Very well-written and very affecting little story. I felt you handled the subject matter of the grief, the futility of war, the comradeship of the men, all very well. I also really appreciate your content notices to readers at the beginning. That is a courtesy that is too often neglected. Very nicely done, all around.

Author's Response:

Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooo much for your review! Do you know you're the first person to review this story? It means a lot of me to know that someone is enjoying my work. War has always been a sensitive subject for me. I'm originally from New Zealand and, like many New Zealanders (and Australians), I'm fiercely proud of the ANZAC boys. Although this story was about English soldiers, I wanted to capture the ANZAC spirit. I thought the warning was important. If an author writes something that could be disturbing or distressing to other people then they should warn their readers that the topic features in their story.

Thanks so much again,

jewelsbyers

P.S. If you're interested 'Bringing Him Home' is the multi-chapter sequel to this story. I'm still working on it, but it will be finished shortly.
