This is a lovely story.  My favorite line:

"For the first time, I was grateful for what I was, because if I was not immortal, I would never have found Esme, and she was worth it all."

Thanks for writing.

I enjoyed this story! It seems so very Carlisle-ish! The only part that annoyed me was when he said that he was damning Esme to a life as a vampire, although I thought that it was only Edward who thought that, and that Carlisle thought that they still had souls...

Great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks! And I see your points. I probably didn't consider that when writing, since I actually wrote this awhile ago and it was one of my first stories. Carlisle does believe they still have souls, but it's still hard to change someone because you don't know if they would want to be a vampire and live for eternity. Even though I'm sure some of us wish they could be vampires, it isn't an easy "life". He didn't know if he could do that to Esme. That was my mindset. Not necessarily "damning" her soul, but damning her to an eternity as a vampire.

I love it. I am such a sucker for these pre-twilight fan fics. Keep it up.

Nice one shot! I love Carlisle and Esme. You should continue this. Very nice writing,

I really love it when we get to see Carlisle actually act like a vampire, and you had him jump off a cliff and land on his feet!  That was awesome!  I also liked how Edward was the one who could see what Carlisle needed, even when Carlisle couldn't.  That was a nice touch.
