This is so sweet. It's a slow development, but it's so important because he hasn't had contact with decent people at all since he was human.  Everything he sees is new to him and scares him.  I love how their relationship is developing.

Yay Edward regaining shirtness!

This was EPIC, and raises all sorts of wonderful questions.  Why isn't Edward reacting more strongly to Bella's scent (whatever drug he was given probably)?  Is Carlisle still feeding him through the tube or is he getting nourishment some other way?  Are his eyes changing color as they did when Carlisle first started feeding him?  Will he have any natural vampire instincts if he lived in a cage for 90 years? Does he lie curled up on the bed all day because he's still weak, or is his body so used to crouching in a cage that he doesn't know how or have any inclination to move?

He didn't react much to the music...was he just too scared of the laptop, or is musicality just not part of this vamp's make-up?

Will he eventaully have the capacity to love?

Phew!  You did an amazing job with this chapter!!  I'm so entranced!!  I don't expect you to answer my silly questions - I'm sure I'll figure everything out as the story continues.  Thank you for this great story!!!

Author's Response:

He's not getting nourishment any other way just yet -- he'll still likely need to tube, but it's only been 2 days so he should still be alright for now.

Yes, his eyes are changing color, I believe bella mentioned that in the last chapter, if not, it was an oversight. His eyes are definitely lightening!

As for what he does all day and why... well, we'll see! hopefully :)

I think for the first time hearing it, it was probably just frightening to him. He's completely unused to it, so I could see how it'd be scary for him. And no problem, I answer what I can :) You're also more than welcome to hit up the thread on the AU forum and re-post your questions there!

Is it wrong that I squeal and bounce in my seat when I see an update for this story? Every new chapter just makes me soooo happy. And no wonder you haven't been able to reply to all the reviews with over 340 for one chapter, lol. I'm surprised and grateful that you're able to respond to as many as you do and still post new chapters relatively quickly. Has anyone told you lately just how awesome you are? Lol, if not.....you're awesome! I wish I could favorite this story again and again, lol, but instead I'll content myself leaving massive reviews for every chapter.

That said, starting at the beginning. I have to admit that I just about read every paragraph of the story twice to better absorb it and make it last longer. Good things go by too quickly, lol. It's like holding ice cream in your mouth for just a minute before swallowing it to better savor the flavor, lol.

Okay, back to the story and all the things I love about it. I completely understand Bella's uncontrollable sobbing about Edward's story of waking up. I wanted to sob myself. When he held her face in his hands (kind of) I wanted to squeal again. Intimate was a good word for it, but I could think of a few more like wonderful, exciting, heart-pounding, amazing, etc. etc. And I wonder if he was even able to count the number of years he'd been in captivity, bless his heart.

Him looking hopeful in library made me so hopeful too. I wonder exactly why he was becoming hopeful. I found myself with three questions repeating in my mind throughout this chapter. WWET? WWELA? WWEF? What was Edward thinking? What was Edward looking at? What was Edward feeling? And then analyzing all the little details to try to figure it out, lol. You could probably write this entire story from Edward's pov and get 300 reviews a chapter for that as well. It could be The Human in the House of Vamps, lol. Yeah I should never name a story. But seriously there are so many things that occur that I would love to hear in Edward's pov.  And he said goodnight! YAY! YAY! YAY!

And let's throw in some YAYs for Alice cause she's so damn awesome. I was thinking that her visions may have something to do with Bella dead or Bella as a vampire and I was glad to get confirmation on that. Not surprised that Emmett was excited at the thought of Bella being a vamp. And Carlisle getting all fatherly protective over her was nice. Even Alice doesn't know exactly what will happen, but I have a feeling that the vision of Bella being a vamp will come about as a result of her choice. And YAY again for Alice convincing Carlise to talk to Charlie and agree to Bella spending the weekend. The comment about the only time Edward not being consumed by fear was when Bella was with him was so sweet.

Bella kissed him! :D :D :D YAY for Bella too. And even though he flinched, he didn't run. And he seemed sorry that he couldn't react better. And Edward's query about Bella not being like the Cullens got me on another round of Edward questions in my head. How much does he realize about what he is and about the world in general? Given the revelation from later in the chapter, it probably wasn't a bad thing that Bella explained some things that she considers evident.

We finally got the full story of Bella knowing about vampires too! And it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I figured Alice may have saved her from some type of accident or possible rapists in Port Angeles or something, but James was surprising. And he was going to change Bella! Wow. But at least now we don't have to worry about him being a problem for Bella and her vampire in this story, lol. And Bella definitely had a lot to say that makes me really, really believe her changing into a vampire will be by choice. And I'm so happy that Bella got over being scared of the Cullens even though I understand why she was terrified of them.

I completely loved all the touchy feely stuff between Bella and Edward in this one. He's come so far! :D  And her getting to sleep in the bed with him. I wonder how he came to be holding her in his arms when she woke up. Yeah, we really need an EPOV of this chapter, lol. But it was so heartbreaking when she startled him and he panicked and asked her to not hurt him. Him being scared of the computer was also heartbreaking. Yeah it could be somewhat funny maybe in other circumstances but knowing this Edward like we do, it was just heartbreaking.

