One comment and I hope you take it as a compliment and not a negative criticism, I would have liked to have seen you do more with the picnic. You know, given Bella and Edward a little time to themselves. Something you could have expanded on with the whole “We'll grieve, we'll heal, and it will be all right. We'll get married, and try again, and we'll be all right.” Just a thought, still a great chapter and can't wait for the next!!!!

Author's Response: i never have a problem with constructive criticism! the story has a pretty fast pace driven by key conversations and dialogue, and we skip a LOT of non-essentials. i felt like the meatiest part of their conversation had taken place, and expanding the picnic itself seemed to slow things down. in my imagination, after that conversation, their afternoon consisted of quiet comfort, enjoying the sunny spring day and trying not to dwell on the painful experiences they'd just shared. i see it in my head almost like a film, the camera slowly panning away from them on the beach, and switching to the throne room in Volterra....
the next chapter spends a little more time showing them working on rebuilding intimacy and communication.

Wonderful exploration of Bella's mixed emotions over a painful event, complex situations bring on complex reactions.
One of the things (among many) I've always liked about your supernatural fics is the "humanizing" of Edward. Even with his abilities and "birth order" in the Cullen family (everyone feels that aspect, I think, even tho' it's not acknowledged), he's helpless here in the face of a loved one's suffering--and not in control of his own. He can't just up and leave this time ...

Author's Response: thank you so much bb - yes, complex situations and complex reactions. i certainly threw a lot at them at once - reunion, rape, pregnancy, miscarriage, Jane... they are both facing an uphill battle to sort it all out and recover from all of it. and one thing my Edward will ever do again is leave.

You did a good job painting the picture of having a miscarriage. Especially a first-time one. It takes me back a few years. i actually had 3 myself. but the first was the worst. and those were exactly the thoughts that went through my head too... the sorrow combined with relief. Such confusing emotions.

I loved ur story the first time ! Is this a complete rewrite or just slight changes to it. I can't remember if it was ever finished ive been away for a while ! :)
Author's Response: hi there! glad you've stuck with me! it's a re-edit but not a total rewrite. there are some definite changes, a few added scenes, but they do not to the core elements of the plot. the story was unfinished on hiatus for almost 2 years, but will be posted complete by the end of the summer.

Very touching chapter -- esp. for someone like myself who also miscarried many years ago. The feeling of guilt is quite overwhelming even when you know it's not your fault. Looking foward to the next chapter!!

This waiting is the worst part; knowing the eventual outcome, but unable to put it behind you yet. I will stay sad for a while longer. I hope I am remembering that Edward gets support, too, since traditionally the father has to be the "strong" one, and he is hurting as much as she is (more, if you believe that vampires feel everything more intensely).
Author's Response: yes - the next chapter looks up. the whole family will grieve in their own way - we only see a bit of it, but yes - they all feel the loss. :(

Glad the convo with Jake happened; when reading the Saga (even before I , um, phased) I was extremely cross with Bella for her cavalier treatment of someone who'd been such a good friend. He deserved an acknowledgement, even if she couldn't return his feelings in kind. Should be interesting to see the reactions of the Pack to the current developments. <><3

yes well it is normal to bleed sometimes in pregnancies. She is still in the beginning. What happens if she miscarries. Does Aro want that? that is a horrible thought.
