The chapter was great despite the long wait. I would however recommend a brief summary at the beggining to remind us whats been going on. I find it would help keep me from having to go back a few chapters to get back up to speed with the story..
Author's Response: The summary would have been a good idea after my epic absence. Or, for most chapters. I sometimes find it difficult to remember what's happening in fics when they updated a just a few days ago (I read a LOT of them and mix them up in my head), so I see your point.

I think this was a good chapter. Bella needed to think and address what she feels about Edward. He hurt her very badly and just expected her to get over it. She doesn't seem to really know who she is at times anymore, and so she needs/needed the space to figure it out.
I do hope things get better b/c although I like angst, I like the mushy fluffy stuff too!
I do hope you update soon, but if it takes you a while to put out a chapter you can be proud of as opposed to a chapter that's just okay, I'm okay with waiting! Thanks for updating!!!
Author's Response: Thanks for your patience and the review. Bella did need some "thinking" time, so I'm glad you bought it and knew why I had to go there before things picked up again.

You know, with her revelations about being a "hypocrite" and lier, I think she's overthinking it and being too hard on herself... She keeps saying how what she's mad at Edward for is lying to her, but really his mistakes were so much more than that. I thought the line about how he took her bravest moment and turned it into humiliation, making her question herself, touched upon it more. Yes, the lying excuse is weak and she realizes it. And it is UNDERSTANDABLE why he did what he did. But the reason she is struggling against forgiving him is because he gutted her. It's not a fight between her head and her heart, so much as her heart's need to protect itself at war with its traitorous feelings for Edward. I'm one of those people who wished she didnt forgive him quite so easily in the books. Im excited for another WTF moment! I think there needs to be one more crazy event to get them back together, rather than Bella slowly coming around to Edward like he hopes. I think that this Bella is too self-protective of her emotions now and too stubborn for the latter to happen. So Im glad also that youve planned to force them together for a bit.
I was rereading and I have one question... When Edward was staring at Bella after her attack, she attributed it to one of two reasons: that he was either briefly entertained, or lusting after her blood. Obviously the former is false... At the time, I attributed it to him being mad at himself for not protecting her, and wanting to never let her out of his sight so as not to make that mistake again. But Im wondering if the bloodlust was part of it or not. I guess what Im asking is, how well is Edward in control of that part of him now, using a canon scale? (e.g. post meadow/when he could touch her--that he could not was a fear he brought up in your woods rain numbers vampire confrontation chapter, but he seems to be accept he can now, post James/when she was attacked on her birthday, post fake suicide/when he could help her with a cut while breathing evenly.)
Author's Response: Wow. Awesome review! So many interesting things to comment on...
(1) I too think Bella caved a bit too quickly in the books. Without giving away too much I will say that the progression of their reconcilliation will take some unexpected turns. I think the key is that it will take quite a bit of time for Bella to trust Edward again. Plus, he has issues trusting even himself (in the last chapter, part of him wanted her to keep pushing him away).
(2) Your question is an excellent one. I'm surprised more people haven't asked this b/c they *should* be. Bloodlust for Edward has substantially diminished. Though he hasn't been around Bella much lately, he is very much in control of his thirst. You pointed out several examples from canon where Edward has more confidence in his ability to be close to her. Like the post-fake-suicide/several-month absence in New Moon, IVO Edward has been away from Bella for awhile, yet mentally he knows he *has* to be with her and thus it's less of a problem for him to ignore his thirst. Plus, he got rather used to touching her back when they were friends, and that also gave him reason to suspect he was capable of close contact with her. As for the part in the woods where he told her he couldn't kiss her? Edward lied a lot that night, about a lot of things. His goal was to scare Bella and convince her she didn't want him. There's a lot more to it as well, but I've babbled on too much and I have to keep my mouth shut on some matters for future chapters. Again, your review was great! Thank you!

I can't tell you how satisfying it is to read a Bella with a spine, but still clearly a teenager. It takes the creepyweirddysfunctionalnoboundary (you know, the canon) to a much healthier place.
I love your prose. I am enthralled by your story. I can't wait to see where you take these characters next!

i have to say, well again, this bella is the bella that is all that is right with the world. the one that questions and IS bitter and bitchy, because that is no less than what edward deserves for his stupid cowardly ways. so what if she is OOC - that is what makes IVO better than the original.
the ABBA thing = hilarious. i think she should take that CD to her dish washing detention and blast it the entire time.
glad you got over your block - i was silently crying over no IVO updates, so you have made my week!
thank you thank you thank you!
Author's Response: Thanks, asrial! And you get the OOC-ness. You rock.

W.O.W
You should definitely NOT have been worried about this chapter! Every little change in emotion, from Bella realising she liked Alice as a friend to realising Edward understood her and she missed him (at this point I started singing Hallelujah in my head =D) was perfectly done, so that Bella didn't seem to out of character or the story feel too rushed. Fabulous!
OOHH! WTF moments!! And after this chapter, if anyone can pull that WTF moment off I think its gonna be you.
xoxo
Author's Response: I hope I can pull it off...it's going to happen either way, good or bad, though. Glad you thought it wasn't too rushed. I worry about transitioning Bella too quickly, given all the trauma she's been through lately.

I like it BETTER than the original *ducks for cover* (sorry Sptephanie) your character develepment is mesmerizing and i feel what your characters are feeling. I cant wait for detention and the WTF moment!!!
Author's Response: Thanks! Yay that you felt it was worth the wait...it was, like I said in the A/N, a more subtle chapter, so I was worried people would be like "I waited 2 1/2 months for this?" Thrilled that you liked it :)

I didn't hate this chapter - it was necessary. And I enjoyed it. I can't wait for the WTF moment - please don't make us wait too long for it!
Author's Response: I'll try and go as fast as I can, but I'm a pretty slow writer. And you didn't hate it? Awesome. THank you.

