OK--first of all, I am VERY nervous about the cards Bella hid in the garage. We KNOW that some vampire is going to find it and give her hell, but which one?  Suspense will be killing me for days!  Next, the dance floor action was very erotic, nice choice of venue.  Lastly, Edward discovering the thong, in his car, in the middle of heated action--that says it all right there.  Can't wait for Chap. 9!!

oh my goodness.. my brain is short circuiting right now & I'm actually pretty amazed I can even type a coherent review. This chapter was so ridiculously hot, I can't wait to see what Edward kind of game Edward is going to play with Bella!

Number ten does deserve a review!!  Throwing Bella's dream in there as a catalyst to this chapter was shear genius.  I still find their dialogue incredibly real and true to character.  Well done!

Well maybe you don't have Edward, but you must have somebody to give you inspiration *waggles eyebrows suggestively* Though in fairness the thoughts of Edward real or imaginary is enough to send me into a spin so I can only imagine what your world is like and you writing about him.

"No way!  I'm a historian too.  What is your field, work, etc.?  I teach early American history."

Small world!  Well, I should clarify that I am a returning college student in my last semester for my BA.  I have come a long way to even be able to call myself as a historian, as I never thought I would make it, but no matter what I will always feel like a "student" of history.  I am a British historian, although my college does not have a separate degree for British history anymore, so it's just history with an emphasis on Ancient/Medieval and Modern Europe.  My classes though are almost all British history.  I consider myself a cultural historian more than a materialist, and I really love theory!  It kicks my butt trying to understand it sometimes *coughs, Foucault, coughs* but I find the it fascinating.

I did take a breadth course last semester called Women in U.S. Colonial Times.  It was fabulous!  You probably already know about this, but just in case you haven't, check out the book Cherokee Women: Gender and Culture Change, 1700-1835 by Theda Perdue.  There is at least one reference to vampire-like figures that are similar to SM's vampires.  I cracked up reading that, and wrote "Twilight vampires!"  in the margin of my book. 

I don't plan on being a teacher, as I do not have the patience to deal with us crazy students.  My hat is off to you.  May I ask what level you teach?

As silly as it still seems to me, I am thinking that I might try to write some historical fiction once I graduate.  Maybe.  I am using fanfic as a way of trying out fiction writing.

I teach college (at the U.S. Naval Academy--MEN IN UNIFORMS, ahem.) and as I always tell my students:  you ARE a historian when you're in my class.  So, no qualifications, you're a historian.

I love British history.  My area in colonial history is the colonial Chesapeake.  And in September I had the opportunity to go on a 8-day study tour of British historical sites related to the history of colonial Maryland.  It was fantastic.  We went to the Isle of Wight where the ships Ark and Dove departed from (that carried the founders of Maryland), we went to several historic homes related to the Calvert family (including Wardour--the ruin that, if you haven't been, you might possibly know as the burned-our castle at the beginning of Kevin Costner's movie version of Robinhood), etc.  It was great.  And I came up with a possible research topic while we were there.  London is one of my favorite places in the whole world, especially now that I know Rob Pattinson is roaming around there somewhere!

I'll have to take a look at Perdue's book for that reference.  That's hilarious!

Putting your historical training into historical fiction is not silly at all.  In fact, it's a very good outlet for that knowledge.  And historical fiction remains popular.  So get to thinking up and writing that first novel already!!!
