Gee, Phoenix is in overdrive!  We barely have time to read a chapter, and here comes another!       :-P

"What the hell happened to my free will?(...) How could a bond meant to strengthen push me away from her when she was in danger?"       "Was she?"       "In danger?"       "Yes." Alice was clearly trying to make a point. "Or were you just thinking she was because it was a fight?"       As Alice herself said once about Jasper, overprotective fool!       :-T

"Damned dogs."       Hmm, he won't score points with Bella if she hears him saying things like that.       :)

"Jacob, Billy's son and Thomas' grandson, is too young."       Shooting him a glance, Bella confirmed this. "He is. He's only a teenager. Fourteen years old, I think. I, um, got him a bike when he was five."       "What?"       "I get all of their sons and grandsons bikes when they're five. It's my way of – of being involved, Edward."       Interesting.  I thought she did that just for the Uleys.  But I'm not surprised.       ;)

'"All right, Isabella. I'll put it before the Council. Billy isn't going to like it though," he warned.(...) Thoughts went through his mind of previous discussions with Billy Black, including a near-shouting match about having a Cold One even trying to fill the place of the Mighty Spirit Warriors of legends.'       Ephraim, Thomas...  All the Blacks were always friendly with Bella.  Billy's prejudice, after all her years of dedication is...  disconcerting.       :-/

'And I don't give a flaming vampire's ass, but you should marry her.(...)  You best do right by Isabella. Or you will regret it.'       Seeing Quil as a teenager, who would say he would care so much for Bella eventually?       ^_^

'Edward. We've heard from the Volturi. They're coming.'       What the heck?  Why now, after all these years?  The last bounty hunter was that girl that said Aro wouldn't punish her, right?  Damn, just when they settled everything with the Quileutes...       :(

Author's Response:

Good morning, Costa!

Phoenix Rising is totally in overdrive. Amazing woman. :)

Yeah... Edward is a mite overprotective, but that's entirely in character, don't you think? lol  He does need to watch how he refers to the Quileutes in front of Bella, to be sure.  I'm thinking he usually does. ;-) In front of her.

I liked the idea of Bella keeping track of the Pack's descendents over the years. I just didn't think I needed to write out EACH time she did it, you know?

Billy's in mourning, here, and in the movie version of Twilight, Billy is really anti-vamp, it seemed to me.

I like how Quil grew and how his relationship with Bella changed over the decades.  I think it's a good thing.

And of course the Volturi are coming. *grin* I made them out to be bad guys from the very beginning...don't think I'm going to abandon them entirely, do you?  Edward said something to the effect that it might be thirty years, in canon, before the Volturi remembered about Bella...so they had time to do whatever he felt had to be done to keep her safe.  That the Volturi would let large bulks of human time lapse seemed to suit, then.

The last bounty hunter was not acting entirely altruistically. Remember, she was there to gain something for herself.  ;-)

And thank you again for the smile!  It's always a pleasure!

eeeeek! D: :o new wolves!!

Author's Response:

Good morning, Nali!

New wolves?  Where?  *smile*  Are you peeking?  Bella has a good relationship with the entire Quileute Nation (apart from Billy Black) either personally or as a whole, so even wolves would not be a bad thing in her perspective.

Thanks so much for reading!

1st:  I was hoping the Volturi would be coming... but then again, unless Bella's shield has the potential to do what it did in Breaking Dawn, and the Volturi that are coming are only a handful of them... I wonder how they could possibly beat them.  Which probably means something diplomatic - not good.  :-(   Of course I'm only speculating.  :-)

I can't stand that "sure, sure" saying.  I'm so glad that it didn't stick.  I remember when I read SM's books, I kept on saying; "who says sure, sure."  SM had Bella saying it... Charlie saying it... and of course Jacob and the other Quileutes.

Thanks again for sharing your awesome talent - and we'll see what develops!

Author's Response:

Good morning, JRParz!

Ahhh...I am not fond of entirely diplomatic solutions. I hope you will like what I did with them when they arrive.

LOL The sure, sure thing I just had to throw in there. I liked the idea of it originally coming from BELLA and passing to Jake over the ages.  Sort of my annoying "neener" at canon. Sad, but true.

