When I started MS (ages ago - I'm an *old timer* at this now) there were very few JxB fics, and none addressed what I really wanted: Bella growing up and out of herself. It made no sense to me that a person would refuse to move on - ever - or that Jake would be so in love with the whiner she was usually portrayed to be. So, I had to write my own fic and, as you can see, sorta didn't stop.
The ending was in my head from the very beginning. A long-gone first love should be just that...<><3

I simply had to explore how things would have gone if just a couple of things had gone differently in the Saga. Never could justify the idea of someone completely refusing to heal - especially not with such an inspiring reason as Jacob Black!

This is probably the most amazing Jake and Bella fic I've ever read so far. Your characters are canon, but so more in-depth and descriptive. I'm starting to think you should have written the Twilight series!

I really enjoyed this story! I am a hardcore B & E fan, but I enjoy a well-written B & J story now and then. I particularly loved the ending scene with Edward. I could really feel Jacob's fear of her leaving him. Hope to read more of your stories.

Author's Response: A huge part of the motivation for writing MS was not only to have Bella end up with Jake, but also to explore Bella as she moves away from her passivity and starts becoming a participant in her own life.
Bella's refusal to allow herself to feel and think and grow was a major dissatisfaction with the Saga and, alas, with many fics. I don't find that very romantic or desirable.
Likely SM's Bella's fear of change and self-responsability is what made Edward and being a vampire seem appealing. Fic is a wonderful thing <><3
