this had to be the best chapter yet. It was simply hilarious. I'm sitting in a room full of little kids right now watching Tom and Jerry, laughing into my hand.  They look at me funny when I start snickering.  I love the SING acronym - Go Bella and Samantha!

Author's Response:

So glad you liked it and it gave you some laughs - that makes me SO happy! :-)

Thanks for R&R!

Great Chapter! James was a good addition to the story. I also loved that Bella kicked his butt!

Author's Response:

Woohoo! Go Bella! Lol!

Thanks for R&R! :-)

I'm glad Bella fought James off, but he doesn't take "No" very well. I am definitely worried.

Author's Response:

Yeah, he's kind of a jerk, isn't he... hmmm...

Thanks for R&R! :-)

The new chapter is great :-) And that particular part of Miss Congeniality is my favorite

And I've started reading "Forgettable" myself. I really like it!

Author's Response:

Forgettable is great, isn't it? I think the next chap will be up soon.. *crossing fingers*

Thanks for the review - glad you liked the chapter! :-)

Screwing with the past has grave consequences. How Bella could not see this when she started all of this disaster is beyond me but then against Bella never had been a smart cookie and I’m afraid she’ll never be.

Author's Response:

Well, she's thought about the consequences, but really believes she's in the past for a reason - and saving Edward is the only one she can think of. Alice seems to support this theory, so she thinks she's on the right track.

Uh oh!

James has the "EC" hanky doesn't he??!

I love this story, it is so clever.. can't wait for more!!!

Author's Response:

Hmmm... 'fraid so... :-)

Thanks for reading!

I love how you're tying everything in with canon.  James meeting Bella and Alice as a human... which likely triggers his strong desire as a vamp for each of them and ultimately is responsible for Alice being turned.  And, I very much loved how you brought Carlisle & Edward closer.  I must admit thought, that I'm terrified that Alice has caught the flu.  And, even if she hasn't, how does she get back to present day and Jasper??  I'm not certain of the time - is Edward Sr coming down with the flu now, too?  So much to worry about, lol!

Thanks for writing!  This update is definitely one of the highlights of my Fridays ;)

Author's Response:

The story's nearing the end of May, 1918... the second wave of the Spanish Influenza hits Chicago in the fall... that's why Bella wants to get Edward out of the city before the summer's out.

So no, Edward Sr. isn't sick yet... as for Alice... what's happening with her will be explained in the next chapter.

Thanks for R&R! :-) So glad you're still enjoying the story!

I love this fic and thought of it during eclipse at the proposal and about cried. I love that your readers have a clear knowledge of THAT Edward.
As for this chapter loved it. Go bella. But james still has the handkerchief right? Hmmmm...

Author's Response:

A couple of people have mentioned that scene reminded them of Beyond Time... that is so incredibly sweet and flattering! :-) Thank you!

And yes... he still has the handkerchief... ;-)

James was quite a sleaze even as a human. Good thing Bella knew how to defend herself! I love how she taught Samantha & put the men in their place!

I was shocked that Bella was ready to kill James.

Now the big question is, what is going on w/ Alice?

Author's Response:

Well, Bella kind of snapped a little... everything just kind of hit at once - memories of vampire James, combined by his attack on her... and she lost it for a second. Good thing Alice was there to stop her.

As for what's happening with Alice... that will be explained in the next chapter.

Thanks for R&R! :-)

You're already driving me crazy with all this suspense - and now you throw James into the mix?  Geez.  And he's human, so that's almost worse.  Especially since Alice is Not Crazy... as in, not in the Chicago Orphan Asylum, I'm thinking.

Author's Response:

The orphan asylum is just an orphanage... "asylum" is just another word for "institution" used at the time. 1918 Alice would have been in a "insane asylum", or mental institution - and she's in Biloxi, Mississippi at this time.

Sorry I'm driving YOU crazy! LoL! :-)

Thanks for R&R!

Holy Guacamoly!!!!! James!

That was a good one. I thought Carlisle would turn up and be Bella's dance partner, but James!!! That was bloody awesome! Now it's gonna get REALLY interesting. :D

I was thinking about this story a few days ago and it popped into my head that maybe Alice saw her "past self" die/turned??? Maybe she was seeing that past as it happened??? Something along those lines???

Anyways, just a thought <winks, walks away whistling, hands behind back>

Author's Response:

Mmmm.... I just made some guacamole last night and it's soooo good! Lol!

Interesting thought about Alice... we shall see... :-)

Glad you enjoyed the chap - Thanks for R&R!

oh and i also want to say that maybe edward and alice are destined to be turned anyway. But sadly it could be by other not so nice vamps if she isnt careful! even herself included as she was eventually turned in the future (well SM's future) and edward may meant to get  spanish influenza so she better be careful she doesnt move and he dies ANYWAY! but you would never do that ending to us.. surely??!

Author's Response:

Oh, destiny... that's a bear, isn't it? Can Bella really change anything, or is it all just destined to happen the way it did? What part does free will play in fate? Hmmmm...

How's that for saying a lot, but not really giving you any answers? Lol! :-)

Thanks for reading!

Reviewer: This Girl loves to Talk (Signed) · Date: June 26, 2010 12:31 PM · On: Chapter 18: Of Chocolate Syrup and Charity Balls

does the fact the fundraising is for an asylum mean anything?? hmmm

Author's Response:

I'll clarify that in the next chapter... asylum is just another word for institution. It's just not really used anymore. the Orphan Asylum is just an orphanage, for children without parents, and it's in Chicago... Alice would be in an asylum for mental illness... most likely called a lunatic asylum or an insane asylum at the time... and she's in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Good thinking, though...

Oh, you are awesome.  This is an incredible twist!  Brilliantly done!

I am really enjoying the way youa re weaving the future into the past.  The mocha?  Brilliant.  The whole hickey scene was great.  I love how Edward reacted to Bella when she said that it happens.  They are so adorable together.

Great chapter!!!

Author's Response:

Awww... thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter... and are liking the B/E interaction.

Thanks for R&R! :-)

Oh my God!  What a great way to end the chapter!!!!  My husband was worried because I screamed...

I just found this story last night, and kept reading until I just finished it (with a 4-hour sleep break).  What an AMAZING story!  I love the history, and the circumstances have completely drawn me in.  Great job on your research - I love that Bella is participating in the suffrage movement!

Your writing is excellent, the characters are believable and I am really invested in them.  Bella's thoughts have me cracking up sometimes... I am so glad you've placed Alice in the past to help Bella, and Carlisle is wonderful (even though I'm convinced he has a thing for Bella).  Edward is adorable, sweet, sexy as hell, gah!!!!

You are doing a wonderful job with this story, and I can't wait to read more!  It is definitely going to the top of my rec list!!!

Author's Response:

Lol! You sound like me when I'm reading FF... I laugh and gasp and my husband thinks I'm crazy!

So glad you're enjoying the story so far - thanks so much for R&R! :-)