We are close to winding up, here. :) I hope you enjoy the rest of it! Thanks so much for your wonderful remarks and shiny ratings!

oh no.  nononono.  I hate the volturi!

Author's Response:

Good afternoon, angelblue!

Ohhh yes. They have been looming like an evil cloud over this story since the beginning.  I couldn't just let them dissipate, could I? ;-)

They're such excellent villains.

Thank you so much for reading! And for the pretty stars! :)

'Bella heard a sigh and a giggle. "I did not see this happening."       "We need to clear out. Now."       "How reinforced are these walls, Esme?'       "Oh, look at them. Aren't they sweet?"       "Jasper?"       "Yep. This is it for them. Alice? Sugar? I really,  really  need..."       Bella heard all of that, her mind kept it within her memory, but she didn't register any of the words. Only barely took note, in fact, of the closing of three doors and one window and the revving of a car engine.'       Heheheh!  Emergency evacuation!       P-)

'Her life with Levi tumbled through her mind and she closed her eyes against a strange melancholy. "He knew this, he knew what he had had and he – he loved me anyway."'       Sweet.

'And they were first accented, then covered by blood. The blood of Thomas Black, Chief of the Quileute Nation.'       Poor Thomas!  He was so nice with Bella...  A weak consolation that she got the culprit.       :(

'She shook her head and felt venom sting in her eyes again. "I can't abandon them, Edward. They're my family, too."       She ran, then, grief making her chest ache while she bore her burden. "I won't leave them unprotected, Chief Black. I promise."'       Yes, that is our Bella.  This answers my question from the last review about Bella leaving her job or not.  Just don't know how they will work this out       :-|

A well made mix of happiness and sorrow, LJ.

Author's Response:

Good afternoon, Costa!

Aw, yes, and I am indeed smiling again. :)

Thank you. I wanted to share the joy and the sorrow here.  One reviewer on FFn said something to the effect that my favorite flavor must be bittersweet. Maybe that's why I keep doing this to my characters.

Glad you enjoyed the mating bond stuff and that you feel I answered your question. I honestly try to keep in character as is possible. lol

There are 22 total chapters in this, so we've got there more to go!  Thanks so much for reading and rating and for my smiles. :)

Author's Response:

Good morning, hayleyhoo!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

Yeah....the chief's death was necessary to solidify and exemplify the need for a Protector, so...yeah.

Next chapter is in the queue!

Nooo ; ; Not Thomas!! I liked him ; ;

Yay! Edward and Bella are mated!! I like your view on how the bond works =o never seen it before and I think it's neat :D

Muahaha x3 Never underestimate the old wolf! Heed his threat, Edward! >:D :D

Author's Response:

Good morning, Nali!

YES! I know. I am horrid. Someone recently asked for a bodycount from my fanfic stories and I think I'm up to 30.  *wince*

Glad you enjoyed my version of The Mate Bond. I do enjoy a bit of fun. lol

Ohhhh...Quil will be around to, er, keep after Edward. LOL It's fun.

Thanks for reading!!

Okay, I just got around to reading "Christmas" & "Bond."  -  Wow!  Talk about putting those two on the fast track!  :-)

God, I love Alice... and of course she would be the one to convince skiddish Bella to come to the Cullens house for Christmas.  I loved how everyone cleared out like a Tornado hit when they acknowledged that Edward and Bella connected.  Your mating (and even bonding for that matter) is obviously not canon - but I must admit - a lot cooler.  I love how they can't be apart from one another.

Anyway, thanks tons for this incredible tale!  And obviously I look forward to MORE!

Author's Response:

Good morning, JRParz!

LOL I generally slide in the next chapter as soon as I get word the prior was validated. My V-beta has been SO QUICK this week! I am all happy. :)

Alice is a delight, to me. I tried to keep her optimism and energy at high gear while making her compassionate and careful.

Oh yeah, post Bond Discovery? Yeah, they all KNOW what happens. lol  No one really wants to be around to listen to the initial, cough, consummation. I know the bond isn't canon, but I really had fun with it. :) I've decided it's how I ALWAYS want my vampire mate bonds to play out. Which could make for interesting stories. Hmmm. ;-)

I'm so glad you're enjoying my AU. It's so fun to play here. LOL

Thanks for reading and the marvelous rating!!

