Loved it!

That was nice.  A little out of cannon and a lot of pressure on poor Edward (I thought maybe he suffered alone a lot more--since SM said so little), but sweet.  I don't think he would have undermind Bella and confessed his love so outwardly, because he is so sure he is undeserving.  But I enjoyed your take.  It's like having a conversation with another fan, only I don't get to talk.  So, this is me saying thanks.

I've LOVED this story, I've always wanted to be in on the visit with Renee.  The only part I think could use a little work is Edwards opening up to Renee and Phil.  He always knows what's appropriate to say (isn't that one of the things we love about him?).  His comments struck me as kind of inappropriate.  One reason I think that is becuase he brings it up at an odd moment and introduces it kind of weird and also that most people think of "loners" as kind of dangerous or maladjusted.  I can't see Renee and Phil being comforted by that.

Author's Response:

Thanks for your comments.  The fact is that on the morning of their departure, Renee told Bella that she had some uneasiness about Bella's relationship with Edward.  So he couldn't have charmed them completely.  I think they started with grave misgivings based on the fact that he suddenly dumped Bella and left town with no forwarding address.  He was in a pretty big hole based on that.  If this were my daughter I'd be very suspicious of him and what's amazing is how accepting Renee is at the time of the wedding.  So, I think he had to do something to try to justify himself.  You're right that he brings it up at an odd moment, but he didn't have a lot of choice.  In general he and Bella did not speak about the break-up, and Renee and Phil don't seem like the type to initiate a searching conversation.  As for what he said about being a loner, it was true.  I think that he knew he wasn't going to be able to sweet-talk them.  He had to win them over with honesty.

I also think that he is not always appropriate, such as when he suggested drinking wolf blood in the far north or when Bella worries about her family and he says in a few decades everyone she knows will be dead or by refering to the engagement when he knew Jacob was listening.  I think his emotional intelligence is not as advanced as his academic knowledge.  He wants what he wants, and his attempts to get it aren't always perfectly smooth.

I loved this. Your little details were great. A couple of my favorite lines were: "You're awake!" and "I love your cooking, Sweetheart." So cute.

Author's Response:

Thanks very much.  I love when people tell me their favorite lines and the ones you mention are some of mine too!

I think you did a great job with this story.  I love that you had Edward really share his feelings and tell her how he felt about leaving Bella... and then for Bella to get to be so open!  Excellent!

that was so sweet of Edward to explain......

That is tough about giving up being a mom, I am surprised he wasn't more concerned with that in the books.

I think that it was very sweet of him to open up to Renee like that, I'm just glad it went over well, I was afraid for him

Reviewer: AmberrrJune (Signed) · Date: June 28, 2009 02:02 PM · On: Chapter 6

you had him catch an apple, clever

Author's Response:

Thanks for noticing that!  It would probably be more natural for him to just put it in the bag himself, but I couldn't resist him holding it out to her.

sounds like what edward would do.......i like how phil complimented him in his mind at the end....

Author's Response:

Thanks! I decided that just like Bella appreciated what was "behind the face," Edward should impress her parents with his character, not his enhanced looks and abilities.

lol your end notes are funny. I enjoy the fluff too.

So interesting, they don't even mention Phil in the book. The whole entire trip is so short in the actual book there's a lot you can elaborate on I guess. And Renee's thoughts are so interesting.

Oh I love when they go visit Renee.....I'm looking forward to reading the next 11 chapters!

Wow!  This was a wonderful "missing pages" story!  And your summation here at the end helps, too.

They really are such a cute couple and you do them justice. :)

This is very cute & skillfully done- thanks for sharing it with us. I really enjoy that it takes place in a period of time that I dont often see covered in the fancitions & you nailed the established characters personalities with a bullseye while doing an excellent job further developing the less established characters like Phil. Loved it!!

I love your writing!  (I'm sure Edward loves it too ;-)