Alice went shopping for Edward, lol, again not surprised, but still happy. And I loved the Bella/Jasper moment thrown in there. Them being amused by playing with his powers was cute and I love all the brotherly moments Bella has with Jasper and Emmett.

And Edward's smiling so much more now. Not real, true smiles yet, but still smiling and that makes me smile, lol. And Bella reading to him was so sweet. Again not surprised that Dracula is Emmett's favorite book and that he feels superior reading it, lol. But it still is quite funny. I can totally see Emmett reading it and snorting and making fun of all that it gets wrong, lol.

Alice and Emmett came in the room. Part of me is looking forward to Edward becoming more at ease around the Cullens and another selfish part isn't looking forward to it, but wanting to keep Edward and Bella wrapped in their little cocoon. I'd imagine Bella's feelings on that would also be similar. Alice, however, seems quite willing to push the issue. But it was true Alice-fashion to burst in and sit on the bed. I was relieved however that she spoke to Edward and not over him.

And they researched him so we find out a little more! 90 years in captivity. It brings a tear to my eyes just typing that. And he's upset because he can't remember his parents.

But the ending of the chapter was soooo sweet it made my teeth hurt, lol. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this story. And I just checked and this review is over a 1000 words, so I'm quite sorry for that, lol. It's hard for me to shut up about things I really love though, lol.

Author's Response:

I think this review is longer than the chapter! I love it!

- It's very difficult to respond to them! But I try very hard to get as many responses out as possible, lol!

- The human in the vamp house! Bah! If I ever wrote this in EPOV, I'd take that title in consideration ;) However, I think there's something to be said for interpreting what E is thinking, yanno? The stories that do the sequel from the other POV I often end up disliking, because I LIKE that element of.. projecting your own character ideals onto characters. That being said, I'm a total attention whore so.. it's entirely possible that one day I'll get all emo and write THITVH. Snort ;)

- James is out of the running! Meaning james also likely wasn't responsible for E's condition, so yep, knock another thing off the wall of 'what the eff happened to him'.

- I ended up LOVING that Alice spoke to Edward! It was something that was actually talked about in great length with people before the chapter came out, and I think it worked out fabulously for its purposes. yay @ actually forming a relationship with another cullen.. sort of! :)

I checked the word count on this review too when I saw it, it was impressive bb. Sorry my response is fail, as usual, but thanks SO MUCH for the epic review :)

I don't care one way or the other if Edward has clothes on or not.  It'll be less awkward for them if he's fully clothed.  And it means that he's coming to accept his new place a little more.

This is a great chapter, just like all the others.  And every time I get to the end of the chapter, I feel a loss because I want MORE.

But I'm enjoying the small moment between them and Edward's slow recovery.  I'm not quite sure if he'd ever recover completely after 90 years.

I assume that as he gets more comfortable with her, he'll clue her in on what he's had to endure.

I love the small things that shows how protective of her he is already and would love to see his very animalistic reaction should he perceive someone threatening her.  I can see the distinctive crouch, the gleam in his eye, basically telling everyone that he will end them if they go near her.  Because he's (in the novels) quite posessive of Bella and I can see that maybe it would carry over into this universe.

She's pretty much the thread holding him together.  If she were to go away, I think he'd regress or break out or something.

“Hey,” I whispered, trailing my fingers across his jaw. He smiled and lifted his hand to my face, mimicking the movements of my own fingers. I flipped mine over and lightly brushed it across his forehead. He did the same. After what seemed like hours of this, I slowly moved down his arm, our hands eventually meeting at my face.

I cannot tell you how much this passage pleases me.  I thought the whole time in the library that he should be mimicking her movements, and boom, you give it to me with him touching her the way she's touching him.  That's just awesome.

I was extremely excited to see this updated and as always, I look forward to more of your great writing!

Author's Response:

I agree -- he'll likely never FULLY recover, it'll always be there.. but hopefully he'll be functional at some point ;) Aww, LOVE protective edward.. mmmmmmmmmm.

He's definitely mimmicking a lot! Not just in this passage even, but throughout the whole thing, he's been learning through watching her. If you look really closely, there is learning going on even in some earlier chaps :)I'm so glad you caught it!

Thanks so much for reviewing hon!

Well, I am glad to see more of Edward healing and trying to talk more to Bella. Not sure what the thing with Rosalie is all about, but I am sure it will be made clear later in the story or I just missed something. Thanks for explaining how Bella found out about the Cullens. Glad to see James is already gone. Looking forward to the next chapter. I mean it! :)

This is beautifully written. But......... I just can't bare it. It's too too painful. Edward has to be a strong character, not a pitiful cowering wreck - no matter what he's been through.

My greatest fear is that if you put them together, then his overwhelming emotion will be gratitude - and that's no basis for real passionate love, which we all know they both deserve.