Wow.  Who knew.  Will the coven protect the Rez or will they move on and take Bella away?  You keep me waiting.

Author's Response:

Good morning, angelblue!

Who knew about which part? :)

The protection of the Reservation is of paramount importance to Bella, as I think she tried to tell Edward.  She will not allow them to be unprotected, as she promised over Thomas Black's body.

So...you'll have to see how that works out. ;-)

Thanks so much for reading and for the generous rating!

Thank you. I enjoyed writing this story enormously.  Thanks for reading!

'She had learned a lot about him from the members of his coven. Enough that she had had the feeling that they – all of them, with the possible exception of Jasper Whitlock – had the insane idea that she could be his partner and thus round out the family.(...)       "He wants to meet with you." "Oh, you'll have to tell Edward that when you see him." "Ever think of getting a new car? Edward's our car collector and Rosalie's our mechanic, so if you ever need anything..." "Oh, Edward's a mindreader, you know. We think his effective radius is about a mile – but he's never told us exactly if it's beyond that."'       Nah!  She is just being paranoid.       :-P

'Alice was a fascinating person. If she had been the only Cullen to have come to Forks, Bella would have been willing to petition for her to have unrestricted access to the Reservation.'       Bella & Alice.  Never fails!       :)

'She dropped her shield eventually. And conducted a small experiment of her own as they ran back to the house. Edward? Can you hear me now?       He stumbled – actually tripped over his own feet to come to a sliding fall that ended at the trunk of a huge pine tree. Pinecones showered him and Esme, who was nearest, while Edward just gawped at her.'       HAHAHAHAAAH!      X-D

A fine time with the Cullens.  Bella seems happy.  I'm glad!

'He crossed to her and took her hand in his, skin touching skin –       And her world changed. Permanently and forever.'        Uops!  This sounds hauntingly familiar!  Just on the wrong species.       :-P

Hmm, I wonder if La Push will lose it's Protector, or gain another...

Author's Response:

Good evening, Costa!

LOL  Paranoid? Never say so. lolol

I like Bella and Alice. I think they're so cute. :)

I am so glad you liked Edward's pinecone moment. :D I had fun with that. I did want the Cullens to not overwhelm her and I think Alice's plan went well. :)

My vampire mate bond is ... well, kind of instantaneous. (I have an affinity for compelled relationships. I don't know why.)

So...will Bella bail on her Protectorship or what?  Gooooood question.....

Edward wants to know, too. :) Stay tuned! :D

Thanks so much for reading, reviewing, and scattering so many stars in my direction!

So vampires just have to touch to be mated to each other. Like the wolves have to look in the eyes of the person they imprint on?

I'm glad she's enjoying herself. I laughed out loud when Edward tripped! That will take his ego down a notch or two! Lol

Update soon, I just love this story!

Dixie

Author's Response:

Always a pleasure, Mizz Dixie, ma'am! :)

In the LJ Summers current vampire studies... Yes. It's skin on skin to make it happen. (This would explain the electric jolt made famous in canon -- but Bella was a human then and they didn't experience the full effect. Good thing too. Wait for the next chapter.lol)

I loved making Edward trip. I really, really did. :)

The next chapter is in the queue! Thanks so much for reading and for the super stellar rating!

Author's Response:

Hello, Dixie!

Yes, Edward is in a TOTAL snit. lol  He really is kind of narrow-minded in some ways, isn't he?  He'll improve. ;-)  Bella ... is not a pushover. lol

'How could any vampire be intimate with such a stinking wolf?(...)  Bella Milano – he preferred to think of her by the name she had given to Jasper in 1947(...)  "They're not even her kind! How can they be her family?"'       Prejudiced him, huh?  Not a surprise.  He was in the books, too.  Initially.  You are staying in character.  Very good.

And, maybe, am I detecting a hint of jealousy in the mix?       ;)

'Horrified, Edward turned to stare directly into Jasper's eyes. No further communication was needed.'       Curious.  Does he already see the Volturi as the Bogeyman at this point?