Welcome back Oxymoronic8! I was so excited to read the new chapter and really loved how you wrote Bella in it.
You certainly understand a lot about the human psyche, how it ducks responsibility, and pushes blame onto others, how it dismisses the real gifts it has and concentrates on running itself down. How many of us suffer from the same problems as Bella and Edward? Only those who deny their own vulnerability will remain unaffected by your brilliant story.
Not only is your writing powerful, but the dynamics between the characters - all of them, is vividly and plausibly executed. This story manages to avoid easy answers, preferring to acknowledge (indeed, highlight) the complexity and pain of personal growth and self-realisation.
Please continue soon!
Author's Response: "Only those who deny their own vulnerability will remain unaffected by your brilliant story." I love that! Does that mean if I get a critique from another reviewer, I can say "wolvesnvamps says you deny your own vulnerability and that's why you don't get it?" B/c I totally want to.

I aimed to smile apologetically at the mechanic, but my reflection in the glass told me I’d missed that mark. My lips quivered up into a desperate grimace, I was shivering both from the cold and fried nerves, my face was tear-stained, and my back hunched slightly. I looked deranged. In fact, if the mechanic tossed a bucket of water on me, I might pull a Wicked Witch of the West and cackle senselessly before melting into a puddle of insanity.
OMG that was hilarious. You are such an interesting, comical writer. I think you really have a great Bella capture here, and she is far more fun to read than SM's Bella in a lot of ways. Definitely more humorous at any rate. Thanks for an awesome chapter! I hope you can update again soon...seriously love this story.
Author's Response: Thanks! It's strange, but my humor comes out best admist soul-splitting angst. I think if I tried to write humor by itself, it would fail miserably.

Loved it! So glad Bella came to her realization at the end. Loved the line "the real game was between my heart and my head". Definitely sums up a lot of what she has been going through, and I am sure a lot of people can relate to that in their own lives and relationships.
And I just wanted to say, I read back a couple of chapters before reading this one, and the part where Edward slams the doors open, breaking the glass and then attacks Jacob, is one of the hottest scenes ever!! LOVED the image I got in my head with that scene! You wrote that perfectly!
Can't wait til the next chapter!
Author's Response: Edward attacking Jake was too fun to write. Even though I maintain IVO Jake is not a villian, part of me was exacting my own revenge on Eclipse/Kiss-Bella-Against-Her-Will Jacob when I wrote that... Thanks for your review!

O,
There really are no words, I just think this story is amazing. I have no issue with saying that IVO is my favorite fanfic and I read a lot of Twilight fanfic. I've been with you from the start and I literally bite my nails while reading as well as awaiting new updates. I cry with this story and that's not an easy feat. But the chapter where she tells him everything left me balling. So I just want you to know that I have been truly touched by this story and I'm going to stick with it as long as you do. I know I'm nobody special but I think your writing & story are both incredible, which has to be a reflection of the author herself. Hang in there!!!
Author's Response: L_O, you are somebody special! You are cool enough to not only (A) read my story but (B) write a review (C) in which you use boldface to make me feel better about my writing. Reading reviews like this one make me *want* to hit up my keyboard and keep going. Seriously, thank you!

Oh, happy heartfail! I was disgustingly giddy with excitement over this update, and it did not disappoint at all.
Even after the break (I didn't re-read; I'm saving my big IVO fest for when it's finished and I can print it out) I fell right back into your world and was with Bella every step of the way. It was not until I was reading your author's notes that I could go back and look at her point of view objectively, because throughout the chapter, if she was mad, i was mad; if she was crying and miserable then I was welling up. I wanted to throttle Edward at the beginning of this chapter and it was wildly frustrating to be in Bella's head and know that she had no real outlet for her anger. I'm going to crib a line from my own writing and say that no one should be allowed to be that irritating unless they are kickable as well.
It really says something that you can take a reader from being as mad at Edward as I was in the beginning and soften it down. It took me a little longer than Bella, since she's had days to process this and I've had fifteen minutes, but at the very end, I was so hoping she'd call him out of the woods. Her loneliness, again, is jarring but I see rays of hope. Having Alice around was a wonderful relief - Bella needs a friend that she can rely on and be honest with.
Don't even get me started on Jacob. I may want to kick Edward but I want to beat Jacob sideways. I know the boy is young but he needs a fast education in maturity, empathy, and self-control. It's not all about you, Wolf Boy. You don't get to shred someone nearly to death then angst about how you need them to understand.
OK, when my reviews descend into me lecturing imaginary characters I know it's time for me to stop. Sorry for the randomness; I'm excited and can't help myself. It is grand to have you back with us, just GRAND.

Author's Response: Ava, your reviews complete me. You've been with me since the beginning, and you're still here! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I'll stop creeping you out now, but I just had to tell you how much I appreciate your cheerleading.
What you said above about you feeling what Bella was feeling: one of the nicest things you can say about that chapter. I kind of felt them , too, as I was writing. I'm so happy that came across to you.
Oh, and I saw you got some love over on TLYDF! You're such a celebrity! Congrats!

Half way through reading this chapter I got a realization at how much i love your writing, it's beautiful. you seriously have such a gift.

Heya x I absolutely Luurve your story!! It is one of the best Twilight Fanfictions I have ever read!! I love the way you stay true to the characters and their personalities rather than changing them to make it easier for yourself. I love the story line and the way you haven't made Alice seem like a nosy annoying kid like so many people do. I love your story and the plot and your writing style. I love it all, every single thing about your story!! Love it. Love you. Love Kyra xx
Author's Response: Thanks, Kyra. Alice is way more fun to write than I ever thought she could be, so I try to throw her into the mix whenever I can. Glad you're enjoying it.
