What erks you in fandom???

What about Admiral Fic? Captain Fic?

This is probably going to make me sound shallow but if an author continually injects their own likes into the story I stop reading. Why can't you just say that Bella was listening to music instead of dating the story and adding a playlist right in the middle of a story that doesn't add anything. I don't care if the lyrics actually tie in with the story but I don't care that when Bella walks into a club and a Lil' Wayne song is playing.

That's not shallow at all, and I mean that. I've never really understood why an author would choose to use a song that doesn't do anything for their story but show how recent it is.

I mean, I listen to music while I'm writing, and sometimes, those songs help me write, but it isn't unless I think the story could actually benefit from people reading the lyrics and then listening to the song. And unless it's Edward playing the songs when they go to a club, then I don't see the point of, um, pointing it out.

But I completely agree with you.

What's worse: the most recent "sexy" song starts playing and Bella and her BFFs forever and ever start doing their little sexy dance like if they were in the middle of a videoclip (but, oh, don't get them wrong, they're just having fun; it's not like they're trying to seduce anyone on purpose... yeah, right!) while the 3 guys- the usual suspects- are there looking at them with their tongues hanging. You know a teenager (or someone very close to that age) is writing that because no adult believes that videoclips come true. I reckon that many authors have a worrying addiction to MTV.

And then in the same chapter or another one in the story the moment of truth arrives: it's time for Edward to dance with Bella while the sweetest (or the "hottest") song the author knows is playing and, oh joy!, you get to read the whole lyrics. The author is so thoughtful he s/he (usually she) saves you the time of googling them!

Well, I guess that if we have to call you shallow you'll have to call me bitch. I just simply can't stand fics where the author is shoving their favourite music down my throat. Even the songs I like, I don't want to see them in a fic. Most likely I will either know the lyrics by heart and be able to sing the song in my mind while I read or be able to google them. Post your music list on your profile, heck even post it as an AN, but don't make me have to go through it in the story!

Anyway, have you realized that the most common answer to where is fic X in the "Find a fic" forum lately is "it was pulled"? I think in the first 5 pages there could be around 20 or 30 answers like that. WTF?

Ok people, I know it's hard to write summaries, but really, I'm NEVER reading a story that has "blah blah blah" in it's summary! NEVER! And I used to think people saying they suck at summaries was bad...

Someone actually put that in a summary? Wow, and I thought it was bad that I'm up front on my profile saying I can't write one worth crap, but I still try.

Something else that bothers me is how similar all the summaries sound now. I try to make mine sound different, but I guess people figure that I pattern works for a reason.

Yeah, I just saw a story where the author wrote something like this in the summary: Bella is mistreated by Charlie and is saved by Edward and blablabla, I suck at summaries....

That is such a disgrace to everyone who actually tries to come up with something for their story. I mean, why even bother?

It's awful if you suck at summaries, but there's a reason why you should at least bounce some ideas off people who can help you. Right?

Wow. I HATE summaries. Like everyone it seems, I also suck at them. However, isn't anything better than that? I mean really, anything. It might not have the wow factor that some have but at least it's not turning everyone off. If you can't string together 2 or 3 sentences to describe a story that you wrote yourself then what hope is there that you can write a coherent multi-chaptered story?
The One Who Got Away
Bella met Edward just before their senior year and fell madly in love. But when life after high school pulls them apart can Bella move on and find love again? Or will she always be in love with the one who got away?

What makes it worse is sometimes, these people sound so pathetic that readers actually read their stories. I tend to pass them over.

Nothing is worth having to muddle through that kind of drivel to get to a good story.

RIGHT! And I don't even have to say that I haven't read even the first word of this story. Why would I read a story when the author rights blablabla on their summary? Will it be like that seinfeld episode, where we never get to know what actually happens in the story George's girlfriend is telling? :LOL1:
