Thanks for the note on the translation. I took Spanish in high school but used a translator app for that section. Guess it wasn't as accurate as I thought!

Oh my gooodnesss what an amazing chapter, the last two. Edward said some beautiful things. I never heard even Vamp Edward in cannon say anything as wonderful and beautiful as your words.
You really played it close. Thought it was strange Edward did not hear Rose's thought, but I guess they ahd to make it real. Real. Alice was hurt, jasper, Carmen all of them it was real. Wow. Can't wait for the update
Author's Response: Thanks, sandy!! Writing that chappie was tough and fun bc I wanted to keep you in suspense as long as possible. I don't think anyone really believed Edward would kill Bella, but toward the end, it was reeeeally close!

Author's Response: Yeah, that was part of the challenge here. I don't think anyone really believed Bella would leave Edward, but I wanted to wait until the very last minute for her to decide.
And I adore Emmett. I was thrilled when he came along to whisk Bella to safety :)

Of course the Cullens didn't abandon Bella & Edward! My guess is that Victoria had no intentions of letting Charlie live even if Bella had died & that he been beaten badly & that's why he's barely alive. OR, she was planning to turn him & unleash him on Forks

I was reading on the edge of my seat... in the back of my mind I knew you wouldn't kill off Bella, that there had to be something brewing, but I think I chewed my nails to stumps in anticipation. Brilliant.

Author's Response: I hate when fics create "Bad Tanya" for no good reason. Tanya wasn't "evil" in canon... she had an unrequited thing for Edward, but she gets treated like a first-class homewrecker.
By now, you've read Chs32/33 and realized Tanya is not the bad guy here, but I totally understand your fears. Glad to know they were unfounded... at least in this case :)

Oh, I have *never* read such a perfect account of Edward! And I have never loved Rosalie like I do right now! If you've ever seen "Sense and Sensibility" with Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman, there's a quote from Elinor to Marianne I've always thought would fit Edwawrd to Bella perfectly. "What do you know of my heart? What do you know of anything but your own suffering?" I've always thought Bella was very callous toward Edward, minimizing his suffering and the struggle and pain he faced to be with her. She was so wrapped up with herself, she never truly saw him, in my opinion. I agreed with Edward's statements at the end of New Moon, that he couldn't believe Bella could believe so easily that he didn't love her after everything he'd told her and done. Her faith in him was too easily broken. I absolutely love every word of this chapter, the way Rosalie made Bella see how little she truly understood Edward was absolutely perfect! I really should be going to be--work tomorrow--but I've got to read the next chapter!
Author's Response: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I saw S&S many moons ago (Lawd, did that make me sound old! LOLOL) but those lines do describe Edward to Bella. I think Edward was wrong here (as he was in canon) to try to run Bella's life, but I also think Bella grossly underestimates his plight.
Rosalie is one of my favorite characters--hence the reason I wrote "Black Ice," which focuses on the pre-canon relationship between Rose and Ed--so I was thrilled to use her in this way. I honestly think she and Bella would make great friends if canonRose weren't so stuck on the loss of her humanity, so this was my funny way of bridging the gap between them a bit.

Ho-ly crap!
While I love this so far and love your version of Bella, I do think it needs to be remembered that Edward is very much a product of the era he lived during, and during that time it would've been perfectly normal fo the man to make unilateral decisions for the couple. That is simply the way his brain was wired from infancy, and I don't think the intervening decades would've changed it because vampires don't change, they're frozen as they are at the moment of their change. I'd also love to see Bella's honest answer if he'd flipped it around and asked her what she'd be willing to do if she threatened his safety. I think they are both products of their worlds, and that their worlds are very different places, so much so they might have been different planets rather than just different centuries. I can't wait to see how you reconcile their very different outlooks. Off to chapter three!
