutting to write this chapter. I needed to understand that kind of mindset for it to be believable and not make a mockery of it because it wasn't written to be a joke or shocking plot point. I honestly really, really didn't want to write it because I didn't agree with Bella's choice here. I tried for days to write around it, but the Bella in my head insisted. She's pretty stubborn you know. ;) Blood is difficult for anyone to smell (unless there's a lot of it) from what I understand, so Bella's "experiment" wasn't going to work in regards to figuring out why she smelled so good to Edward and the others. However, the cutting morphed into something greater than just the experiment. It became about being able to control her pain. When she did that, she was able to see past her heartbreak to the truth that Edward had lied. And then of course, she got really pissed off. =)

I love this chapter, even though it was very painful to read. The way you had Bella describe her pain was so compelling. I also love that she's angry, now, and I hope she gives it to Edward with both barrels. He really deserves a good ass whooping. Maybe she can hire a werewolf to be her champion? (Just kidding. I don't want a war to start...)
Author's Response: Hi Susan. Thank you for giving my story a chance. Yes, this chapter is painful, both to hear Bella's progression through her pain at the Cullens leaving her, and also to hear Alice and Jasper's reactions to Bella's torment. Don't worry, when she gets a hold of Edward - she doesn't just take him back with open arms. She's good and pissed. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review. I love seeing new readers reactions to the story as they often pick up on things that were missed before. =)

And again with an awesome reaction to her panties! Super!
Author's Response: Hahaha - that was so much fun to write. It's been too long since we've seen a playful side to Edward and this was the perfect way for him to loosen up and have a little fun. Not to mention, Bella was wicked smart pointing out to him how even when he went on instinct alone he still didn't hurt her. I was proud of her for that. I love it when Edward has an epiphany. ;)

Loved the EsmePOV! So few writers use her at all and the ones that do very rarely use her as well as you have done here. Bravo!
Author's Response: Hooray! I'm so glad you loved it. You know, I had such terrible writer's block with this chapter because I was trying to write around Esme. She finally tapped me on the shoulder and quietly let me know what needed to be said and done...then everything fell into place. So glad you are back and to hear that things are once again stabalizing in RL. The chapter was well worth the wait. You took me off guard with the attack on Bella, I so didn't expect that! Jacob's fury is almost endearing.....almost. I love the depth you gave Sam Uley, also unexpected but it fits so well and makes me respect him. Charlie broke my heart, I love the way you write him. He is the epitome of 'Dad' - and dear sweet Edward, ready to change his love. You're really bringing these characters full circle. The dimension you've given all of them is unlike anything I've read in the fan fiction genre. You're incredible!
Author's Response: Hey Jess. Thank you for the warm welcome. It's good to be back and yes, real life is starting to find some balance again. Bella's attack caught me off guard as well. Laurent didn't reveal to me just how sinister he was or how evil his plans for Bella were until I was actually typing it out. Jacob's fury is almost endearing in a few scattered moments, but for the most part he's just like every other annoying 16 year old that's fallen in love and can't have the girl he wants. Except in his case he can fursplode into a deadly creature when he doesn't get his way. ;) I've gotten quite a few comments on Sam and how he's portrayed in this chapter. I've been pleasantly surprised as I didn't realize I was writing him any differently than people were used to - other than the fact he doesn't tolerate Jacob's temper tantrums nearly as much as in the books. Oh Charlie. He broke my heart too. That entire scene between Charlie and Edward was very difficult for me to to write as the emotional overload between them both just wrecked me. For Charlie to recognize how much Edward loved Bella, and then to trust her care to him as he went to the res - not to mention calling him son - just turned me into a weepy puddle. I'm deeply humbled by your compliments on my writing, and I've always enjoyed your reviews. Thank you for sticking with me during my absence and continuing to enjoy this story. I'm so lovin' this story. I love your Bella and Edward. I stayed up all night to catch up and still had to work that day! (talk about dragging ass) I like how you taken a story line that is over wrote and found a way to make it fresh, a must read. I like how your Bella has a mind and uses it, not letting anyone push her around.
I only hope you let Bella stay this way when it comes to Jake, I like him, but your Bella has made her mind up and I don't think so will like Jake pull the crap that SM did. even after her Bella had made her mind up too. I love the way you are writing giving great detail, so please don't trash it for me and have Bella go all weak.
Ilook forward to Bella dealing with Edward over guilt, but part of me hopes he has growen up some and will not need a big push.
Thanks and please keep up the great work John see you on twitter!
Author's Response: Hi new reader, John! Wow - you read straight through to catch up? Here's some virtual eye drops and a big Monster energy drink to help offset that. :) I'm so humbled by your thoughts that I've taken an overdone story and made it fresh and different. That's such a huge compliment. Have no fear - my Bella will never be weak - well at least not when it comes to what she wants and what she doesn't want. She's obviously physically weak at the moment, but she will have choice words for both Edward and Jacob when she's recovering. Let's just say she's not going to be thrilled that when she fully wakes up she finds out she's still human. ;)

I have been trying to review this since yesterday but everything is against me! First work- then the internet and my laptop just died but I hooked up the good ole desktop and I'm back to review!
I will say that this chapter was worth the wait! Even if we've all been antsy for it! I forgot how long you chapters are so that made me SUPER happy.
I'd like to start off saying that I totally teared up when I read that Edward was praying. I know what a huge milestone that is for him but then when he became completely willing to change Bella I almost lost it! Waterworks galore. Despite the tragedy Edward has learned a huge lesson here!
I like how you incorporated Alice and Jasper's gift into recognizing Bella's awakening. As to how Edward was able to hear Bella I am very eager to know!
I usually love Jacob despite him being anti- Edward but I was secretly wishing Edward would take a bite out of him in this chapter. He needs to be taken down a notch and I'm sure Bella will be the one to do it as soon as she gets the chance.
Poor Charlie- I want to see the hell he puts the boys as the res in next chapter. Especially now that he's opened his eyes to Edward and finally sees how much he cares about her.
So glad you are back and writing again!!
Author's Response: Hahaha, there you are. ;) I'm thrilled you feel the chapter was well worth the wait. Yeah, my chapters are a bit longer than most because damn if these characters are long winded. :p Edward was praying. I was shocked when that happened because it was such a huge thing for him to do. It was him finally realizing that no matter how amazing and powerful he was - this was something he couldn't just fix. Even if he changed her it would've been different than her healing from her injuries as a human, not to mention that I think he small part of him would've always hated himself. How and why Edward could hear Bella's thoughts will be interesting and cause Edward to have a few more revelations. ;) Yes, Jacob is annoying and way out of line but what sixteen year old boy in love with a girl that's taken isn't? I'm fairly certain that Edward's patience won't last forever, I know Sam's wont, and Bella? Well, when she's fully recovered I see something along the lines of "every dog has it's day - but today is NOT yours" - hahahahahahaha. Charlie's heartbreak and willingness to push his feelings aside and ask Edward to sit with her, not to mention calling him son? That wrecked me. Total and completely wreckage.
Thanks for the amazing welcome back, for not giving up on me and this story, and for the killer review. I love it all. =)