And at the present time she is treating him like an animal in a zoo - never asking permission to share his space, kissing him, fondling him, just not the Bella we know. Likewise she is treating the Cullen residence like a hotel. Of course I realise this is an AU but please tell me the dynamics will change soon.

Everything above taken into consideration I cannot stop reading and think you have created a story which has made me think - and also post the longest review I have ever written.

Sending lots of love and admiration, Becks

Author's Response:

I'm sorry it's too painful for you :(

I don't actually believe that she's treating him like an animal in a zoo. I think he won't let anyone near him, and she's putting herself out there to try to help him. He's acting very animalistic, yes, but I'd argue that this doesn't stem from her treatment of him. I think, in fact, her talking to him, telling him goodnight, telling him where she's going and what she's doing, needing to be with him as much as possible, CLOTHING him, etc -- all directly refutes the 'animal in a zoo' idea. I think it shows that she does consider him a person, whole, etc.

I would also argue that there's a strong case for real love available to them, so long as Edward is able to develop his own sense of self/personality and doesn't require bella to be a whole person.

As for the hotel thing - I mean, sure. Depending on how you look at a hotel, I guess. She's eager to be there to spend time with Edward, the Cullens are happy to have her because she's helping Edward.. I don't necessarily look at this as a negative situation.

I... this review... I'm not really sure what to make of it. It's the middle of the night, so maybe that's the problem, but I can't actually see what you like about the story? All that I see is a list of HUGE elements of the story that you dislike.  But.. I'm glad you reviewed to voice your concerns, I'm glad you're sticking with it for now.

Hopefully it ends up working out for you,

- Michelle

Although I do miss Edward without a shirt, I'm so excited about his growth and comfort with Bella.  It's so endearing to see how much she cares for him.

You're doing such an excellent job of weaving such a complicated relationship between Edward and Bella and I can't wait to see what steps they take next time!

As hot as shirtless Edward is, in this case, I'm glad he's wearing clothes now.  The nakedness he had to endure before is a direct sign of his degradation and humiliation, so in that way, I'm very glad to see it go.

I find it horribly sad that Edward remembers nothing of his parents, but canon Edward remembered little as well.  I'm not sure if it will be better or worse for him.  Better, because he won't be grieving their loss or worse, because he will have no idea who he really is as a person.  Did that make sense?

I am wondering whether the laptop upset him because it was a form of technology he had never seen before, or if it was more like Bella surmised - something connected to those dark horrible decades of captivity.  I am very curious about those years.  In a way I'm desperate to know the details of what occurred, but on the other hand, it may be so horrific that it'll make me want to cry.  It wouldn't be the first time I've cried for Edward as a character.

I love his connection to Bella and how much he trusts her.  It sounds as though he can't read her thoughts, but is he reading the others' thoughts?  It seemed like it before, but I'm not so sure now.  Also, he's still afraid to the point of asking Bella to not hurt him even though she's promised not to over and over again.  Is this just residual terror he's experiencing or something else?

I love where you've taken this story so far, and I absolutely adored this wonderfully long chapter!  Can't wait for more, more, more!!! :-D

Author's Response:

I'm glad he's clothed too! He can be hot with a shirt and sweats, certainly :)

That makes total sense -- it makes him sort of lost, you're right. He really doesn't know himself at all, which must make everything very confusing to him!

Good question about the laptop, hopefully when those years come in to play, it'll all make sense.. yanno? But it's possible that it won't, heh.

It's a residual terror, i'd say. 90 years in captivity just puts him in this mindset.. that everyone can and will hurt him. It's probably not an easy thing to overcome, you know?

Thanks so much for reviewing

Awww, if I were feasting my eyes on him I think I'd miss shirtless Edward, bet Bella does, LOL.

Again, I just have to say how much I'm enjoy the interection between Edward and Bella.  I'm just dying for her to take him downstairs to meet the family and assuage some of their fears.  I'm waiting not so patiently for him to walk to that piano and play.  I know that (knowing Edward as we all do) he's going to sit down and start playing without ever knowing that he could.  in that I think some of the memories will break forth and we'll learn more about Edward.

LOVE his vulnerability.  I'm curious, has he grasped that he is a vampire, or what that means.  I know Bella told him.  Does he understand?

Well, can't wait for the beginning of next week, cause that seems like when your updates come out.  I drop anything and everything when that little message hits my inbox.

The family is going to go hungry the way I put aside making dinner for reading about our hurt, vulnerable vamp.

You're doing a great job, nothing to critcize.  Just keep those new chapters coming!!

Author's Response:

I bet she does too! Especially when the shirt gets in the way of her kiss. But at least she won't get as cold tonight :)

Yes, I think he knows he's a vampire, but I doubt he knows what he's capable of. Well, we'll find out, but if he's been locked up for 90 years, he really wouldn't know, would he? Unless they let him outside or something, some sort of structure that would contain him? Hmm.. interesting!

Thanks so much for reviewing hon! Don't let the family starve! :)
