Wow. Renee is just like anybody would expect her to be. Phil, on the other hand, is quite non-cannon. Then again, cannon doesn't say much about him. Also, the idea that Renee would want another child is far-fetched. Then again, maybe it was Phil's wish.
I hope that Edward will make Phil to pee his own pants.
Is Charlie (and Sue) going to a**hole as well?

I just think that from Cannon we get a Renee that wants to be young, and having a family with Phil-especially after Bella and her have their falling out fits. Beyond that she chose Phil over Bella in cannon when she stayed with him and missed graduation. I know this is a strech...but yeah it was fun to write.
A good idea...wish I had thought of it.

OMG That was intense!!!!
I loved the birthday it was perfect exactly what she needed from him and he was still ableto be himself with her without drowning her in all that he is...
Poor Edward hes proably witnessed more then he ever wanted to with this meeting. Renee is nuts and phil is a perve and Bellas right its going to take a huge slap in teh face for Renee to wake up but by the time taht happens it will be too late.. I am looking forward to Charlie and Sue I believe they will be a little mroe reserved and harder to talk to and get details from.. Edward will probably see alot of things in Charlies head because he gets the up close and personal of exactly what she was liek right after he left the damage he caused before her damage became self inflicted...

Thank you so much for updating I was wondering when you would update. I love how Edward just sat there but it must be hard for him not to be able to say anything that will give away the fact he reads minds.

I can't wait to hear Edward's POV during this scene! Since he can read minds, I'm sure he can see Bella's allegations against Phil are true. I'm sure he also has his thoughts on Renee and her selfishness. Overall, I think he wanted to say/do something, but knew it wouldn't benefit him and Bella in the long run. He wanted to let Bella fight her own battles, instead of trying to take care of her. Although I kind of hoped he would lash out, maybe even use some of Renee's memories and thoughts against her, he stayed quiet for her own good.
I liked Bella's birthday. It was just ... her. It was also a big step, I think. I'm fairly certain that when Alice heard it was Bella's birthday, she'd want to buy her a million gifts. To be honest, although Alice caved to Edward in New Moon (leaving Bella behind), I'm fairly certain there were plenty of times when he caved to her. I'm happy he stood his ground and wasn't strong armed into breaking Bella's mandates.
Renee and Phil can go suck eggs ... that's all I can say for now. I'm fairly certain there's more to them that meets the eye, but as for now, they can just suck eggs. I feel bad for their son.
I have to be honest, this chapter really hit home for me. Very recently, I had a relative metaphorically throw me under the bus. She's very similar to Renee in the sense that she's selfish, childish, unfeeling, and all in all, she's evil (I wouldn't go so far as to say Renee is evil, but rubbing someone's faults in their face IS evil). I ultimately came to the conclusion to cut her out of my life. There are times when you just can't find a median with someone, and the only logical choice is to cut them off. Renee is blinded by her immaturity and vanity, and although she may love Bella, she doesn't love her daughter enough to see the truth.
Bravo on showing the complexities of their relationship, and a huge round of applause for Bella for standing up for herself. I can't wait to see how things go with Charlie. I'm not sure why, but I feel like it'll go much better. He always was the clearheaded one. Although he won't be happy about Edward, if it means getting his daughter back, I'm sure he'll deal.

1) You might get the Edward reaction you want but not when you think you'll get it. There will not be an Edward side of this chapter but the next will give us some of his thoughts.
2) He was strong against Alice, though he did give in against the cards- he didn't want to bring them at all. I had other birthday plans but yet it never went over well when I got to Bella's reaction.
3)I feel for their son too...not sure if there is more than meets the eye. As of now we've seen the last of them.
4)Sometimes you have to cut people free, it hurts but it has to be done. I've seen it happen and yeah...it sucks. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I think Edward is dealing with things better than anyone would, given the situation. I think he's still holding back a lot, but maybe talking with Carlisle will help more.
Bella's birthday was perfect for her and Edward. :)
Renee and Phil....wow. What a pair. I can understand that Renee is upset about her daughter hurting, but not listening to Bella is something I can't understand. I had hoped that maybe Renee would come to understand Bella a little bit, but after this chapter, I kind of doubt she will....well, anytime soon, anyway.

When I read the parts about things that happened before New Moon, I realize how much in-canon they are. It's true - Bella WAS already depressed and damaged years before she even met Edward. It gives me chills.
It makes me think - if Jacob didn't revealed his ability to shape-shift to Charlie (in canon), would Bella really mind so much that she wasn't going to ever see him again?

Great chapter!
I think that Bella is making good progress. It's slow, but at least it's something.
Edward did really well in couple's therapy. I thought he would have been a little closed off-due to his private nature-but he did really well, speaking about things that needed to be said. All in all, I think things went very well. :)
I can't wait to see what will happen next!
