I have been reading this story since early on, and this is my first time reviewing. I just had to let you know how beautiful this chapter was to me. I read it with tears streaming down my face and had to stop a couple of times to compose myself.
My uncle was taken by ALS several years ago and his story mirrors Charlie's in many ways. He was a retired state trooper with one grown daughter, though he and my aunt were married until the end. I remember how vibrant he was even as the disease left him confined to a chair and made talking difficult. He was in his fifties when he passed, and had 2 young grandchildren. He passed just before fathers day, and his grandkids sent their cards up to him in heaven on balloon strings.

So... I've been obsessively reading these 26 chapters to get caught up and I have to say this chapter and the last chapter has had me continuously bawling my eyes out. oh my god it was painful to read. but kinda a good painful, if that makes sense.
This story has been wonderful to read. And so sad! I'm usually not the type to go on a crying jag when I read/ watch something sad but this story has obviously changed that. I love Nurse Edward. I myself am currently in nursing school, and if I can be half as amazing as he is as a nurse, than I'll be happy. That being said I understand and agree with his decision to be un-romantically involved with Bella while her father was his patient, but I still think he could have given her a kiss or two... ya know? lol.
cannot wait for the next chapter. I'm sure grieving/ trying to cope Bella is going to be painful to read but I'm sure Edward will be there for her, the little trooper. until next time!

Author's Response: It does make sense. And yes, I'm aware that Edward is holding back a little too much but he does have the best intentions where Bella is concerned. You will be an amazing nurse, believe in yourself. To me, the nurses are the unsung heroes of the medical world so good for you!

I can't imagine the strength and the courage it must have taken to actually go through this, then again to share this story with us. I am a mess right now from reading this. I cried all the way through this and now I have a snotty nose and puffy eyes. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of work with us. I can't fathom what it must have been like to witness your strong giant like father go through that. I hope that you too had your own Edward to help you with that. I have said this before but I will say it again, you AMAZE me! Now if you'll excuse me, I have someone I need to go hug. Thank you again for this beautiful and touching piece of work!

:( RIP Charlie... what an amazing man, who as Billy pointed out, was clinging to life because of his love for his daughter. It must have been hard for Bella to tell him, to manage to convey how much she loves her Dad but that it was ok for him to let go and move onto the other side.
The light hearted conversation with Alice, where she told Bella that everybody could see that she & Edward shared something special... :) She's going to need so much support now that Charlie's gone. Not just in planning the funeral, sorting out finances etc, but emotionally in particular.
Author's Response: I can remember as we waited as my dad was letting go and having the most normal conversations. It was strange but despite the gravity of a situation like that, normal thoughts still go through your head. Bella has a true support system and they will hold her up most definitely. Beautiful. (I needed that tissue.) Thank you...by the way..for giving a voice to my thoughts. I went through something similar with my Grandpa, only it was cancer, and I reacted pretty close to your Bella.

I lost my dad to lung cancer in July of 1998. I too was right beside his bed watching and waiting. It is such a hard, hard thing. You have handled it beautifully. Thank you.

This has been one of my favorite fanfictions ever. My grandmother passed away simular to this, just without the cancer. I have one question, will you make more chapters, or just a few with an epiloge?

That was so well written. It was so descriptive and you really touched on how things are when you get to those last few moments. It really took me back to before my grandfather passsed. Bella is so fortunate to have so many people who care for her and will be supportive of her during such a difficult time. The grieving process is really just beginning for her.

I love your story, but let me tell you why. I am going through something similar at the moment, and I find it a reflief that someone else out there understands. I wish I could be more eloquent in my writing, or express more freely how this story effects me , but I think you get without me saying it. The way you write is beautiful and cohesive. I cry everytime, in the right parts of course lol.