'Esme snorted. "You've become spoiled, Edward. Most of our kind live in less pleasant circumstances than she does. She seems content. Don't judge."       "I'm not judging. I'm remarking."'       Not judging.  Yeah!  Right!       P-)

Suzanna, huh?  So, this time, Edward isn't a first timer, either.  Another twist.       :)

"He's here. What is he doing here?"(...)  Hands on hips, her denim-clad legs set lightly apart, she glared at Edward. "Well? You were not invited. Go away."       Ouch!  I knew he was being too pushy!  By the way, his excuse for coming was so lame...       :-P

Interesting like almost every author thinks Edward is unable to not screw things up when it comes to Bella...       P-)

'Imagine, a Bella who doesn't fall all over herself at the sight of Edward Cullen. ;-)'       Well, not so hard.  A different Bella, who had a different life; and had the good old Levi.  By the way, was she specifically avoiding him before he forced his presence in Emmet-Rosalie's visit, or was it just by chance he was being left for last?       :-]

Author's Response:

Hello, Costa! Lovely to see you!

I apparently got your other review, responded to it and everything, and then it went away! LOL

Gak!

Thanks again for making me smile. :)

Glad you appreciate Edward's characterization -- even if I am mean to him and making him screw up with Bella. All will be well. :D

Bella was purposefully avoiding him, yes. Sometimes, when someone impacts someone else powerfully, they will hold themselves aloof. For Bella, he represents a change in a world she had ordered around herself. She has to think about it. About him. And she does. :) But all will be well.

Sorry I lost the other response!!  But I do thank you for the lovely review and smiling stars!

Oho!  The legendary chapter 15!  Lemme see, lemme see...

'Though the graduating class from the Reservation's high school was small, the entire community was invested in these young people and there was a huge turn-out to see them get their diplomas. Sam Uley's great-grandmother, for all intents and purposes, was no exception. Bella drifted near the side door, leaning against the outer wall of the main assembly room, keeping her eye on the raised platform.'       She couldn't resist, huh?  Hmm, I imagine what Sam will make of it when he knows his great-grandma ...       :)

'Yes! His was among them. Jasper Whitlock with the grin and the slight accent. Texas. Yes.       She didn't swear too often, but a streak of words as blue as any that the Pack had used in the forties and fifties slid from her mouth while she retreated to the shadows of the forest.'       Uh-oh!  Jasper is in trouble.       :-P

"I didn't expect to find you here. I'm Carlisle Cullen and I was passing through to meet with the chief of the Quileute people, as per an old arrangement."       And the Cullens are back.  Much better than a Volturi strike team, huh?       X-)

"Now the families with the right bloodlines – and maybe even others – won't feel like they can go to the hospital, because you're there. (...)  You have to consider that your coming could be a real problem for the Quileutes."       Hmm, when it happened in the books, I thought it was only their distrust of Carlisle that kept the Quileutes away from the hospital.  I didn't consider this angle...  Not that the distance helped, in the end.  There was a Wolf populational burst anyway.       :-/

'"No! No, stop! No, I – I can't. Too many. Too many of you right now. I – I'm sorry. Please – please excuse me," she managed to stammer. She was entirely unnerved by the sudden near-surrounding of so many vampires.'       Whoa!  I didn't realize Bella was so, huh...  vampirephobic?

I see what you meant when you said they would freak Bella out...       :-]

Author's Response:

Good evening, Costa!

I love reading your selections! Truly, you give me the biggest grins.

Sam...will run into Bella eventually... Mwahaha. You'll have to wait to find out his opinion. :D

Jasper is in trouble. But he's a good guy and actually takes a shine to her.

The Cullens are WAY better than the Volturi. But. Don't think everyone's outta the woods yet. ;-)

Yeah! I am going from the standpoint that vampire contact influences the whoosh of phasing.  In the end, the Council thinks they get it figured out. :D

Bella is REALLY nervous around others of her kind in quantity. lol  This is something they will all have to work on...but they will

Thanks so much for the smile on my face AND the super starry rating!
